Miss the car hoist days from school. More and more electronics in cars today leave me with the deer stare in the headlights. My 2018 needed pads. There was still plenty of meat left on the rear (60,000) but the rotor looked just like yours did. I've rented scan tools before but knew this new parking brake had more to it than I wanted to "hack" my way thru it. I'm glad I found your page. Thanks!

@@alyoungcuda Follow up. O'Reily's didn't rent, Advanced Auto loans a basic OBD2. Well I went and bought one. Innova Model 5510 (after getting the wrong one ). And those bolts for attaching the caliper bracket, holy crap! Those were torqued on by the factory and look like they had red locktight to boot. My impact with universal and extension, nope. I had to get my BFBB in there to just start them turning, then came right out with the impact.
Thanks, awesome video and right to the point. The dealerships wants to charge me almost $500 to replace the rear brake pads, it's insane. I'll give it a try and hope it works for Mitsubishi.
I just wanted to put it out there, I bought the 5160RS just like yours and there were no options for the left and right actuator. So when I test drove the park light flashes and I wasn't able to use the parking brake. I went back and retracted the EPB and set the parking brake without extending them. Now the parking brake works just fine.
Yes, a friend of mine did the same thing, it seems like it doesn't reset the 1st time, I told him to start over again and then it worked. And yes there is no left or right..

i recently bought this same scanner, when i retract the EPB on my GMC Terrain, the passengers side retracts much farther then the drivers side.. now the caliper won't fit over new brake pads, on drivers side, can't turn calipers in enough..any ideas?
@@USArmy91222 oh no, that code usually sets when the master cylinder reservoir is full and it doesn't have enough room for the brake fluid to be pushed back up into it and it damages the sensors in the ebcm. Check to see if your reservoir is filled to the top, that might also be a reason why the actuator won't retract back since the reservoir is full and the brake fluid has nowhere to go.
@@bruceb8999 and remember, you can't reinvent the wheel..if it was easier to just jump it then why bother even having it in the car..if you don't pay attention and either short it out to ground and zap your computer or caliper motor then you have lost..its easier to do it right ...

@@alyoungcuda Thank u. Ya I wouldn't do it like these other UA-camrs r pulling that off. I don't mess around with breaks. I do them how they should be done. I've have code readers. Just not one that does this process. I would rather spend the $350 on that reader then chance the breaks from malfunctioning. Also alot cheaper to buy that reader then pay the $1200 for the back breaks to get it done at the dealership. The fronts I was quoted $700.00. I can do breaks. Thanks for taking times to post this information up. And those prices I gave u. Is for just changing the pads only. No rotor replacements or rotors being turned. Prices r thru the roof on everything now.

Depends on how they did it, as you can tell on some videos, the hack jobs are to jump the motor on the caliper with a seperate 12 volt source or disconnect the motor from the caliper or just grab a pair of pliers and twist the crap out of the caliper piston to push it back in. But as you can tell from the video, its simple and no damage done and the pistons push in like butter. If you read some of the comments, some people have run into problems without doing this 1st.

I'm trying this with my 5610 and it keeps telling me the vehicle is not supported or that it failed to connect on every car I've tried. and I've tried OK basic cars like traverse and equinox. did I get a faulty scanner?
When it states not supported, its either the vehicle does not have that or the scanner is not connecting to the vehicles..you wrote 5610 as the model you have?
@@alyoungcuda yes, that's the model I have. It connected to the vehicle okay. I'm able to reset oil life and other stuff but it doesn't allow brake functionality
5610 does not support it, the outside box will state epb/abs service..5160rs is the one i used and you can see on the outside of the box is that it supports the epb

And when the person tries a bootleg hack which they never did in their life and zaps something, they can reach out to you..make a video of the power probe and show everyone on UA-cam how it can be done.
@alyoungcuda bootleg hack? Its a simple electric motor with positive and negative feeds. Common sense is so uncommon these days. And if you don't have any common sense, you shouldn't even attempt to change your own brakes.

@@757MrMark a small sledge hammer and a combination wrench always work too..because you can't get a breaker bar in the rear area.
Just did this job. No scan tool needed. Saved myself $300 or more not having to buy a scanner

No wifi, it plugs into the connector under the dash, no need to touch the brake reservoir, and the scanner will work for most cars

That's not good, either the caliper is stuck or the actuator is stuck. You can remove the actuator from the caliper and see if the caliper pushes in .

No, front brakes you just press the piston back into the caliper with no problems
Even if there is no master cylinder

@@seguroinfante5477 yes, because this only pertains to the electronic parking brakes which is in the rear calipers and not in the front
You can retract the EPB with a power supply. It does the same thing as the scan tool.
Sure can but if done wrong or butchered, you can mess up the connector, scanner is cleaner and easier

Once u replace the breaks can you reset it thru that sustem
You need to use the scanner to reset it and you're good to go

Get a 9V battery and 2 alligator clip wires. Basicly make a power probe.
