I like how people are worried about how you dug this out. When excavators flattened the land their home sits upon. Excavators dug the lands for roads to their schools, land for your parks, fields for your food. Virtually the entire land has been turned over for progress. Let the man remove a relic anyway he chooses, it can then be cherished instead of lost under your garage floor that was poured with resources harvested from the soil with an excavator. Do not condemn this person for he is doing our ancestors a great service.

I watched it done on a house I knew someone was building. In the back corner, he dug down about 4 feet, and there was river rock that a camp fire was there at one time. No river close. The rocks were all blackened. I stopped him and showed him but did no good. After the house was done, the house had nothing but problems. Every thing you could think of was happening to the builder’s. Glad I was working on another job. The couple that bought the house swear it up and down it was haunted. They moved within six months and divorced within eight. The bugs cockroaches spiders come out of the woodwork they were everywhere.

While I agree I don’t think its an excuse to not minimize further damage to the artifacts. However, this person clearly had an appreciation for the artifacts and will make sure they are taken care of once removed, and without their love of the hobby the artifacts may have never been found before being completely destroyed. If it were me I wouldn’t be using metal to dig it out, but it’s much better to have them recovered and possibly scratched than to be lost forever.

The people crying about damaging the artifact are nieve. It looks to be made out of some type of granite or a similar metamorphic rock, which can't be scratched by steel unless you really put some effort into scratching it.

It is crazy how they enter comments in clumps, usually all nitpicking the same thing....and I find it very strange that the greater portion of these "viewers" don't even know what type of artifact you've discovered. I'm sure about that. I know people who have collected arrowheads all along the susquehanna River since the 1950's. But not allowed to keep. I don't think so. An Indian burial ground would be a huge mistake.
