This is why people are so loyal to him. Even in this moment where he had earned the right to be proud of himself, he was still thinking of others and of the responsibility his platform comes with. Having followed him since the days when he was vlogging his health journey, I can say confidently that he has always had this attitude. ❤

As a nurse, this video (and all of Ren's music) has inspired me to reflect on my own interactions with people who are gravely, chronically ill, and to think critically about the ways in which our healthcare systems are structured and how those structures are not always for the benefit of our patients. And as a writer, I always marvel at how adept Ren is at transforming his personal thoughts and experiences into words that have universal meaning. He is economical with words, and has not only a vast vocabulary but also a broad knowledge base draw on which allows him to make connections and analogies that are sometimes so unique that they surprise you into thinking about something in a new way. That is an exceptional ability.

When I first heard this video I was struggling mentally after years of living with an invisible chronic pain condition.
First the first time in a very long time, I felt seen and understood.
I no longer felt alone in my struggles and had hope for a future where I could still be of value to this world.
Ren has taught me to live my life to the fullest I can, rather than just exist. And I am so much happier and accepting of myself.

What i love about Ren’s passage is both its selflessness and its breadth of application and action. Like so many of Ren’s lyrics, it takes one from the individual to the community and on to the world. It’s a philosophy for living no matter your situation. In a dark period of history in my own country, i think of his words about the decision we make with every interaction and i have found a measure of peace and a desire to connect with people even if we are at odds. Ren is so accessible and relatable and i feel like i owe it to him to heed his words.

Same for me- I was in equal parts laughing and crying at Hi Ren - laughing because someone finally made visible the snarky hateful voice and you just knew he really got it and all of a sudden you didn't feel alone and crying because it hurts to see someone else be tormented by those voices. This video just flipped the tickbox that he isn't all hyperbole and that he genuinely is a pretty exceptional human.

Thanks for reacting to this wise words of Ren 👍❤
Others already recommended Ren's autobiographical reading about his story in eight chapters: From the end of his best friend Joe, over becoming ill, getting and losing the contract with Sony, via his odyssey through various diagnosis and attempts of treatments to becoming at least better after his stem cell treatment. Absolutely worth watching. You will understand his songs even better afterwards and they become even more intense. Very personal and emotional videos.
His song Troubles is a kind of condensation of these readings.
Another great and deep work of art and wisdom is "Eden". It is a kind of mixture of speech and music. For me it belongs to his series of songs about greed: Crucify your Culture, Money Game 1 - 3 and Money Ties.

His disclaimor, "It's too much for me to remember right now...." is because this was during his treatment at the clinic in Calgary. Massive doses of anti-biotic & other medications would often leave him fuzzy-headed.

For me, it was not just this video, it's all of his work that made me see that I too can do what it takes. Sometimes it takes a person who's hurting more than you doing such incredible things, to get that last push for you to stop feeling sorry for yourself, for all the pain inflicted upon you by this life. But if he can try so hard in spite all that's burdening him, so can I. So yes, he inspired me to accept my darkness, lift my head up and start pursuing my dream. I can at least try. It is scarry, but it is freeing. I am eternally grateful to Ren for all that he has done. And thank you for this reaction, I have seen this video dozens of times, but something about seeing two beautiful souls instead of just one made it so much more powerful and beautiful ❤

*This* is why the RENegades love him so dearly. Ren is not just a brilliant artist but a beautiful human being who genuinely just wants to lift others up and inspire positive change in the world. If you have travelled far enough down the rabbit hole, none of this is surprising because it shines through in his art. Ren stands for authenticity, courageous vulnerability, and community. But this video is still very much worth watching because of how eloquently he expresses his wisdom and gives us all hope. As Ren reminds us: we are all just humans, flawed and prone to missteps, and that’s okay. Clearly any flaws of Ren just makes him more beautiful and inspirational for the rest of us through transparency, acceptance, and transformation. The world needs Ren. And there is no going back now. If you weren’t already a renegade at this point, watching this will surely do it cause how can you not love this man? 🖤🐰🕳️

for me, watching Ren express himself give me hope for humanity that there are those that are not self absorbed in the boundaries of their own flesh. He has a voice to express that which I don't think I could achieve, either in audience, but also in the poetic expression of a view. He not only expresses these things for himself, but for a whole (I believe to be a) group (which I am a part of) that I don't have the talent to express for ourselves, at least for myself.

As someone with a chronic illness, I always relate to Ren's journey in that way, but the thing that resonates with me in this video is the part about our actions tilting the world toward heaven or hell, etc. And how that is not the same for everyone. Being empathetic and respectful of the differing views that make up the "tapestry" of humanity is so important right now, when we are so divided.

Ren turns 35 next month, he is wise beyond his years and was born with an old soul, even listening to him when he was young he always seemed intelligent and knowledgeable. His IQ is high and it is apparent with his vocabulary and speech, not to mention how many skills and talents he has that is associated with music. But yrs in a sick body being stuck in his own thoughts propelled what was important to him..creating art and music, humankind and the earth. He also read a lot books being stuck in bed, history, arts, poetry, sci-fi etc. Great and touching reaction, thank you.

It’s super ingenious what he has done. Tom McDonald opened the door to independent artist, but Ren is really taking it to the next level hasn’t he!? And you’re so right spot on that actually his lack of green is going to end up making him twice as much maybe 10 times who knows. But certainly has proven that there is enough to go around and by being that way, people appreciate them support him, and like you said nobody loses everyone wins. Kujo beats is a prime example after he did Ren dirty and sold him an unlicensed sample on Sick Boi, Ren tried to negotiate and even go back and make a new track together with a 50-50 master split, which would’ve been a huge win for Kujo’s career. Instead, Kujo says no and now has a tarnish reputation gets no money from sick boy and doesn’t have a new top hit with one of today’s best artist I actually feel confident in saying today’s best artist. So ironically, it’s one of the topics that Ren speaks on all the time greed, which ruined Kujo’s career certainly has helped Ren’s career flourish, and certainly we all can learn from this.

    • @PeaceBeatswithDanBlackwell
      @PeaceBeatswithDanBlackwell  2 дні тому +2

I haven't gotten into the Kujo situation completely but I have a pretty good outline of what went down and sadly it's an all too familiar story. The industry is full of people screwing each other over but in the long run those types of people always lose ✌️🧡

I think the majority of artists are signed to producers who do the copystrikes. And the laws of some nations put even producers and artists in a bind where they’ll lose copyright ownership if they don’t defend any and all instances of copyright infringement. The whole legal ecosystem needs to change to reflect that reactors function like music magazines did in the old days: spreading news, recommending, or outright promoting artists.

Yes, you are right. Why should you ´feel´ less important as an artist than e.g. a fireman or detective? You do bring joy in this hard world, sometimes you save lives. This is what I wrote in a comment to Hi Ren, my "discovery" of Ren in april last year.
´I´m a 58 year old man from Belgium with a lovely wife and great sons, but unfortunately I went through the deepest dark for two-three years due to a number of reasons. But since April last year I feel good again (what a feeling! - since I didn´t expect it anymore) thanks to therapy, that I didn´t want/avoided for way too long. But the real lifesavers/lifechangers in that period were... artists/video´s on You Tube. If Michael Stipe (R.E.M.) didn´t sing 'Hold on/Hang on' in Everybody Hurts, I doubt that I would still be here. If Nightbirde didn´t sing ´It´s okay´ on AGT and didn´t say ´You can´t wait until life isn´t hard anymore before you decide to be happy', maybe I´d still be depressed. Just to say: I saw THIS video (and the reactions on YT to it) two days ago and I know FOR SURE this changes the life/thoughts of many people, this saves lives. Ren = hope. Because he´s real. Because he´s been there. Because he´s a (beautiful) human being...´
And 10 months later I still think so.
