I have a recipe very similar. Same as yours but add a stick of melted butter and a cup of pecans to the top. We call it Dump Cake... because you don't mix it, just dump everything the in! Never made it over a fire, but will be doing that real soon!
Yea buddy. When I was a Scoutmaster we always did that. It’s so easy. The only difference is that we cooked it with a bed of coals under it and on the lid at the same time. When you smell it it’s done.
A favorite of mine is 1 can of cherry pie filling, 1 can of root beer, and a spice cake mix ... I also chunk up a cube of butter when I put the top heat on.
I do something similar, but I add one stick of butter cut up to the top and sprinkle with cinnamon. You can also use different cake mixes. I like spice cake. Cherry pie with chocolate cake mix is also good. I also cook mine on a coal bed with coals on top.
Thanks for the video. That's one of the first things I learned how to cook in a Dutch oven in boyscouts back in the 1970's. Another couple things I always make are stick biscuits. Use Bisquick bisket dough and form it on to the end of the small branch of a fruit tree about 2 inches thick so it makes a cup. Put the other end in the ground and angle towards the fire. Any small game animal can be wrapped in a layer of Bisquick bisket dough placed in a paper bag coated in cooking oil and put in a large Dutch oven.
I've done this with 3 fruits apple, cherry and blueberry at the same time one can in each third of the oven Bisquick and sprinkled with brown or white sugar makes for happy Scouts
If you are car camping with the family use a tinfoil pan in the Dutch oven to help with cleanup. Also cut up a stick of butter and put it over the top. Keep rotating the pan and the lid.
As an aside, you can do something very similar at home. 1 can of pie filling, 1 box of cake mix, 2 eggs. Beat the eggs, add cake mix and pie filling, mix until smooth, put in a baking tray and bake for 25 minutes in an oven pre-heated to 350 F.
Hey Dan been following for a while just want to say i love how intentional your videos are, unique, to the point, informative and great filming. Cheers brother, keep them coming.
Good video, Dan! I always enjoy your campfire cooking videos. Makes me hungry, but moreover it makes me want to get out into the woods so I can do it myself! Thanks!
@@stevethecountrycook1227 love to you brother! I just stopped at goodwill and picked up an 18 x 4in deep OLD cast iron skillet with lid for $7.00. I'm gonna double this recipie and try doing a half blueberry on one side and half our Oregon BlackBerry on the the other, this looked good to me. God bless you brother!
Another quick topping is instant oat meal; a few packs of cinnamon brown sugar instant oatmeal spread over the top instead of the cake mix and you have a quick apple crisp type dessert. If you have a stick of butter smash it into the oatmeal to make a crumb mixture then spread it on top of the apples. The butter makes it better but it’s not really needed.
I'm disappointed. You will take the time to make a wonderful pour over coffee but use boxed and canned ingredients for this. I have confidence you can make this recipe so much better!

My aunt used to make it with the melted butter on top, and call it the same thing. Pineapple was really good.
We made ours with peaches & 7-up. That was our troops favorite. I line the dutch oven with foil first on mine. Makes clean up much easier lol
It looks great, but more so, it tasted FANTASTIC!!! Thanks Dan for sharing your delicious pie with us.

I do something similar, but I add one stick of butter cut up to the top and sprinkle with cinnamon. You can also use different cake mixes. I like spice cake. Cherry pie with chocolate cake mix is also good.
I also cook mine on a coal bed with coals on top.
It looks good, I will have to try that one. Have a good day.
Bet that hot cobbler was awesome in that cold weather and amazing setting. Thanks for sharing
This is indeed the most easy applepie recipe I've seen. Thanks for sharing.

i like to do this with my daughter 👍
I like to use a spice cake mix with the apple pie filling. And add some butter on top before cooking.

DUMP!! the woodsmans cobbler.....awesome stuff

Fantastic! I'm outward bound just to try it...
We call that a dump cake, I make it all the time. Cherry pie filling with a can of chunk pineapple is good to.
Looked mighty good. Smoke makes everything taste better, even dessert.
Looked great! Thanks for sharing.
Thank you for such an easy recipe. My kids can not wait to try this
That's such an Awesome technique!!! Diffidently going to use this on my next outing!!!
The music is really nice quality!!!
I line the Dutch with tinfoil, butter on top of the cake mix
Good video, Dan! I always enjoy your campfire cooking videos. Makes me hungry, but moreover it makes me want to get out into the woods so I can do it myself! Thanks!
Good stuff brother. The apple dump cake is a must at any camp

Awesome recipe! I use this on a smaller scale in my bush pot. 👍
cherry and pineapple mix is good... and a boatload of butter on top makes it better....
Yes I do!!! LoL blessings to you and your family 😇 🇺🇸
I like add butter and cinnamon on top👍🏻

Dan you are the best. I wanna party with you guys

Darn you to heck! I'm doing Atkins and cant do sugar
Yup butter on top as you bake it is the way to go......
Love deserts 👍
Been eating this for 50 years.
We call it sunken pie.
By the way cute little yurt that you have there
Nice job!
That looks excellent! And how much easier can it get? Lol. I love the cooking with coalcracker vids!!
Apple pie followed by some Bush drinking 💪👍🇺🇸

Oh man you forgot a key Ingredient. Cut a stick of butter up and sprinkle on top of the dry cake mix.
Well done, buddy! I can watch cast-iron cooking videos like this all day! Did you do anything to keep the filling from sticking?
Yep A stick of butter across the top is all I do different. Thanks.
How long did u keep the coals on top?
Looked yummy! Cud toss in some pecans...
awesome
Allman brothers?
Sweet!
I need an extra couple of thumbs up to click on.. one just isn't enough!
Good video Daddy Dan
Did I see a walmart in back of your yurt in the distance there on the hill?
Now I want PIE!!! :)
Could I substitute the white cake mix with chocolate and make a chocolate cherry pie?
I’ve done this before, but I added rum.
It’s a classic dump cake
Did you grease the Dutch oven prior to adding ingredients?
Выглядит вкусно
What kind of bushcraft is that? Using cake powder and canned fruits? What if I wanted to do it with the normal stuff? ;^;
Did you use one box of cake mix?
Man.. Cornbread mix man!!
Does it work with pumpkin
Looks delicious...but it's a cobbler. You made peach cobbler.
I want some!??
So was it crunchy or gooey ? Crumbly or cakey ? Sorry, I'm none the wiser.
100% honest I never knew they sold pie filling in a can..
It's gotta be tasty. But..."all our ingredients are in the dutch oven"? You mean all both of them? Shoot, man, I'm gonna try this at home.
How many carbs in that LOL
Carbs aren't bad for you. It's the damn chemicals that the companies are adulterating the product with that is bad for you.
@@celtgunn9775 too many carbs are unhealthy
Anyone come here from playing Zelda Breath of the Wild?
Yu can make Apple Pies in that game too xD
This is just a Dump cake. Still good tho
I'm disappointed. You will take the time to make a wonderful pour over coffee but use boxed and canned ingredients for this. I have confidence you can make this recipe so much better!
PLEASE shave or TRIM your mustache my biggest pet peeve with your videos
how can you even call putting 2 packaged processed food garbage together and bake it "cooking", please keep your garbage food for yourself.
You could have kept that comment to yourself. You must be a liberal
