  • My twin trunk Dwarf Alberta Spruce gets a root pruning... More like root amputation... That's the bravest I've ever been.

Dr. Marysol. You got style. You got class. Tackling those roots was a positive approach. Not afraid to do the Big Cut. Excellent. Simply superb!!! Tree should grow nicely for you once the roots recover.

Thank you Marysol! I managed to aquire 5 dwarf Alberta Spruce last year in the half dead half off pile. Little did I know that they are notorious for springback....they just don't take to wiring much. So clip and grow it is for most of them. Because I have not much to lose, I'm going to leave the wire on the main trunk of the last one and watch the tree engulf it. I will follow your tree with interest!

Dr. Marysol has to do some consultation with Dr. Nigel on tackling this root system. But I think the good doctor can perform the surgery to this patient.

Nice massive root system minus the Dandelion roots.

Just a thought. What about a small saw to help you with that thick root? They have mini saws at the Home Depot.

No See Ums are really a pain. You need a small fan to keep them away.

Yes a small fan, an engine off one of those giant airplanes would be perfect! Throw some heat too! Keep the bugs out of the whole yard! Actually, we are looking into the propane mosquito traps. Many farmers use them to help keep the biting bugs off the horses and cattle.

Dollar tree. Get yourself a plastic measuring cup to help you with putting the soil in the pot. Just a thought.

I usually have a plastic container in there to scoop with. I forgot to toss it back in both times I mixed soil! Haha!

Will you be putting some rocks around the tree so that with the small root system the wind does not move the tree around until the roots get established? I think it would work for a couple weeks or a month.

I will keep them in the trailer for a while, move them outside in the evenings and cloudy days for the first while. That seems to work good.

Dandelion weed in the pot. Leaves good for a salad.

Yes! The dandelions are huge this year with all the rain! They aren't as bitter with lots of water, so sometimes I just dip the leaves in salad dressing and eat them as is.
