Trying Something New: A Stitch-Along as a Diamond Painting! "Night of the Frost Dragon" Mystery

Hello friends!
I have a brand new project to share with you today and I'm excited to unbox the materials with you, as well as share about all the details! For awhile, I've been really interested in the concept of a "SAL" (Stitch-A-Long), especially ones that have a mystery component. While I'm not a stitcher, I thought it would be so neat to try doing a SAL... but as a diamond painting!
This particular chart and artist jumped out at me immediately - the style, themes, and characters are SO me. The artist is "Flossy Fox Shop (Andrea)" and the name of this mystery SAL is "Night of the Frost Dragon." I did contact Flossy Fox Shop ahead of time to inquire if there would be any backstitching or specialty stitches (since those wouldn't really translate to diamond painting form) and they kindly responded that this chart wouldn't feature either. I highly recommend that if you're looking at trying out a mystery SAL as a diamond painting, contact the artist/shop owner first to check on this so you aren't disappointed after you've already started your project.
I purchased my canvas and drills from Jaded Gem Shop, and was able to just send over the size and color list for the shop to do all the calculations and work to make sure I had the right canvas size and drills.
This SAL runs through April 2025, but I believe you can jump in at any time. I'll be sharing updates and learnings as we go along, and I can't wait to get started when the first drop happens on Sept. 10th!

As a seasoned cross stitcher, it was really cute to listen to you explain SAL's to non stitchers. :]
From my experience in other SAL's, once the designer has shared the released portion of the pattern upon the release, you're good to show it. The mystery gets revealed over time, and the designers usually share what those are on their social medias on the release days. If that makes sense. :]

This is a great idea, and seems quite manageable for those toying with the idea of getting into cross-stitch conversions. I'm not sure I'm brave enough yet, though 🤭

I've recently transitioned to cross stitch after being a diamond painter for many years and I love doing stich-alongs. My only concern is the background color. Since this stitch-along isn't a full coverage piece, you may need to leave some blank squares untouched at the end of part 1, 2 3 etc. Otherwise you'll end up unpicking background drills and replacing them with coloured drills later. To ensure that the canvas remains sticky, it may be worthwhile looking at options for covering up these blank squares throughout the project. E.g. Washi tape, release paper. I hope that makes sense.

As a cross stitcher, love doing stitch alongs. I love the grid. That’s how “we” work it. I think you’ll be fine. You are right, no pattern but anything public is fine. To fun for a DP

I also cross-stitch and would love to work on this, especially because its is cross stitch. you mentioned Pattern Keeper on your Fire tablet, I thought it was only available only on a Samsung tablet, but glad that it is available on the fire tablet. I'm a new diamond painter but I love this concept. Would you recommend this for a beginner. It may be a little too adventurous. I have been a cross stitcher years ago

So..... If I see a cross stitch on HAED, can jade convert that to a diamond painting? There is a Dona gelsinger image of the little drummer boy, but I don't know how to go about getting or making it a dp. 🧐🤔🥴

Hi Katie, this sounds fun. But, I was never able to figure out cross-stitch. Right now my Dictator Personal assistant says anything I purchase will go to the Goodwill.

Katie, I have a xstitch pattern I want to covert to a diamond painting. It is a partial, so I am trying to figure out how to center it on the canvas. I work from the upper right corner across and down, so there will be quite a bit of background to fill in before I get to the image. Any tips on how to figure out how center the image on the canvas?
