Larry Miller's 67 points was not just a "then record high", it was the all time high point game in the history of the ABA. Doc got 63 once against San Diego, but it took him four overtimes to do it.

Fun to see the old times. For me especially Mike Lewis, being an old Pittsburgh guy.

Very cool... I was a huge ABA fan... I listened to the Cougars when they played the Colonels a lot on WHAS Louisville and also listened to the Spurs on WOAI in San Antonio. Thanks for posting!

The Carolina Cougars had three different homecourts in Raleigh,Greensboro and Charlotte. Bob Verga,Bob Mahaffey,Gene Littles,
Doug Moe, Larry Miller, Mack Calvin and Billy Cunningham were some of the popular
players who wore the Cougars uniform. After the Cougars moved to St.
Louis in 1974, there would be no pro basketball in the Carolinas until
1988, when the Charlotte Hornets premiered in the NBA.

armory brunot jr yes but cougars must be part of nba but 1974 they beacame st louis spirits, and charlottle loose basketball team, yes that s also one of the main reason why cougars left carolina , no crowd in arena, small arena and they play like regional franchise.

I wish there was more footage of the Cougars available online. I would love to watch some full games like I do with original Charlotte Hornets games.

I am an original ABA fan, This is great footage, almost all of which I am seeing for the first time. It's a shame that Billy Cunningham was injured for most of his second season with the team. As the end of this video was approaching, I was thinking exactly what was said: If the ownership would have held on for another two seasons, the Cougars would be in the NBA today.
Thanks a million for posting this video. All videos are appreciated by long-time ABA fans and, I hope, younger fans with an appreciation of pro basketball history.

Thank you so much for watching and enjoying! I loved the ABA as well, the Dallas Chaparrals were my favorite team as a kid. Share with anyone who might like the vintage memories. Again thank you! GK

San Diego Conquistador fan here -- the few seasons San Diego had the ABA were the best. I was growing up watching visiting teams with guys like Jumping Joe Caldwell, George McGinnis, Willie Wise and on and on from the front row in SD....Man that was fun.

Hey there, thank you for watching the Cougars story. I'm a life long ABA fan having grown up with the Dallas Chaparrals. I really enjoyed putting this story together and seeing film, like you, that took me back to my childhood. If you know of any other ABA fans, let them know. Again, thank you. Greg K

Yes the Q's! I actually have several intact game tickets from a Chaps game with the Q's back in 1973. I picked them up off the floor in the stands when the game was over. Wilt was the coach at the time. Awesome stuff.

Greg - my dad and I would go to San Diego State University's Peterson Gym -- seriously the size of a high school gym - the first year the Conquistadors played. We would park on the surface street, walk into the gym, catch the game, and leave. No traffic, no frills, nothing. Just hoops. The year Wilt "coached" they played at Golden Hall which was really a convention center - if memory serves half of the "hall" was a long curtain which separated the large space and seats were on just one side. Finally they made it big time playing in the San Diego Sports Arena, just long enough to fold...and become the Sails for a portion of a season before they too folded. I would give ANYTHING to have my Conquistador pennant...it was hung in my room and with many other souvenirs was tossed out or given away by mom...thanks mom! :)

Actually the ABL conceived the 3 point shot. The EBL and NABL adopted it prior to the ABA's existence. The tri colored basketball was an ABA original.

Hey Jim, thank you for watching... I did this documentary in 2004 and it's bugged me since, that I made that mistake about the 3-point shot. I knew of the ABL using it but it didn't register at the time. I grew up in Dallas and loved the Chaparrals as a kid, so I took putting it together seriously. I appreciate you catching it and knowing your stuff.

The 3 point shot started in the American Basketball League (1961-1962) before the ABA (1967-1976) had it.
