- Sometimes the rarity of something can add a sense of value to it - very true of a good day at Padang Padang.
Not that this place needs any value adding.
A relatively easy drop into a perfect pit is pretty much any surfers dream scenario, and there were plenty of those yesterday. The crowd wasn't even as bad as you'd expect for such ideal, barreling conditions.
This hasn't been the biggest swell we've had, but it's hanging in like a champ. It's day three as I write this and there's still plenty of overhead action at the exposed breaks.
The forecast is for a slight drop in size for tomorrow, so there should be waves all over the place 🤙

Surf/surfing aside, this video is shot from a sensible distance so you really can see the setup. Too many videos are filmed too close to the action.

Was there back in 1993. 6 of us living in the beach shack with the occasional passerby, but most were drawn to Uluwatu. Bit busier now I see.

I always wondered what the general vibe of this place was; beach area, shoreline, lineup, etc., you've captured it all perfectly! (I guess it helped to have such great waves at the time too :) )

Early 80s had Padang and every other break to ourselves all day every day...Times have changed..Back then Bali boys to scared to surf,,Demons and all that..More waves for us

I wonder how long those guys were paddling for thirty seconds into the vid. Getting stuck in a current is unexpecting, happened to me last week, right by a shelf too, it sucks and kinda scary. You gotta go with it in the end.

Paddling out in the impact zone is gonna get you fin gashed. Why don't people take a slightly wider line off the shoulder?
As a beginner would it be correct to see a wave like this closing out to the left, so the paddle out should be directed to the left of the close out and once out back paddle over to the right? Cheers if anyone could help, most appreciated

There's usually a few in there that you can buy from.

That is the channel, they would have been better off 20 meters to the left or right from where they were.
@@surfersofbali I cruised out the channel on this day. Met a guy trying to go in, frantically paddling and going nowhere. I told him just like you said, sent him over across the channel where the surf school hangs out. Hard to believe someone would go try to surf Padang but not have the Ocean sense to know about channels and currents.

Quite a few of them will sell the shots to whoever wants them.

Hey, guys at SOB, next time can you include a vid with a complete walkthrough of how to get to those stairs that are featured at 1:57? These look like a fairly new set of stairs, is the entrance to them on the Blue Heaven side of the bridge? Previously, the only way to the beach at Padang was through the narrow chasm in the cave - ultra crowded, rather inconvenient entrance. The wave doesn't look too crowded at all, by the way, especially keeping in mind the time of day when this was filmed
The entrance is down a narrow road on the other side of the bridge from Blue Heaven. But it's a fairly long walk to the channel from here if you want to surf Padang Padang. Not a bad option for Impossibles though.
@@surfersofbali So the way to get to those stairs is through the main old Padang stairs across the road from the parking lot (next to Suarga) via all of the taxi drivers and annoying street hagglers? If so, that's a downer... I wish every Bali beach had it's own tucked away cozy nice entrance like the relatively new road to Dreamland via El Cabron, where the parking is free of charge from cheap impostors and your experience of parking, getting prepared to get to the water and overall pre and apres surf experience is not tainted by undesirable encounters with various filthy characters. Hopefully, eventually all of the main beach entrances in the Bukit will get cleaned up like it got cleaned up in Berawa

Easiest in the world. Just sit on your board and the rip current takes you out, dry hair and all. Unfortunately, once you get there, you might discover you don't belong.
