- There was a real buzz when word got out that Kelly Slater was in Bali. He's the GOAT, the person from our sport that is most recognizable amongst non-surfers, so it's no surprise that all eyes were on him whenever he took to a lineup.
He surfed a lot during his time in Bali, timing his trip with some of the best Padang Padang sessions of the year, but also spending a fair amount of time in the water at Uluwatu and Keramas.

More like every surfer that's not in the top 20. And I'm being generous. He surfs differently now, its not about points for him anymore. His feel and wave IQ is probably still numero uno. I suppose it depends on your persepective.

His ability to be perfectly positioned on the wave is unreal. Amazing how he knows when that lip is gonna fall. He gets out in front of it then pulls back to the face. Really cool
Yeah, the guy knows how to read a wave better than anyone.
He makes Paddling look so easy, 2 strokes and he's in to a Wave.
Yeah and notice how he doesn’t mind riding the wave in close because paddling back out through that shit is nothing for him.

I’ve loved watching Kelly Slater surf for the past 25+ years. Never a surfer myself (baseball was my sport) I’ve lived just 40miles east of Cocoa Beach for 45yrs and remember seeing him surf before he turned pro. My wife, daughter and I just got back from the North Shore but unfortunately missed the competition by 2 days. He is the G.O.A.T. In surfing! Godspeed Kelly! Thank you for the years of excitement from one of your long time fans!

Of course by G.O.A.T., for those not familiar with the term it stands for Greatest Of All Time!. To do what he does, despite his past injuries makes him stand out that much more. And to top it off he seems like a humble, down-to-earth dude which makes he a perfect role model for youth of today. I sure as hell wouldn’t have wasted my time leaving a message for a Prima Donna like we see in most all other sports today. God bless to all who read this.
@@son_of_a_gunny8871 blessings . I grew up in Osceola County too . Started surfing an MTB in the 80s . Nova Rd , 520 - still beautiful. I surfed , soccer , basketball WR. Cocoa expo. All my cousins got schollys to play fast pitch soft ball- I became a soldier 3 months after 9 11
I love hearing the wonderful sound of the Sea...Nothing better than feeling your waves to renew your energies for 2021.

We actually met Slater in Oahu (Haleiwa) back in 2018. There were a couple of us hanging out and trying to catch a wave or two. We breaked on the beach and I think he was just heading out. We couldnt believe it, the greatest to ever do it was right there. We just made small talk about the wave conditions and asked for a picture. He was really cool about it, its like if he didnt even act like the greatest, he just acted like a regular guy who was about to surf.
His down to earth attitude really stuck out. It was surreal to just see him out there like that, and that he talked to us mere mortals like we were just friends. All time great Kelly Slater!

Bc if ya can surf 1 ft on shore slop, you can read waves better than most surfers who grow up in world class breaks 🌊

His ability to be in the right place at the right time is unparalleled. Of course there are a lot of unbelievable surfers but only one Kelly Slater.
Bet ur ass baby. cocoa bch/Merritt island ppl are awesome. I know cause I'm one of them. My kid sister ran around with many of same ppl as Kelly. But whenever his name came up she would roll her eyes, laugh n say, he's a great surfer, but he's so full of himself. I can't listen to the guy for more then a few mins. I'm thinking that was 20yrs ago. It appears he has grown up alot. He does not come off that way to me on camera. Of course I didn't hang out with any of these ppl because my sister is 17yrs younger then me lol. Sometimes I hate that it seems the good lord gave all the "great genes' , looks, personality, money, well known men chasing her. No I'm not naming names lol. We are originally from west palm bch, and we try not to name drop down there. But here in cocoa bch/Merritt island, it's a different world. When someone makes it here it's a big deal. We have Kelly n carrot top ( not sure we want to claim Carrot top these days lol).

People like him and tony hawk are such inspiration for people out there. To be able to still rip it like both them do it the sport they love and still be able to compete like kelly slater does is just amazing. Always thought I would be like them active into my 80s if lived that long. But nope paralyzed by time was 40. But seeing these guys doing the stuff like this at same age of me just shows me I need to get off my ass and figure how to make it bk to the beach somehow even with out use of my legs anymore

His edge is that he can surf anything because he grew up in Florida and made small wave surfing an art form that transferred to bigger better waves nicely.
Notice how he never wastes time getting into position and knows where he is going before the wave unfolds before him. He had no choice in Florida but to be quick.
Amazing timing and vision.

thats the best part of the horizon. where the water meets the sky. the session at number six is amazingly beautiful. i cant think of anything that is more in tune with nature than to be out there like that. i want to learn so bad! im humbly jealous and in awe of all people that can surf. watching him surf and the others I've seen thus far always leaves me at a genuine loss for words. i seriously love just watching the waves, i dream of the day that I'd actually be able to ride one. and he's been doing it his whole life. one day...
