Querido Amigo , gracias por compartir tu emoción. Que si The Police vino a Argentina ??

The Police played in Argentina in 1980, just a few blocks from Gustavo’s home in the neighbourhood of Villa Ortuzar, in Buenos Aires. Also, Gustavo and Andy Summers (The Police bassist) remade in Spanish one of The Police songs (Bring me the night).

Police's discography arrived early in Argentina. post-dictatorship bands were influenced by the New Wave and the Police was a great reference in Soda Stereo.

dear reacter: please no more soda!!!. I have an "sobredosis" (overdose) of soda. So much musical beauty is driving me crazy. I've already asked you before, but you insist. Stop!!!!
This is from their 1984 debut album. Which Gustavo admits it was partly influenced by the police. Btw, Gustavo later played with the police's Andy Summers in a police tribute album in spanish. There's video of their collaboration here on youtube.
Hi D, i grew up listening to Soda and was my favorite band in my teen years. I am from Colombia and we loved Soda over here. I can't listen to their music without getting all teary eyes, make me remember my friends, my girlfriends having parties and getting crazy with their music. Probably some of the best memories of my life. Thanks Soda Stereo, thanks Argentina for giving us such amazing band. Great reaction buddy
Andy Summers and Gustavo Cerati recorded a song together. A Spanish version of Bring on the Night from The Police. You must check it out. There's video footage. By the way on the drums was the drummer of drummers Vinnie Colaiuta. It was unbelievable.

Soda Stereo joined the New Wave music movement of the 80s. You are absolutely right, D. You'll hear influences definitely from the Police, but also from the Cure, U2, even some punk (the Clash) and Ska. Later, more elaborated work, became also influenced by the earlier progressive and psychodelic rock era from the 70s, so there you will hear a style also reminiscent to Yes, Genesis, and Pink Floyd. Even with these clear influences, Gustavo Cerati was at the front line of music experimentation, always adopting the latest gadgets, and very aware of sound style trends from Europe and the US. Gustavo's perfectionism, hard work, polirythm composition, and overall creative genius produced a sound unique to himself, even aside from his unmistakable voice.
