Hello everybody. In this video I spend a night in the woods and try out a new stove. The main reason why I wanted to get a stove like this is because of the fire ban we have here in Norway all summer. I have been missing the feeling of a live fire when doing summer camping. I have no plans to turn the channel into a review channel but I will do this kind of videos from time to time if I get my hands on gear that I think might improve the outdoor experience. Take care and enjoy the world - Martin
I really like your videos. A review now and then is good, I think. Reviewing equipment all the time is a little too commercial, I think. So, I'm glad to hear you say that you will not do a lot of equipment review videos. Thank you, sir. I've been admiring the pants you're wearing. They look very durable. What kind are they?
This is by far the best review of the Solo Titan I've been able to find. I was especially interested in seeing someone cooking on the stove as I was worried that heat control would be a problem. I'm relieved to see that that issue can be overcome. Thanks!
I have the smallest version of the Solo Stove, and I've found the best way to use it is to let the fuel burn down to a bed of coals, then start cooking. Great video!
@@NorwegianWoods I have the Campfire to use here at home on my porch and the Lite for backpacking. The campfire is about the size of a gallon paint can. The lite is the size of a "larger" tomato can. Yes, they burn very hot! My suggestion is to roast the sausages on sticks. FYI, the lite is perfect to use with an alcohol stove as well.
the air flowing into through the bottom holes keeps the outside of the stove cool. I have a smaller version and have used it dozens of times camping in Eastern Canada. Excellent product.
Finally!! You sir are the first one on youtube I've seen not consistently cramming small twigs on these type of stoves then complaining how the fire easily dies out.
Thank you for stopping by. I think the stove worked really good. This might change when the weather get wetter though. Time will tell. I think you are absolutely right about giving the flame some room and air to live inside that thing :) - Martin
Thanks Martin Was up in the Canadian Shield this week . Three fires were going in the distance on all sides of us. Pretty smokey at times. Lots of helicopters. They say the lightning strikes started them. Have a great summer !
I like wood backpacking stoves. I use an Emberlit titanium Fire Ant and carry it as a backup on long distance hikes. It folds down flat for easy packing and weighs next to nothing. The Solo is a more efficient using gasification. The only downside to any wood stove is soot buildup on your pots. No matter how hard you try you can plan on getting your hands dirty cooking with these. Having a good tote bag for your pot and stove limits soot getting everywhere including inside your pack. Great review. Thanks for sharing.
That was a great learning experience for us to watch you pit your skills against a new stove. I liked the way you demonstrated its cooking capabilities using a variety of menus and beverage.
I was procrastinating on whether to purchase the Titan stove and pot, but after watching your video I placed an order for one along with the windscreen! Congrats on your new job and look forward to seeing more of your excellent videos Martin! Peace from Vancouver, B.C. :-)
Hands down the most beautifully filmed video demonstrating a wood burning camp stove on UA-cam. I ordered the “Campfire” version of this stove (next larger size) to use as a campfire due to the same safety concerns and easier clean up. I will probably cook over it as well.
Love that stove. I have one like it but not the same exact one. The way I regulate the heat is by letting the large chunks of wood burn down into coals for cooking with a lower heat, and using the flame when needing a higher heat like boiling water.. That is about the only way I know of to do it. What a beautiful place for an overnight!
Hello Dawn. Nice of you to stop by my video. I hope you are doing great. What you say here makes a lot of sense. There are a lot of different kind of stoves like this and this is my first experience with any of them. It was a really nice place for sure. I will probably go back there many times in the future. It is not far away from where I live :) - Martin
Glad I could help. These stoves really are great. They can keep you warm when needed too and sure use a lot less wood and burn a lot less calories :) Take care!
Only just come across your channel via this video and wish I had earlier. You have some fantastic scenery (and we all get biting insects so that's of no importance!) and I really enjoyed the pace of your film. Thank you for sharing it with us.
This is an outstanding video. Nice stove and a good demonstration on the stoves capabilities. I have a Firebox 5 inch folding stove that I use. One thing I think you will really like with these small wood stoves is in the winter they can give a lot of heat not only for cooking but for warmth. The best part is they don't use a lot of fuel as you found out. The meals looked delicious and your camping spot was outstanding. Very successful trip. Thanks for sharing. Take care, Al
Thanks Al. I enjoyed the trip a lot. I have also got a Bushbox XL that I will try out in a video soon. That one looks very similar to the Firebox. I hope these two stoves will do the job in all seasons for years to come :) - Martin
Great idea adding a piece of butter to the oatmeal so I must try that next time and reg the stoves they definitely have their place for situations like you are in and like in the UK where live fires are not legal so a controlled small fire in a stove is much more discrete. Such a delightful and enjoyable video as always Martin so thank you for sharing ~Peace~
Thank you for stopping by Zed. I think stoves like this is a good solution in the summer time. I don't know anybody else that use these around here though. Glad you like the video :) - Martin
For the mosquitos, get citronella bands, mini candles, sprays, and you can also use alcohol based bpdy sprays like Axe. It screws up their receptors and is poisonous. Also, fully cooked sausages like kielbasa, bratwurst, or even hotdogs are great for travel meats. Also loved the onions and mushrooms you cooked. Hello Shane. Thanks for stopping by. I try to get out and make videos as often as I can. Norway has a lot to offer when it comes to different kinds of nature. I like the forests the most :) - Martin
Very smart move to get a pan with what looks like a copper bottom. With the concentrated flame it's vital to spread the heat. If you had an aluminium bottom pan it the center would be very hot and the corners barely cooking the food. I'd be very difficult. But this pan does the job amazingly well.
What a wonderful video. I had been shopping for a camp stove. This video helped me decide on a Solo Stove Titan, which I have now purchased. Thank you for the content!
brilliant video it's amazing how much you can do on a well engineered bit of kit worked well last a lifetime also beautifull spot you found could easily sit there for a few days great job
Thanks for stopping by. I think it goes a bit both ways. It is good for the safety of both people and the forests around here. On the other hand, I kind of love campfires :) - Martin
Thank you. I wish I could go out into the woods and cook over a fire... that would feel like a balm to my soul right now. Buried my mother only a couple of months ago... I am very happy to hear that my little trip gave you a brake from all the things that goes on in your life. Life is a fragile thing. We all just borrow it for a while. It is a good thing to try and fill it with nice people and nice experiences. I have found a lot of comfort in nature when things have been difficult for me. I wish you all the best my friend :) Thanks a lot for watching - Martin
Looks good; we use an Aprovecho style rocket stove with out teardrop camper (we are in our late 60s) but when we were backpackers I used to make an acceptable stove using a number ten can with "church key" holes punched around the top (open) and bottom (closed). A little sand in the bottom protected the soil from heat.
I have seen videos of stoves like that. They seems to work pretty good. This is my first go at other wood burning stoves than a regular campfire. I guess I will try out some DIY stoves in the future just for the fun of it :) Thanks a lot for watching and commenting - Martin
Wow That was a King Kong dinner you made there!!! And it looked delicious too... ...you're right about how food is just so much better out in the open! When we go camping I can get my girlfriend to eat stuff she would normally not at home and she loves it too. And we sleep like babies in the forest. Thanks
I am a solo car camper and use a butain stove...the backpacking stoves give me the hebejebes...lol...always look like they may blow over : ) but in my NEXT life I want to be a bushcrafter...Thank you so much for the adventure!
Hello Sheila. Nothing wrong with a butain stove. I use them from time to time also. I enjoy the company of live flames when I go solo camping. They are like a friend that never complains about anything as long as they get a little food from time to time :) Thanks for coming along - Martin
I have this stove. I like it a lot but easier to pack in my firebox stove. As for the solo I also found a knock off from the solo for $15. and also bought it. Obviously, the quality of construction is not that of the solo and I am afraid it will end up rusting out or burning out eventually but for $15.00 not a bad deal if some one needs more of a budget stove similar to the better quality Solo stove. great location and great ideas for meals on an overnighter. Don't know why I like watching cooking shows but I like watching these out door camp cooking shows even more. Great job!
There is a lot of different stoves like this around. This is the only one I have experience with so far and I like it a lot. I also like to watch cooking shows. I hope to make more cooking videos in the future :) Thanks for watching - Martin
Great little stove. Nice learn as you go video Martin. Meals looked delicious. I use a BioLite stove here in Michigan very similar concept wood gas stove with a TEG that charges phone, camera, or lights. I really like how that stove nests in the pot.
I liked the way this stove was demonstrated on this channel so this year a purchased the next larger model. I tend to use somewhat larger pots and pans when I camp.
Love your channel, we are from the Pacific Northwest, and we love everything outdoors. Your wilderness is beautiful! Thank you and keep posting content!
Great video and test & review of the Solo Stove! You are one good cook. The eggs, bacon, potato's looked delicious . The area that you were camping in was beautiful. Thanks for making another video!
I just bought the stove. Very nice video. :-) The idea behind putting the larger wood on the bottom is to have a slower but longer lasting fire. It's called a top-down fire, where the embers slowly digs down into the firewood. There's no trouble doing it the traditional way, however, if you want a big fire or if you want better control by putting the wood in piece by piece.
I like Norway and Sweden, cause the forrests are similar to what in Finland. Beautiful clean nature. Lots of animals and water. You have also those mountains. 🌻🌻🌻🌻
Very glad that I was able to watch your video, we also got a burning band in Washington and so camp fires is not aloud. It's a great idea to use one of those portable wood stove. I just went on line to order one. Maybe some day we could visit your beautiful country.
Thanks for the videos man, I've subscribed and am now going over your previous ones. Such a relaxed, no nonsense approach, I love it! Looking forward to seeing more from your amazing country.
Great idea for the upside down fire in the Solo - I haven't seen anyone try that! 🔥 You are a wonderful ambassador to Norway, and showcase it's beauty so well 😊
Awesome, Martin! Can't wait to see more ❤ We also have fire restrictions here in Australia during summer, so I think this can be a safe comprise, without resorting to a dreaded gas stove. A girl needs her fire! 😊
I remember seeing a few bushfires and a lot of talk about fire hazards when I was traveling in Australia a few years back. You live in a very big and beautiful country :)
Hey Martin, very nice video, thanks for sharing. I bought the smaller Solo Stove and pot last year but have not used it yet. Looking forward to your next video!
Thanks a lot for stopping by. I am in the process of testing out a few new pieces of equipment. I do not think this stove is used by many people around here. It was really good on this first trip. Most people around here bring a butane stove or just make a small campfire. I think it is interesting to watch videos from around the world as well :) - Martin
Good video Martin, I'm now hungry after watching. Looks like a good setup. I have a cooker very similar that I've not tried out yet. It fits into a zebra billy can so will give it a try soon. Great cinematography. Look forward to future posts. Cheers👍
Great video and beautiful country! I love using my gasification stove I have many different models of stoves that I've made, be safe on your adventures respect nature and have FUN! I look forward to more of your videos- Maryland USA 🇺🇸
nice video. If you make overnight oats, and soak with cold water before bed, you won't need to cook it in the stove. If you want it warm, boil the water and immerse the bag in the water in the pot from cold. It will warm by conduction. - and no pot to clean after.
I've seen this stove before and was thinking about one for my kayak camping. This is a really nice demo of it and I am now convinced its the one to get! Thank you for the review!! :D
That stove looks like a good catch! The summers in Scandinavia look wonderful. (It gets very hot in New Zealand in summer, and the sun is harsh due to ozone depletion over the antarctic, so I prefer the autumn and spring).
Enjoyed your video. I guess mosquitoes are everywhere, darn things, we have horse flies in Oklahoma wow are their bites are painful, subscribed to your channel, keep them coming, thanks!
Thank you, good video. Nice little stove . You were making me hungry. I'm from Vermont in the USA. Love to go camping and eat outside. One of my most favorite things to do . however I'd have fish line in that water. And a couple of snares out.
I havnt even watched the vid yet, but IM so jealous! It's winter here in Australia, melb, we don't get snow, but its just been pouring last few days and windy as.
I personally prefer the original stove. The wood and fire one. A few rocks to hold the pots n pans. I would like a good stove, but I think I would prefer the box ones, you can fold up or open up and put some tinder and sticks in. Compact and easy
Hello my friend. I was in Melbourne a few years back. It was before the winter tough. I remember driving past a few ski centres when going across the Victorian alps on my way to Canberra. You guys get some decent summers up on the west coast though :) I did get a Bushbox XL from Bushcraft Essentials in the mail a few days back that I will test out in a video pretty soon. Looking forward to that :) Thanks for stopping by - Martin
Now I have that Beatles song Norwegian Wood in my head. :)
Lovely looking forest.

Hallo friend what brand is your hammock ?
PraiseTheZeus it looks like it is a Hennessy hammock. I have a slightly different model by the same manufacturer

Great porridge recipe, will try it soon, many thanks.
This was by far the BEST review & description of the Solostove. Had all the info I was looking for. Thank you!
They are B1G1 on the Solo Stove website
Excellent review and intelligent use of the stove and wood resources. thank you

THE WILD LIFE - An Outdoorsman's Blog , except boiling water, maybe?? Yes, looks a bit hot for cooking. Thanks for the tip
Yes, for boiling water you want those flames licking out at the top!
Thanks for stopping by. I think your strategy for cooking is a good one. The stove gets really hot when it goes full blast.

For the mosquitos, get citronella bands, mini candles, sprays, and you can also use alcohol based bpdy sprays like Axe. It screws up their receptors and is poisonous.

Thanks for sharing this. I also want to say that I think Norway is smart to have the ground fire ban. Wish they could do it in the amazon !!

Very glad that I was able to watch your video, we also got a burning band in Washington and so camp fires is not aloud. It's a great idea to use one of those portable wood stove. I just went on line to order one. Maybe some day we could visit your beautiful country.
I love the open water swimming to Martin. A great spot for it. The stove went well. Enjoyed the beaver sign. All the best. Mark
thanx for the oatmeal recipe!will try it soon.
You are very welcome. I guess there are many ways to do this, but this how I like it :)
Thanks for watching - Martin
it is beautiful environment i love this type of environment
So do I my friend :)
Thanks a lot for watching - Martin
Man, you really know how to eat out in the woods! Very enjoyable to watch you cook. Thanks for taking me along.
Hello from America..your woods are a lot like mine of Northern Minnesota and Wisconsin...awesome video.
Thanks Nigel. Glad you like the video :)

Great video Martin, thank you for the demonstration of the Solo Stove! Glad to see you're a three egg guy!
Thanks David. I was a three egg guy on this trip :)

I am really enjoying your videos, they are well done and I like your style.
Hello from North Carolina USA! Really nice video, I just bought the Solo Lite kit, looking forward to seeing more of your videos.
Hello my friend. Glad you like the video. Good luck with the stove. I like mine a lot so far :)

Thanks for the videos man, I've subscribed and am now going over your previous ones.
Such a relaxed, no nonsense approach, I love it!
Looking forward to seeing more from your amazing country.
Thank you for the kind words my friend. Glad you like my stuff :)
See you on the next one - Martin
Great idea for the upside down fire in the Solo - I haven't seen anyone try that! 🔥
You are a wonderful ambassador to Norway, and showcase it's beauty so well 😊
I will try out more way to use the stove on future trips. It seems pretty good so far.
Thanks for the kind words - Martin
Awesome, Martin! Can't wait to see more ❤
We also have fire restrictions here in Australia during summer, so I think this can be a safe comprise, without resorting to a dreaded gas stove. A girl needs her fire! 😊
I remember seeing a few bushfires and a lot of talk about fire hazards when I was traveling in Australia a few years back. You live in a very big and beautiful country :)
It is awesome here! I am actually a Kiwi, so watching your videos reminds me of home ❤ I am very cautious and safety conscious about fire here 😊
Hey Martin, very nice video, thanks for sharing.
I bought the smaller Solo Stove and pot last year but have not used it yet.
Looking forward to your next video!
Thanks for stopping by. I think you will like the stove when you get around to use it :)
I am also looking forward to my next video - Martin
Thanks Martin, very nice!
Thanks :)

Thanks for demo on this product
Interesting to see outdoors in your country and what equipment you use
Thanks a lot for stopping by. I am in the process of testing out a few new pieces of equipment. I do not think this stove is used by many people around here. It was really good on this first trip. Most people around here bring a butane stove or just make a small campfire. I think it is interesting to watch videos from around the world as well :)

Good video Martin, I'm now hungry after watching. Looks like a good setup. I have a cooker very similar that I've not tried out yet. It fits into a zebra billy can so will give it a try soon. Great cinematography. Look forward to future posts. Cheers👍
Thanks for stopping by. Glad you like the video. I hope you like your stove as much as I liked this one :)
More videos are coming soon - Martin
Great video and beautiful country! I love using my gasification stove I have many different models of stoves that I've made, be safe on your adventures respect nature and have FUN! I look forward to more of your videos- Maryland USA 🇺🇸
It looks like there are many ways to make these stoves. This one worked really good :)
Thanks a lot for watching my videos - Martin
nice video. If you make overnight oats, and soak with cold water before bed, you won't need to cook it in the stove. If you want it warm, boil the water and immerse the bag in the water in the pot from cold. It will warm by conduction. - and no pot to clean after.
Thanks for the tip. I will look into that :)

I have to camp in areas with no fire, and limited water. So I use this a lot.
Cool idea, I'll try this out! Oatmeal without cooking.
I've seen this stove before and was thinking about one for my kayak camping. This is a really nice demo of it and I am now convinced its the one to get! Thank you for the review!! :D
You are very welcome :)
Thanks for watching - Martin
That stove looks like a good catch! The summers in Scandinavia look wonderful. (It gets very hot in New Zealand in summer, and the sun is harsh due to ozone depletion over the antarctic, so I prefer the autumn and spring).
The stove looks like a good pice of kit. For some reason I feel more at home in the colder seasons as well :)
Thanks for watching - Martin
Great Video . I Really enjoy watching your Videos
Thanks a lot my friend :)

Enjoyed your video. I guess mosquitoes are everywhere, darn things, we have horse flies in Oklahoma wow are their bites are painful, subscribed to your channel, keep them coming, thanks!

Outstanding video amigo. Beautiful place. Thanks for sharing
You are very welcome :)
Thanks for watching - Martin
Thank you, good video. Nice little stove . You were making me hungry. I'm from Vermont in the USA. Love to go camping and eat outside. One of my most favorite things to do . however I'd have fish line in that water. And a couple of snares out.
Thank you for stopping by. I will do some fishing out there this summer. Snares are not allowed though...

Great video. That stove looks just like what I need. Fantastic looking breakfast also!
That looks like an insanely nicely made stove. Thanks for the vid, looked like a great time!
The stove seems to be really nice. I am looking forward to try it out in different weather conditions :)
Thanks for watching - Martin
Really enjoy your content, feels like I get to experience a bit of your Country and surrounding ones from the other side of the World. 👍🏼
Thanks a lot my friend. That is the magic of social media :)

You guys get some decent summers up on the west coast though :)
I did get a Bushbox XL from Bushcraft Essentials in the mail a few days back that I will test out in a video pretty soon. Looking forward to that :)
Thanks for stopping by - Martin
