    You let the trout go. This pleased me so much because as you said, ‘you’d already had your dinner’. I admire this approach very much Martin.

    I have enjoyed your adventures. Being from Canada its great to see what the difference is between different countries. Great job. In Alberta where I use to fish for trout I used to use a panther martin orange and red dots or yellow and red with silver spinners smaller ones. Also when I would reel back after the cast I would do it nice and slow and pause every now and again. Please keep doing the videos its nice to get to the outdoors with you when I don't have a chance to.

    Great video Martin, and a lot of fun.
    Funnily enough, I sat down to watch it just after I had come back from cooking myself some steak and mushrooms on my Folding Firebox. You know the one I think - very similar to the Bushbox.
    These folding stoves are easier to run than little ones like the Solo Stove because, as you say, they can take larger pieces of firewood and so do not need such constant attention. The only downside is the extra weight.
    Congratulations on catching that fine trout. I have never managed to catch a fish like that.
    Best wishes,
    Noel

    Great video, grats on the catch! You're on the right track for trout fishing. Any kind of spoon or spinner will work (adjust the lure size based on the size of the fish). For spinners you need to reel at a certain tempo in order to keep the blade spinning and working (you can feel the vibration in the pole/rod when it's working properly). You can try some trolling type lures like flatfish or triple teezers, but since you're on the shore they won't really work as designed. You can also try some still fishing on the bottom. Trout love garlic, so if you can get some garlic marshmallows made for trout (or powerbait) you can give those a try. I like to pair garlic marshmallows or powerbait with salmon eggs, slip sinker to a swivel with whatever amount of leader to the hook you think you need based on the length of the bottom vegetation. The marshmallows/powerbait will float the bait up off the bottom to the lenght of your leader, just above the level of the vegetation. If the trout are on the top then fly fishing is always a winner. If you don't have fly fishing gear, use a bobber/float with salmon eggs or worms. Anyway, these are all ways I have been catching trout my whole life. I'm sure other people have some great ideas as well. Take care and never give up on fishing :)

    • @NorwegianWoods
      @NorwegianWoods  7 років тому

      Thanks a lot for sharing your tips and experiences. They are most welcome. I have done a fair bit of casting, trolling and worm bait fishing for peach and pike, but this is my first attempt on the trout. I will try some fly fishing at some point. But I think I will stick to the stuff I am somewhat used to this season :)

    Just one little bit of advice; when cooking, get a bigger pot and let us know when, so we all can get in on the grub scene. And you were right...anything cooked with a tomato base only gets better, no many how many days you hold on to it. It just keeps getting better. But all in all, that just wasn't right...here I am sitting here drinking beer and eatin' peanuts and you've got all the good stuff!!! But anyway, I sure did enjoy this video.....and MAN, WHAT A BEAUTIFUL PLACE!!! Oh, by the way, congratulations on the catch...that made me hungry too. It kind of broke my heart when you let it go...but you did the right thing. Congratulations on a good video. Looking forward to another one....(maybe at the same place???).

    Try adding a length of say 2 or 3 kg breaking strain monofilament or fluorocarbon which is invisible in water at the end of your line. A metre would do and vary the speed of your retrieve. Fast then slow then let the lure sink a little and so on. Try a Tasmanian devil lure which should be available in most tackle shops.

    Nice fish and a really Nice overnighter Martin!
    The trout doesnt always bite on plastic/metal lures, try a fly tied to a Inno-float bub ”link in bottom”
    I have had a lot of success with those on both rainbow trout and trout.
    Angling with float is also nice, thats the Nice thing about these inno floats, its really easy to change the little pin inside from a ready made flyset into a ready made angling set with just a single hook for worms :-)

    Well done with the catch in the lake, and what a nice video again Martin! I think you found a good concept and format, I enjoy it a lot. I just fixed an old Swedish army trangia burner with a half tin can for pot stand around the burner, so I get ride of the external stand as everything fits in the trangia, love it, will show it to you this winter if we don't meet before. Take care my friend, thank you for inspiration and quality work!

      The army burner is twice as big but still a small item easy to take with even for day hike with the kids and have a warm nypon soppa, coffee osv.. :)

    Great videos and looks like you have an awesome camera. I am deciding between these two stoves (bushbox titanium xl vs Solo stove titan). Very hard to decide. Solo is better price and more features, but takes more space in backpack, while Bushbox folds down flat, but is more expensive and more exposed to wind. I would like to get titan but just worried about the size it will take. Hmmm

    • @NorwegianWoods
      @NorwegianWoods  6 років тому

      They are both good stoves. Both worked a lot better than I thought they would. For me I think the biggest pro with the Solo Stove is that is is safer in the dry summer months. The Bushbox gives more of a campfire feeling. I guess I will be using both in the future :)

      I have the solostove titan, Im so Happy with it and has order the solostove campfire as well :-) My backpack is pretty big, so the titan fits without a problem there, or just hang it on the outside!
      Good luck deciding wich one to buy, Im shure you be Happy with both!
      One big advantage That i see with solo stove is the cleaner burn with much less smoke than the bushbox, solostove is more efficient in its burncycle, to me thats a very important factor.

    As always, wonderful photographic content in difficult conditions. Man, that Chili looked so good. The chili pepper is the secret.
    I've never tried the Bush Box. I use a home made Hobo Stove. The Bush Box packs nicely. Take care and I am already a Zed sub. 👍

    Also a tip for a Nice lure That i have had success with, dynamite lure!
    If i were you i Would buy a black one, and also a really colorful one and a silver one, then you have covered many situations, try the black one at night if the sky is clear from clouds.

    Just a little hint about your "big" camera using in wet conditions (like rain):
    Try using a shower cap to cover up the camera (the opening of the shower cap used for the lens obviously ;-) )

    My compliments on the great videos,i find them very interesting and good atmosphere. If i could make one suggestion for future videos if you have a particular item that is of interest to you or you think is a good item for those on a budget maybe leave a link to where people can get them particularily those in Europe, most of the links i come across are USA based and do not ship to Europe so it makes research difficult. You are doing a great job my friend, keep up the good work.Slainte.

      Hello my friend. I have though about that. The problem is that I have viewers from all around the world. Most of the products are on sale from time to time in a lot of different places so I think it is good to do some research before buying anything. Some products do not have European distributors at all. The Bushbox are sold on the Bushcraft Essentials website. They are located in Germany.
      Thanks a lot for watching - Martin

      Apologies yes i only thought of the viewer thing days after posting but no worries.Actually i find your videos relaxing and interesting i think in part because you have a very relaxed natural way of doing things which makes a nice change from some of the fast paced full of product reviews videos, though they are good at times.Stay safe,Slainte agus Beannacht.

    Great Video Martin, I am enjoying your channel having watched quite a few of your films.I am a big fan of the solo stove I have a bush buddy type I think they are similar plus the home made fancee feest cat can stove. I love your wooden cup and spoon, do you know where can I buy one?
    Keep on camping
    Cheers!
