Hello Everyone! I am pinning this comment in response to a recent comment about a unit that did not work as the customer expected. I don't make any money from purchases of this sharpener, so what I say is simply my opinion. It's been two years since I produced this video review and this sharpener is still the best battery operated sharpener I have for making very long points for regular as well as large diameter pencils. I keep it right next to me on the printer/camera table. As with anything that is battery operated, batteries can and do go bad. Fortunately, the type of battery it uses is readily available online. In fact, you can even buy a higher capacity rated battery and it works great. Another thing to note is that you must use this sharpener on battery only. Plug it in only to charge, not to run. Also, keep in mind that if they don't say you get an adapter, you'll need your own USB adapter to plug into an outlet or simply plug it into any available USB charging port.
Really like the AFMAT performance. When sharpener quit working I emailed AFMAT re: replacing the battery. Was advised didn't know if a new battery would work and recommended I buy a new pencil sharpener. Thought very poor business ethics especially since made where battery is replaceable. Will search to see where I can buy a replacement battery. Thought weird too that AFMAT doesn't sell the replacement batteries. Have had this sharpener 10 months.
This is still my favorite electric. Once you charge the battery, immediately unplug it. Don't leave it plugged in. My original battery still going strong. I did replace in a different sharpener that uses the same battery and found you can buy them online easily. Amazon even sells them. They are commonly used rechargeable batteries. You can even buy higher capacity as I have so they hold charge longer.
I wish I had seen your review before getting mine. I didn't see that the cord is stored in the unit. Maybe they should show that on the box. Also, I was excited to sharpen my charcoal pencils and the whole tip on first one I tried broke right off. Now, I'm afraid to use it on my charcoal pencils.
@@marsbeads Yes Your’e absolutely right. I bought a Derwent and it gives any length point , sharp and you can remove the helical blade and clean it. I am Sure this will help the life of the whole unit. This one is small, light making it very portable. Thanks for you tip.
Have you ever had the sharpener just stop working? And if so, how’d you fix it? I’ve had this same sharpener for two years and it’s worked amazing, but then it suddenly stopped. No battery issues or stuck lead, it just went from working to not. I know this a review video and not a how-to, but I’m really frustrated and can’t find any resources to help.
No. Mine did die eventually, but then I took the battery out and replaced it with a different one of even higher capacity and charged. It came alive again. But I've since replaced using this one with one that's been on my desk now for a couple years and rarely needs charging (seems to work a long time on a single charge). Look for my video on JARLINK. I don't know if it is still available, or rebranded as many of these guys do. But I've been really happy with it.
Hey thanks for reply. Afmat have a new 2020 version that does 6 to 12mm pencils. I cant get them in the UK through amazon...do you know anywhere I can order one from?.
@@RixCanDoit damn! I would happily pay for someone's time and expenses in advance to get me one and ship it to me. Anyone in the US on here interested?
Clearly they used an all graphite pencil to get that 25mm nib haha. If this sharpener stands up to the test of time and abuse by none other than Rix then it might just be one of the very best.
Well, it's going to take time because I use several sharpeners at a time. Spreading the workload. LOL! I hope it can take the abuse, because right now this is one of the few that I like for electric.
Being an avid fountain pen collector your use of the term "nib" had me going, so I searched and searched thinking it must apply to pencils and I was wrong. Nope. The correct term is "point" for pencils. Also, replace those cheap Chinese fireworks with some high quality Japanese 18650s... UltraFire isn't just a creative name.
Busy busy. Won't do another until I'm done with this Lion drawing and that's slow going because I don't have much time to devote to it. This is why channels like this need viewer support, because of having to devote so much time to make a living leaving less time to video production. But I'm working on my next video during free time. Stay tuned!
go ahead & laugh.... took me a week to ' find' the charging cord, it had been so long since ii'd charged it (10/15/23). Mine did not come with a charger so ii found one & rubberbanded it to the base as a reminder...duh...
Yeah, that is funny. But not surprising. I don't know too many sharpeners that have the charging cable coiled inside the bottom compartment like this one does. Not a bad concept, but considering it (normally) comes with the charger that is not stored within, you still end up with something that isn't completely compact.
Hi, after seeing quite a few of your sharpener vids, wondering which one is now the best one? Is the Westcott heavy duty one still on your desk? I am in search and thinking of that one. I really like the idea of the vertical but just don't know if they are as long lasting. Any view on this?
I just purchased this sharpener. First, I was surprised that it does not look like the one in your video or in the photos online. I thought that was strange but not a deal-breaker. But after charging it for 6 hours the red light was still blinking. I unplugged it as directed to check if the sharpener had charged at all. But it did not work. I changed outlets and tried to charge the sharpener again but had the same result. I am very disappointed. The user manual gives minimal information and no troubleshooting suggestions. I am afraid I must return it for a refund. I had such high hopes for an electrical sharpener that really produces a long point. I cannot recommend this product. POTENTIAL BUYERS BEWARE.
It does sharpen to a point, just not to a point that will break off everytime you start to use it after sharpening. The point is perfect for detail work, for fine lines and writing. Anything more and you're not going to avoid breaking it off.
It looks like it used up a lot of the pencil, as colored pencils are expensive, losing so much of the pencil is completely undesirable. I’ll stick to my KUM Masterpiece hand sharpener.BTW put the screw🔩 back,
I got one and its trash, the battery dies in one week, I call the customer service and they told me I need to buy a new battery, WTF! like how "new product" and I still need to buy more stuff to make work!! pure trash! guys just keep your distance for the product.
Because the battery died does not make this sharpener trash. I use it all the time and it makes the longest point for all my pencils. With that said, if you only had it a week and the battery died, they should replace it. I am reaching out to the company with your comments to see what the deal is.

Terrible Chinese product. It broke after 5 uses all the while not sharpening at all. The tips stay blunt and the wood looks like it's been chewed on. Avoid avoid avoid!
That's unfortunate that you had an issue with this sharpener. Mine is still on my desk and I use it all the time. Just love it. The only thing is the battery died. So I just got a better one and replaced it and it just goes. As for having a 'blunt' tip, there is a turn dial at the back that allows you to change the tip from point to blunt. Perhaps you have it set to blunt. My sharpener makes super long points...and they are points! At any rate, contact AFMAT and just tell them your issue. They will replace it for you. If you contacted them and they tell you otherwise, just let me know and I'll get involved on your behalf. Rix
What did it not do? I use mine all the time. Hopefully you don't have it plugged in when trying to use. It must not be plugged in. And adapters are easy to get everywhere. Many people (like myself) have several sitting in a drawer. Or you can just plug it into your computer USB and charge it that way. This is still one of the best LONG POINT sharpeners I've come across, and I've reviewed many.
@@RixCanDoit I truly was hoping for the best with this thing. I didn’t think I wanted another electric eraser. But you were very convincing. So I bit the bullet for $32.00. Do you have to hold the pencils whilst sharpening?
For that model, I believe so. My latest video shows a good one where you do not need to.
Have this sharpener blade replacements?
That would be a question for the retailer. This video was uploaded a long time ago.
Hi Rix, Does it sharpen the 9XXB? Can you use that caliper and find out just how big that 9XXB core really is?
Yes it will sharpen the 9xxb. 8.33mm barrel size. ~5mm core.
Can you compare PS09 (Blue) and PSB06 (Black) models. I feel confused to make a decision which one I should buy?
This one. Of all my long point sharpeners this one is my favorite. I would also recommend buying a spare rechargeable battery for it.
RixCanDoit Thank you, and i just bought this one and it is amazing.
