The fact that Stephen can just verbatim quote the Lord if the Rings like that certifies his Nerd Card and National Treasure status.
I'm gonna say chances are slightly on the side that he read that quote off the teleprompter. Not trying to diminish his LOTR cred-- He probably knows that particular quote quite well. It's a toss up.
Considering he has recited entire poems at the drop of a hat during guest interviews, my money is on him actually knowing that paragraph by heart. He recited it like Catholics recite Psalms, memorized and with a cadence.
@Wary of Extremes May I just say, I am so humbled that you created your UA-cam account for the sole purpose of commenting that inane crap after my also-inane comment. It truly is amazing to know the first thing you did after creating your account and becoming semi-sentient was to squirt that nonsensical shit of a comment out. I mean, you didn’t even take the time to try to pretend you were a real person and make any sort of a profile for yourself before commenting! I respect that.
Absolutely!
Jon said that Stephen has photographic memory. Was that just a joke or could it be he really has it?
“Jon, it’s 2020. All metaphors are real now”. This fact checks out.
Just hearing Jon Stewart's voice makes me feel a little calmer.

Sameee
Same 😭
Yes, same here as well. I've noticed lately how stressed and depressed he seems. I think people who are highly intelligent are probably in a lot of pain right now (mental anguish) at the realization of what's actually going on. Especially those who also have a deep sense of empathy, as Jon does! I've honestly felt ill these last 4 years (physically, mentally, emotionally). I can't say that I'm highly intelligent but I'm intelligent enough to recognize what's going on and I have a strong sense of empathy. I feel like I won't be well until Trump is OUT! I feel like Jon (and Stephen) actually did a lot (and still do) to keep the balance and perspective that so many of us who feel "off kilter" need. But I'm sure it must be exhausting for them. They've both been telling the truth through intelligence and humor (even if it seems like it's silly humor at times) I know it comes from a very serious place. The world needs more people like the two of them. I hope that Jon is doing some serious self-care right now. I started doing meditation because I just had to find some way to reduce the anxiety.
@@lisao1965 stay safe & look after yourself over there, it won't always be like this - it just can't.
@@moniqm3607 Thank you Moniq! And I agree, it just CAN'T remain like this! I remember hearing somewhere that in times of great turmoil there is great change. And when this happens the pendulum swings really far one way, before swinging really far the opposite direction, before eventually finding balance somewhere in between. Well, I think the pendulum swung really far with President Obama, for equal rights, social and environmental justice, etc. Then it swung really far the other way with Donald Trump and a backlash against having a "black President". After seeing people of all colors/backgrounds marching after the murder of George Floyd, I know that the shift is coming. I think it will be painful due to the large number of people resisting change, but change will come, and I believe it will be for the better. But it can't happen soon enough!

was that from the book & did you have that memorized or did ya have to look it up?
I voted 4 years ago, dude. I thought for sure our country was better than this, I thought we would have enthusiastically voted our hearts out to keep trump from ever being president. People didn't show up, or they voted 3rd party, or they voted for trump.
I'm pissed because 4 years ago I was begging people to do the right thing and show up at the polls, to not vote 3rd party in 2016, but all i got was a lot of grief for my efforts. We are here because we don't deserve better, we have the president we deserve. Face it, the US is trash for not taking our right to vote seriously, for not treasuring the US Constitution, regardless of how imperfect it is.
We aren't going to get rid of trump, even if biden wins in an overwhelming landslide. Trump will stay in power somehow, he won't ever leave the White House.
I just don't see the point in fighting it. We lost our democracy 4 years ago, we literally threw it away and I doubt it will ever really return in my lifetime.

SAME.
"The Presidency is supposed to age the president, not the people." - what a great way to gauge the effectiveness and the quality of the president in office.
This is so true!
Trump has been a blessing. The outrage is the result of the media and the other high dollar politicians that want his authority. Sorry, better get some of that “just for men”...we’re not giving the country back. Learn to come over to THIS side of conservatism. We bring life back to politics.

It's like in the great stories, Mr. Stephen. The ones that really mattered. Full of darkness and danger, they were. And sometimes you didn't want to know the end... Because how could the end be happy? How could the world go back to the way it was, when so much bad had happened? But in the end, it’s only a passing thing, this shadow. Even darkness must pass. A new day will come. And when the sun shines, it will shine out the clearer. Those were the stories that stayed with you -- that meant something, even if you were too small to understand why. But I think, Mr. Stephen, I do understand. I know now. Folk in those stories had lots of chances of turning back, only they didn’t. They kept going, because they were holding on to something... That there is some good in this world, and it's worth voting for.
That’s what good literature is about....timeless. It can move us in any decade and we see the kernel of truth and the clear light that directs us to a higher plateau....words become thoughts, thoughts become ideals, ideals lead to actions. For the benefit of humanity...the love of our fellow man.
