Thank you for all that you have done. This ED is the last place I was able to speak with my dad before his passing around a year and a half ago. The staff was beyond caring and sensitive to our situation. The nurses and doctors I spoke to while there are one of the many reasons I am currently studying medicine.

If you don't want to have long waits go to a hospital that is not a trauma center, so you aren't being pushed back by ambulances and helicoptors. Many hospitals have very good ERs that are not trauma centers.

"Things are relatively controlled and slow at the moment"= equals = saying its quiet. You do not ever say the Q word.

Don't they put trauma specialist doctors on the air ambulance? There's one on every helicopter here, sometimes with an anaesthetist too. These patients seem to be coming in not packaged properly and there is no doctor to doctor handover. Paramedics don't do handovers unless its not serious. But these would be brought in by road ambulance anyway. We have 10 resus rooms and thirty beds in our Trauma Centre in Sydney. There two OR's, two CT scanners and one MRI scanner right beside the Trauma Center. There are six trauma centers across the city and each one has a helicopter. There is no location in the metropolitan area that is more than ten minutes away by helicopter. They are owned and run by the NSW Ambulance Service which is part of the NSW Government Department of Health. Our system is modeled on the British HEMS system with is part of their National Health Service. For the richest country in the world, your health service is lagging behind best practice.

Stephen in OZ - our air ambulances have critical care paramedics and nurses- our paramedics can intubate patients in the field (on scene)- most air ambulances have blood products and drugs. Usually most air ambulances can transport patients to trauma centers in less than 20 minutes- here in the USA we have many trauma centers. Our paramedics that ride the ambulances all are trained to intubate patients at the scene if needed, have knowledge and ability to administer medications at the scene as well as in ambulance on way to hospital - our fire services are very good- and in most places can get a patient to a hospital within 10-15 minutes.

I agree - if they have this stuff they didn't show it in this video - America see - the land of pay for service.

You do get used to it in fact you get numb to death. Seriously even death of a family or loved one doesn't even phase me anymore, it's all part of the cycle we do on earth.
