@@PapagenoMF Idk about that. Dave does hour long comedy standup sets just freestyle on the regular. He's the best in the world at what he does and it isn't unbeleivable that he free styled this speech. I imagine he atleast had a few bullet points written down about subjects he wants to touch on. However, I do beleive the speech was improvised.
Dave can spout about anything for any length of time without writing it down. He's transcendent like that. Like jazz musicians who can improvise during a jam session. He's that good.
“I’m sorry I got it before you, but I’m your lucky lead-in”. The way he brought that line back full circle, this man is a master story teller and comedian.
Reminds me so much about a particular love line I heard my dad tell my late mum when I was growing up...'I don't love you because I need you, I need you because I love you.'
We in Dayton, Ohio were at an all time low, after the mass shooting that occurred here, and Dave Chapelle, and Jon Stewart came in totally lifted our spirits. Two awesome men.
Agree and admire everything, EXCEPT comments on Donald Trump. Trump was (and will be) a great President. Maybe the jealousy about how funny Trump is😊☺️
I agree! I saw him on Inside the Actor's Studio many years ago. I've seen a lot of great guests on that show, and I have to say that Dave Chappelle was by far, my favorite. It became clear that out of so many guests, he was the most brainy and intelligent, the most insightful, the most comfortable in his own skin, the most down to earth and human, the most entertaining and likable, the most enlightened, the most zen, the funniest, the deepest, skillfully improvisational yet clearly studied, the most dedicated and professional, the most humble, the most open-minded, tops in his field, AND an amazingly gifted and captivating story teller. 💫🧠🫀🦁🌀🏆♦🎭💎☯👏👏👏⚡🥇🪄👑
@@man_fakir I don't think it went over their head. And they had every right to laugh because Chappelle is the kind of guy that knows how he can bring something serious. I think he did mean to keep it light. I laughed and still got the message of it and i appreciated it.
Dave Chappelle is one of the most eloquent people to ever hold a mic. I can attest to Jon Stewart's kindness. I get a Wish from Make-A-Wish when I was 16. Jon's humor helped me get through chemo and radiation for two brain tumors. So, I wanted to see a taping of The Daily Show and thank him for making me laugh during the darkest time of my life. My whole family got to meet him in a green room after the show. It was surreal. My sister got a hug from him because she was the only person shorter then him in my family. My point is, I could feel the quality of Jon's character, which Chappelle so eloquently described. And, I have the utmost respect for both of those comedians.
Wow, that’s incredible. I’m glad you got your wish and I hope you’re in much better health now. I’m sure Jon would have been very honoured to have been chosen as your wish.
Really listen to what Dave is saying. He was 17 years old and Jon was an adult and Jon and people like Jon made him feel safe. Now knowing all we know about this industry, this is huge 👑
Jon & some of the other older NY comedians at that time actually used to look after Dave & make sure no one took advantage of him. They were pretty much like big brothers to him.
When you love and admire someone it just pours out of you so effortlessly, and Dave showed that with such incredible passion it made me choke up. What an incredible tribute.

@@LacklusterOfficial In my opinion Chapelle's contemporaries worth also checking out are: Bill Burr, Louis CK as well as late Norm Macdonald and Patriece O'Neil. They each have their own unique brand of humor but they are all masters of comedy. Alongside Chapelle they belong to the top shelf.

This speech maybe one of the most incredible speeches ever delivered. The fact that he did it without a teleprompter and just came from the heart is unreal.
Its weird how he never got cancelled for his comments on trans people and pronouns. Many people have been cancelled for saying much less. He must have some kind of privilege.
Imagine being Jon Stewart and watching the greatest orator in the comedy world, as he give such a speech about how much he loves and respects you. Truly two legends right there...
TRUTH is always funny, although it hurts not to seldom. But TRUTH NEVER FAILS. It ALWAYS delivers, it has the longest memory, and forgives everything. TRUTH COMES BEFORE EVERYTHING - EVERYTHING IS THE RESULT OF TRUTH, INCLUDING THE HUMAN (MIND).
Dave always brings heart and soul to his routine and when he truly cares about something, it comes through so beautifully. I thoroughly enjoyed watching this.
Chappelle is the only comedian I've ever known to be able to tell a story with only a few jokes sprinkled in, and it still is fascinating to watch. It's almost like an art performance.

Unexpected call backs to jokes or lines from earlier in the set like this is one of my favorite tools in comedy, and it's particularly amazing how well he managed to do it with that line on the fly like that.
This has to be the most honest tribute speech I’ve ever heard. Chappelle manages to say stuff and not make it sound creepy, all the tributes come across sincere and from the heart. At no point does it sound as if he’s just on stage to say something funny. “Bravo”.
Dave’s presence on the stage is frighteningly good. His timing, his choice of words, with a few (or a lot of) moments of comedy… it’s truly something special.
He has a good point about Good Points and Good Jokes. Weak, flaccid, Jokes with no point is garbage. But if you have a good point and are funny in delivery, it's both strong and funny.
This guy’s clarity of mind is incredible. I feel like people get lost in their thoughts when they have something to say about a person or a topic but Dave can always speak straight through and touch as many points as possible along the way.
Dave Chapelle is such an accurate social commentator-and Jon Stewart is truly a legend-begging some VERY necessary questions in our society! Bless You and Dave Chappelle!
Dave has matured to be the most _masterful_ comedian of our time. I see his name and I immediately click, not just because I know it will be funny. I click because I know whatever he has to say will be said in the most engaging, the most passionate, and at the same time the most humorous way imaginable. As a public speaker myself I will tell you it's no small feat to pull off all three simultaneously. Facts tell, but stories sell. If you're ever going to give a tribute to someone who means a lot to you, this is how you do it - engagingly, humorously, and authentically. Hats off to you Dave. Always a pleasure to see you speak.

It's a little weird seeing who he's become since the first sets I saw on Just For Laughs. 20+ years later, Stewart and Chapelle are still the voices we need the most, and that's a hell of a legacy.
Dave was so eloquent in his praise for John. It was so touching to see and hear the reverence regarding John Stewart. The admiration is reciprocal. Amazing speech.
This gentleman is the epitome of intelligence, sophistication, class, and integrity. Mr Chapelle thank you for being the voice of inspiration and integrity. ONWARD.

I don't think people understood what he was saying. Which is silly because he spent the prior two minutes setting up the context, but I guess in the end it still flew over peoples heads. I agree though, it's a bummer the audience didn't grasp how heartfelt and meaningful that statement was.
That moment is a great example of the difference between hearing and listening. Also firmly supports what he said about him being nice and present. Violence begets violence but kindness multiplies kindness.
People definitely understood what Chappelle was saying. Y'all would laugh at a setup of a Dave Chappelle joke, let alone a punchline, so it's no surprise a crowd would laugh at such a heartfelt statement.
Eh. He IS there because he loves Jon. He says at the end that he loves him. It was one of those multi-layered, double meaning jokes, that’s why it was genius and that’s why people laughed (including professional comedians that were in the audience and also friends of both men). He made several purposefully condescending jokes at Jon’s expense - calling himself a good lead in and the reason the daily show was successful, saying he seemed like a coke guy, etc etc. Your comment has nearly 600 likes in a year so clearly others agree with you, but thats fine, i don’t mind being the odd one out.

The honest answer is that Chapelle is incredibly smart. He doesn't have a bunch of fancy degrees, but his emotional intelligence is off the chain. His mother was a teacher, and clearly taught him a lot about life.
Chapelle has a delivery like no other. It's amazing to watch him work. He can be very sincere in one sentence and hilarious in the next. Nice to see Stewart and Chappelle have remained friends.
remained friends? he sort of defended him on Colbert, but just sort of. Talk about betrayal. And ive lost all respect for Stewart over his segment on the right to allow little kids access to gender affirming care when they are just little kids. Lets pump them with drugs that havent been approved by the FDA, they are five years old, they know what they want!
His punchlines are slipped in so subtly they worm their way under your anticipation and slap you in the face. It's like the opposite of thunder and lightning. You hear the words, but the laughter takes a second to come in. With other comedians, your mind sees the punchline coming a split second before the joke lands, so your expectations soar instantaneously. Your guard is up subconsciously, even if you don't want it to be. The joke can't help but be deflated a little by being compared to your peak expectation. Chappelle has that shifty jab that hits you between the eyes and is already gone before the feeling can set in. And all you can do is laugh about it.
My favorite line in this is still to this day "I am not here cause I love Jon, I am here cause he loves me." Speaks to the kind of person Jon is and how strong his love is. Dave is a masterful story teller and he can weave jokes and heartfelt messages together like no other.
“Younger comics do what I call, ‘wokes,’ they’re not jokes. They don’t know the difference between a good point and a good joke.” I don’t think I’ve heard a better description of the problems of contemporary comedy than this. Damn. Thank you, Mr. Chappelle.
I think the problem with woke, is that it's the same with incredibly conservative comedy, and it lacks any sort of self awareness. Dave Chappelle can put a lens on his life and just earnestly make fun of himself. Something the woke and conservative crowd can't do
@@chrism8860 Yeah, I agree. I don’t consider just making “good points” funny, unless they’re…uh…funny. Then it’s great. All good. I see “funny” too often replaced by “good opinions” these days. Too often, a comedian is lauded for opinions even if they’re not funny. Not comedy to me. Funny is funny. I also hate the hypocrisy of laughing at stuff that you agree with but then calling for the cancellation of someone you don’t agree with, even if they’re really funny.
Self derision is always the safest form of comedy. Its what made Louis CK famous, and if you watch Ricky Gervais' FIRST Golden Globes then they were mostly self derision. You can't go wrong with that because if you make fun of yourself, you can't get offended. The reality is that what is 'off limits' right now is essentially what you'd call 'vindictive comedy', which is stuff that should have been off limits ages ago. Actually, it usually was. You can actually still do 'generality' jokes, virtually nobody complains if you make jokes at the expense of politicians. Go watch a Bill Hicks or George Carlin act and it still holds up just fine. You can still do silly british style humour so basically what is out of line are the low hanging fruit that has always made for pretty bad comedy. Its the people who are infatuated with identity politics and want to make jokes about it that suffer, and frankly they weren't funny anyway. Its not like there is any lack of subject to base humour on. When comedians do that, they are essentially going for the easy crowd appeal, like when they walk into Denver and say its the greatest city in the world or that Boulder sucks. There has ALWAYS been stuff off limits, hell, go ask Leenny Bruce.
@@mikearchibald744Literally every single joke ever made is at someone else’s expense, even if that someone is the joke-teller themselves. Dave Chappelle is absolutely just amazing and the fact that he came to support his friend and colleague Jon Stewart with such beautiful story and message is AMAZING!
He didn't write a speech. Also, he didn't have a teleprompter like everyone else did. And that speech was 100% authentic, genuine, and from the heart. Holy hell Chappelle is brilliant.
I LOVE booth of these men. We need a lot more of them around. Intelligent, honest, very funny, and they set a good example of how you should live your life.
Jon Stewart is intelligent and typically left middle left with his political views. Jon Stewart would be a small fish in a big pond if he tried politics. This is why he doesn't do it I am sure. I believe he actually tried if I am not mistaken. And Chappelle isn't funny without writers. His jokes are immature and hot the high school level of audience. Anyone else can see this and is not entertained by the juvenile lineup of 6 topics he has for jokes. Chapel is honestly not funny enough to watch for me. Chappelles show was the only thing and even it was bland at times and the jokes wore out before they stopped creating shows and especially rerunning shows for years on end. Ughhh. Comedy central was a waste of space for a good two or three years. Like MTV and jackass crew and Dyrdek and all that. Too much then they disappear. Haha. Then get fat and maybe die of overdose of "fun and financial freedom and free time".

However, I do beleive the speech was improvised.
Dave can spout about anything for any length of time without writing it down. He's transcendent like that. Like jazz musicians who can improvise during a jam session. He's that good.
Well certainly he thought about the speech beforehand. Is that preparing? Maybe, maybe not.

Not for nothing do many call Dave the GOAT! The timing, the oratory, the language, the humor, the philosophy, and most of all the genuineness of how Dave came across - PERFECT!
@@businesswalks8301 To one with passable knowledge of the English language, there is absolutely no confusion, that oratory & philosophy, by definition, are are two completely different things, and can be effectively used in a single sentence. However, to quell your confusion,
Oratory, Is the art or skill of powerful and effective public speaking.
Philosophy, on the other hand, is the study of ideas and beliefs about the meaning of life.
Both of which Dave chappelle demonstrated with finesse.

He tied in all of the speeches of all other comedians that night, put them into context so people would get it, and he did it so beautifully well. I thank God that I've seen some amazing people in my lifetime, Dave Chapelle being one of the greatest of them all.
Dave is like the best story teller ever... the growth of this man from his early days as a comedian really needs to be studied.

It's obvious how these two guys love and respect each other. Dave is such an amazing storyteller and orator. Another thing I noticed is how much John's wife laughed and enjoyed herself throughout. Having a partner in life who shares the same sense of humor and way of looking at life is invaluable, and I am sure has heavily contributed to how grounded, real, funny, intelligent, and genuine the guy is.
I agree 💯
I love Dave, luckily as a 17 year old male he felt safe around Jon in a disturbing industry and world where 17 year olds are always in an extremely vulnerable position. Too bad Alicia Silverstone can't share that same experience with Jon....Makes you see him totally different. Go check out that interview to see the real Jon, absolutely sick.
My imagination, at its best, is being his wife for a day. Opened her dream rescue with his full support. Love it!
@@youtubepremiumaccount4063 I saw that Interview that You suggested that We check out, and Jon Stewart was on the borderline of being, as You have called it 'Pervy'. Jon did not make advances toward Alicia at all when I saw that clip, and If He really wanted to, He could have gone truly 'Pervy' and behaved like that Serious XM* 'Shock Jock' Howard Stern and then You would see what being 'Pervy' really looks like! I have even read Comments on UA-cam* that have accused Jon and MTV* for sexualizing that moment in the clip where Alicia held up Her Leg to make a Cracking Sound under the Boom Mike that was lowered for Her (Her 'Leg Crack' was barely noticable), and Jon followed Her lead and held up His Leg and Cracked it also (You can unmistakengly hear the Loud Cracking Sound His Leg gave off!). I must also remind You that Alicia rose to Fame using Her Good Looks, so She was definitely well aware of how Hyper-Sexualized Hollywood was, and still is Today. Who knows, with better representation, Alicia's Career would most likely be in a better place right now. It's good to know that over time, and with more Women in charge becoming Producers, Writers and Directors, that Shift in Power for Women in Hollywood is changing in Their favor so now They can decide how They want to be seen in the Media, instead of going by the Old-School Mindsets from Ever-Horny Males of how They think Women should be seen only as Sex Objects. (P.S.: Just so You know, this is written by a Male!)
@@bakersupreme2010I appreciate the attentiveness and attention span you have clearly stretching quite a bit beyond what most people(specifically Americans) can claim. To your points though, it wasn't as much about what he said, as it was the way he said it. She said "I'm 17" and he very awkwardly responded with "coool"...With a strange awkward pause and smile after clearly making her immediately uncomfortable. I mean everyone in the room knew why he said that. Whether it was more about the silence after or the comment itself is irrelevant to me, as I PERSONALLY see that as creep 101. What's so "cooool" about her being 17 and glaring at her akwardly after that for a good 5 seconds? Why was that a moment worth making? Let her answer that she's a minor, maybe show that you're impressed in what she's achieved so young, then move on. But no he proceeded to do that, and then show her in the Aerosmith video where she was inherently sexualized by the group(would hope you wouldn't disagree with that as they actually got in trouble for that, I belive by either hers or the other teenage girl who appeared in the videos parents). We love you Dave (GOAT)
Dave...how can one man be so hilariously funny yet soberingly eloquent. He makes it look effortless. Had me tearing up
The honest answer is that Chapelle is incredibly smart. He doesn't have a bunch of fancy degrees, but his emotional intelligence is off the chain. His mother was a teacher, and clearly taught him a lot about life.
He can also excel in dramatic work also.
@@KS-xk2so correct!
*Chappelle
Jon and Dave both have that skill. The shift from heartfelt or serious to humour is seemless and often unexpected. Rare skill.
My favorite line in this is still to this day "I am not here cause I love Jon, I am here cause he loves me." Speaks to the kind of person Jon is and how strong his love is. Dave is a masterful story teller and he can weave jokes and heartfelt messages together like no other.
Both these men are fountains of eloquence in these dry and parched times of truth.
Unless one has never laughed at a joke in their life, they have no leg to stand on when they criticize others for “laughing at someone else’s expense.” One should never be able to get away with that hypocrisy. No person is more special than the other in comedy, and I find it condescending and patronizing that liberal whites think that certain kinds of people are too fragile and weak to be made fun of. Bullshit.
