I've just bought an old, cheap, secondhand Behringer mixer this weekend to have a go at 'no input mixing'. Been thinking about it for a while but Simon The Magpie's video the other day finally pushed me into finding a mixer, I even accidentally managed to get the exact same mixer that Andreij was using in Simon's video (plus it's coming slightly pre-broken so I don't have to worry too much about any further damage I may or may not cause).
Just ordered an 802s and I was kinda worried spending a tenth of something like an SSL SiX. Hearing the 1202 lasted 15 years and hearing you’re an m8 head I now feel like I got exactly what I needed for small house party djing!
Behringer has come a long, long way. I love my X-Touch. Yes, I know, it doesn't have any audio signal going through it, but it's a hell of a good unit for the money. If it works and it sounds good, who cares what brand it is? Budget gear for the win.
Another great review from you! I love my lil Behringer mixer, we have the same! And I have to go check out those 'turn a mixer into a synth' videos! That Bubbles pedal sounded friggin gnarly with it lol 🤘🐀
This looks awesome! They should make a 12 channel with an SD card and they can compete with my Zoom Live 8. I love it because I don't have record to a DAW at all and can separate those two work flows by importing clips later, but being able to just flip on the zoom and start recording without a computer
I’m pretty sure I had that exact mixer! They’re perfectly capable for simple mixing jobs USB interface is nice but totally agree on the multitrack recording! Most USB mixers only do stereo but multitrack would just be perfection if you’re doing interface functionality anyway
Multitrack is pretty much the main thing that diferentiates an analog mixer with an audio interface at these lower end models. If you want both live mixing and multitrack recording capability from the same device you really need to step up to digital mixers and the price tag that comes with them.
I used to have the eurorack many years ago from Barringer. I really loved it but the pots became really really scratchy. That mixer looks exactly like the Mackie that I have had for a number of years. Except for the USB. Looks cool!
Subscribed for the no-nonsense and fun review, and for my Love for Behringer gear. Yea I also have an OG 1002B, and that proprietary power cord is the main PITA specially when it dies, so really a welcome upgrade 😊

I have more or less exact same thing. I bought it for seventy quid. It works. I do want a giant old Yamaha desk but space and money are things I don't have.
I used to be mackie only, but today, I'm a Behringer Xenyx 1002b user, close to adding a second. 4 stereo, 2 mono, but I use two stereo channels as effects returns, for zoia and microcosm, currently.
@@StephenMcLeod Love zoia. It's sort of like having a tiny stripped down version of my old Nord Mod G2, in a pedal, only, now with sampling...And never a need for a computer, for patch/perf building.
@@StephenMcLeod These days, all of my work is heavily granular. I process everything I do, using multiple devices that process audio granularly, and I just added the Nunomo Qun mk2, which I got for it's granular synth voice capability, in combination with a sequencer that has a bunch of modifiers that can be used to build very complex, but organic feeling sequences. It samples loops in stereo, with two onboard mic's, or a stereo line in, and has a three track looper, with Ableton style audio looping, but any recorded loop, or imported sample, can also be loaded into the granular synth engine. Some people are calling it a "Tiny Digitakt" but part of that could be aesthetics... 😄
My little Behringer mixer is a bit hissy on quiet signals but is great for my synth zone. Instead of one monster mixer and a squiillion squids worth of cables to wire everything to it, I have a few small mixers dotted around.
@StephenMcLeod silly question for you, as I am new to this stuff: does the “stream to monitor” button I see in the USB section merely switch the monitor between the Streaming input and the main mix, or does it actually mix the Streaming input and the main mix into the monitor? I’m looking for an option where I can monitor all the channels together but keep one channel out of the actual main mix
Hi. Great video. I’m a busker, and I’m wondering if I can use this on the street using a USB power bank to power it. The reason I’m asking is a friend told me that powering it over USB won’t work because it has phantom power capability, and that USB isn’t able to support that amount of current. I don’t use a condenser mic, so if I don’t activate it would that mean it would be sufficient? I have the Behrininger Xenyx USB302 5, and it works that way, but it only has the capacity for either my mic, OR my acoustic guitar, and it doesn’t have any onboard FX. Cheers!

I wish they'd add the compressors onto the smaller mixers. I only need it for voiceover so having to go for the larger version is overkill. How does this compare with the Yamaha MG10xu, if you know?
@@StephenMcLeod That's fair, thanks for replying! I enjoyed listening to you - I used to live in Edinburgh and got a bit homesick. Your accent is lovely.
Can this be selected as an audio out device on a Mac by any chance, or does the audio from the computer still need to be routed back out and into a channel on the mixer?
I have a qx1202usb (so same as your old one I think but with fx and usb) the usb on mine only goes one direction at a time, which is kind of crap, don't mind the reverb. and it doesnt sit flat. But it works fine for years. Yet to find a reason to replace it.
When i put mic on ch.1 and guitar on ch.2. Does the stereo output brings out them separately on left and right? Or both signal on each output (vocal + guitar on right and vocal + guitar on the left output) ?
I have been looking at getting a basic mixer and i had my eye on one (or two) of the cheaper Behringer mixers. However after looking around, i have heard pretty bad reports about the cheaper Behringer mixers inputs failing after a short time and quite a few people saying that they loose at least a couple of channels. So just curious if you have had any issues with yours after using it under fire for so many years?
freaking love how you have the mpc 2500 mounted kind of upwards like that, i would like to do that with my mpc 1000 and my Korg EMX-1 just because I don't currently have room for them so i need to wall mount some stands or something. I hate having them piled under my desk and having to hook them up when i want to use them. I'm trying to set up my stuff and leave it set up tho i am watching this because i am looking for a mixer and have been eyeing buying your exact old one because i can find them for under a $100
100%. I never used to make music because everything had to be set up every time. Since I got a dedicated space and left things in such a way to make them easily accessible, I make waaay more now!
Hi , I need to buy an Audio Interface like Scarlet focusrite 2i2, mainly for recoding guitar tracks. Can I buy instead buy this instead. Do these have Pre-amps Thanks in advance.
Can you use this like an audio interface. Without a scarlet pro or similar? As well as EQ does it have echo and reverb? When recording Is there much latency?
There are no built in FX other than EQ. You should be able to use it as a standard interface, yes, but it's stereo input only from what I recall. Latency wise - I can't measure it in any meanginful way, but there shouldn't be anything notable for standard use.
I've been using a behringer xenyx 1002b for several years on my desk. I can't find them for sale anymore or I'd get another for a different room. As it is the price on mixers seems to have jumped quite a bit since the pandemic started.
That it only works as a stereo recorder over USB is sad. Currently looking for a mixer with multi track recording audio interface and this would have been the best value for money by far.
I'm not sure what the differences are in practice, but looks like the Q802 is more of a traditional mixer, and has a compressor built in for at least some of the channels. The 802s seems more geared towards streaming.
ooo I have one of these, its great for the ££ but I've discovered you can't use inputs 3/4 - 5/6 as four mono inputs if you are using "FX send" (say to a delay pedal ;) as the FX pot doubles as a mix between the signals (in 3/4 - 5/6). End result is you can't adjust the FX amount using the FX pot any more, FX is just on - on these channels. Bit of a w*nky comment.. sorry.. but its worth considering I think... as this reduces the inputs available? Ok, I' m off... btw.. anyone feel free to tell me i'm using it all wrong...
