  • In this video I go camping in the border area between Norway and Sweden. It was a really nice summer day and night. I was bringing a Solo Stove Titan for tis trip. This is the first time I use this kind of stove, and I think it worked out really good.
Here is a link to the stove I used: www.solostove....

Hello everybody. In this video I spend a night in the woods and try out a new stove. The main reason why I wanted to get a stove like this is because of the fire ban we have here in Norway all summer. I have been missing the feeling of a live fire when doing summer camping. I have no plans to turn the channel into a review channel but I will do this kind of videos from time to time if I get my hands on gear that I think might improve the outdoor experience.
Take care and enjoy the world - Martin

I really like your videos. A review now and then is good, I think. Reviewing equipment all the time is a little too commercial, I think. So, I'm glad to hear you say that you will not do a lot of equipment review videos. Thank you, sir. I've been admiring the pants you're wearing. They look very durable. What kind are they?

This is by far the best review of the Solo Titan I've been able to find. I was especially interested in seeing someone cooking on the stove as I was worried that heat control would be a problem. I'm relieved to see that that issue can be overcome. Thanks!

I have the smallest version of the Solo Stove, and I've found the best way to use it is to let the fuel burn down to a bed of coals, then start cooking. Great video!

@@NorwegianWoods I have the Campfire to use here at home on my porch and the Lite for backpacking. The campfire is about the size of a gallon paint can. The lite is the size of a "larger" tomato can. Yes, they burn very hot! My suggestion is to roast the sausages on sticks. FYI, the lite is perfect to use with an alcohol stove as well.

I like wood backpacking stoves. I use an Emberlit titanium Fire Ant and carry it as a backup on long distance hikes. It folds down flat for easy packing and weighs next to nothing. The Solo is a more efficient using gasification. The only downside to any wood stove is soot buildup on your pots. No matter how hard you try you can plan on getting your hands dirty cooking with these. Having a good tote bag for your pot and stove limits soot getting everywhere including inside your pack. Great review. Thanks for sharing.

  • @southpawbushcraft7522
    @southpawbushcraft7522 7 років тому +2

Love that stove. I have one like it but not the same exact one. The way I regulate the heat is by letting the large chunks of wood burn down into coals for cooking with a lower heat, and using the flame when needing a higher heat like boiling water.. That is about the only way I know of to do it. What a beautiful place for an overnight!

nice video. If you make overnight oats, and soak with cold water before bed, you won't need to cook it in the stove. If you want it warm, boil the water and immerse the bag in the water in the pot from cold. It will warm by conduction. - and no pot to clean after.

Very smart move to get a pan with what looks like a copper bottom. With the concentrated flame it's vital to spread the heat. If you had an aluminium bottom pan it the center would be very hot and the corners barely cooking the food. I'd be very difficult. But this pan does the job amazingly well.

Great idea adding a piece of butter to the oatmeal so I must try that next time and reg the stoves they definitely have their place for situations like you are in and like in the UK where live fires are not legal so a controlled small fire in a stove is much more discrete. So it's a professionally made wood gas stove. Not bad at all. Seems to work wonderfully. Good job!! You should try extra virgin olive oil rather than butter. It's lighter and easier to carry no to mention it's much, much healthier for you. You won't notice the difference.

For the mosquitos, get citronella bands, mini candles, sprays, and you can also use alcohol based bpdy sprays like Axe. It screws up their receptors and is poisonous.
Also, fully cooked sausages like kielbasa, bratwurst, or even hotdogs are great for travel meats. Also loved the onions and mushrooms you cooked. My wife is away for a bit, so I've been experimenting with raw ingredients. Onions and mushrooms just work with everything.

This is an outstanding video. Nice stove and a good demonstration on the stoves capabilities. I have a Firebox 5 inch folding stove that I use. One thing I think you will really like with these small wood stoves is in the winter they can give a lot of heat not only for cooking but for warmth. The best part is they don't use a lot of fuel as you found out. The meals looked delicious and your camping spot was outstanding. Very successful trip. Thanks for sharing. Take care, Al

I have this stove. I like it a lot but easier to pack in my firebox stove. As for the solo I also found a knock off from the solo for $15. and also bought it. Obviously, the quality of construction is not that of the solo and I am afraid it will end up rusting out or burning out eventually but for $15.00 not a bad deal if some one needs more of a budget stove similar to the better quality Solo stove. great location and great ideas for meals on an overnighter. Don't know why I like watching cooking shows but I like watching these out door camp cooking shows even more. Great job!

Martin, I enjoyed your video. The scenery was great, and I could smell the bacon all the way over here in Hillsborough, North Carolina, USA! My go to camp breakfasts are similar to yours. Oatmeal with brown sugar, maple syrup, and raisins added (sometimes soak the raisins in some spiced rum before hand). For eggs, I dice onions, green, red, and yellow peppers, ham into small 0.5-1 cm pieces (i actually keep these in sealed containers in the freezer to use whenever I am in the mood). i'll use olive oil or olive oil and butter because it is less likely to burn in a hot pan than just butter. Mushrooms have to be fresh! I'll get all these sauteing in the pan and add salt, pepper, allspice, cumin, paprika, cinnamon, once these are almost done I add 3 eggs scrambled( you can break them into a plastic bag, close it and squeeze it repeatedly to scramble(mix) the eggs without getting another pot dirty. Add to the pan with some grated cheese and stir until cooked to your liking. Plate and add very slight drizzle of maple syrup if you desire! Small dices thaw faster and cook faster in the pan. Try to keep sizes consistent for best results and more even cooking. You can dice and freeze items ahead of time, premix spices into one container, in order to save prep time at camp. Mushrooms slice and add fresh at camp. Try it at home to get the spices to your liking. Let me know if you try it out. Thanks for your work. Boyd

We also have fire restrictions here in Australia during summer, so I think this can be a safe comprise, without resorting to a dreaded gas stove. A girl needs her fire! 😊

Hands down the most beautifully filmed video demonstrating a wood burning camp stove on UA-cam. I ordered the “Campfire” version of this stove (next larger size) to use as a campfire due to the same safety concerns and easier clean up. I will probably cook over it as well.

I just bought the stove. Very nice video. :-)
The idea behind putting the larger wood on the bottom is to have a slower but longer lasting fire. It's called a top-down fire, where the embers slowly digs down into the firewood. There's no trouble doing it the traditional way, however, if you want a big fire or if you want better control by putting the wood in piece by piece.

I notice you are using instant coffee. I would like to suggest something I like to use, even at home. Folgers Coffee Singles, Classic Roast. These are separately packaged coffee bags, like tea bags, and they are tastier than instant. Also easy to pack, lightweight. I'm sure there are other brands as well. Just a suggestion Martin. Keep these interesting videos coming. Your English is very good.
