    I like to think of this software as a boutique plugin.
    People unfamiliar with sound design will have a great time making stuff they never thought of while veterans may find some novelty with quick access to FX type sounds.
    No, It’s not gonna recreate that noisia bass for you, lazy bum!

    Phase Plant and Synplant are the only plant-based synths you need. :P

    I would love to see you dropping multiple samples from this into phaseplant to start layering up the chaos. Apart from building up a library of subtle variations on one shots, that seems to be where I find it most appealing so far. At least as far as where I'm imagining it. Proof will be in the pudding.

      I suppose I could but it would need to be tonal. Would likely be granular food

    A randomized Phase Plant patch offers this level of variety, if not more--at least to my ears. That’s not a complaint against Synplant. This synth is cool and if it was ever on sale for

      one reason it's able to do what it does is because there are no discrete controls
      this means there are no switches, no menu options, no loading modules
      the entire set of controls in synplant have smooth values between zero and 100%
      this makes exploring the sonic potential far easier for a machine learning algorithm than it would be if it had to check various states and combinations

    My main opinion about synplant is: I don't see any reason whatsoever for putting all those functions into a GUI the size of a pack of cigarettes. A Phase-Plant-sized GUI could show EVERYTHING at the same time, without ever having to switch views.

      @@MFKittenyea, they could keep the current view as factory default setting and a BIG view as optional chooseable default setting. I doubt they'll ever do it though, as synplant is 14 years old and nobody except me seems to give a F*** about the window being that tiny, haha!

    I demoed it but didn't like the results. It's very impressive on a conceptual level, but I wasn't wowed by any of the actual sounds it produces. Sounds are twisty but somehow flat, and you often hear the reproduction system fighting against itself in a zippy-sounding way.
    I also felt like the AI was getting in the way when it should be making things easier. Like you, I enjoy spending a few minutes setting up the parameters of a system in Phase Plant to create a big variety of semi-randomised sounds. It's quick, and I get lots of sounds I genuinely love. Conversely, Synplant 2 feels like a struggle to pull out anything genuinely worthwhile, and once you're there the AI works against you extrapolating from that point. The further you go with any sound, the more Synplanty it gets. This app does not want me to design sounds.
    And it's not just Phase Plant. I have a bunch of more traditional synths that I like because I can design sounds quickly, in a way that feels completely under my direction. I don't understand how so many people can claim Synplant is superior or "the future" if it's not faster or better than that. It's a solution in search of a problem.

    I’ve played with this for about two weeks now and coming from Logic alchemy I would say, If you need anything to re-create, your sound, 100%, then go for some additive re-synthesis software

    Its two oscillators FMing each other. This can be done easily in something like reaktor blocks or any other modular environment.
    In general I like simple plugins that fokus on one thing (like kick2 for example). But for 150$ there needs to be a bit more going on under the hood imo.

  • @TonyThomas10000
    @TonyThomas10000 8 місяців тому +1

    Maybe for $39. Not for $150! I just bought the Halion 7 crossgrade with 8 operator FM for $100 more than that!

  • @gutterg0d
    @gutterg0d 8 місяців тому +1

    It is a great tool, but much too expensive for what it is. I'm on the trial, and I don't think it's overhyped at all. But I'm not paying $150 for a simple synth with somewhat controlled randomization, when I can just wait and get phase plant or whatnot for $99 instead.

    The AI thing is definitely revolutionary, but it would be way more useful if it was paired with a better synth engine with a few more operators and some wavetable capabilities

      It’s a lot of variables to toss into an ai. There’s also other software on the internet that recreates sounds. I think this is pretty convenient for how fast it works though

  • @krazywabbit

    Trying the three week trial. Initial thoughts. Not a fan of dropping samples in. The ability to record line in audio would be a better UE. For something being AI, there still feels like a lot of human work (dropping samples in vs recording and go, post manipulation of sounds into something you could use in a mix) just seems if you are going to pay for AI, it should do the work. At this point, it feels like sound fx design vs sound design. I do like the idea of messing around to come up with new sounds yet if you just want fx, is $149 worth that and then if you are doing sound design, the AI component feels lost as the human has to then come in to put the finishing touches. Good review.

    The problem is you basically put in multiple sounds. How the heck should it recreate this?
    Even tho you think its "one neurobass" its actually 5 different sounds in your case. Trim it down and it works well better.

    • @Alckemy
      @Alckemy  8 місяців тому +1

      It only takes one part of the sample or a single phrase. I mentioned throwing drums in it too which it didn’t do a great job of recreating either. It’s great for unpredictability, but it’s not good at recreating sounds imo

    • @frantsel5711

      Like with any new tool we need to learn how to use it first. Its very good for recreating waveforms but not complex movements. For example: ua-cam.com/video/Hd0KYxotzv8/v-deo.htmlsi=dSDD53_NCBI5OleS&t=263
      Throwingin in a snare, which is a damn complex sound must result in failure... @@Alckemy

      Brother a snare, when I design them is a sine wave and white noise. That’s not a complex sound

    • @frantsel5711
      @frantsel5711 7 місяців тому

      Yes its a sinewave with noise and pitch modulation. But it seems that this synth is more for recreating waveforms. Check out the video ive send you. It does the job pretty well. But a snare is actually a moving sound or you could say contains of many "soundparts". Again, what synplant can do really well is recreating waveforms.@@Alckemy
