@@Howie57 Thanks for watching. Depending on the dishwasher design, it could also be the internal pump not producing as much water pressure as it should causing the lower spray arm to spin lower and slower than it should and tap on the salt filler cap as it turns.
Maybe. But normally it's the rubber seal fitted onto the top-tray inlet spigot which engages with its hole when pressed against the inside of the dishwasher. Over the years, I've seen that there seal missing or split which means little or no water pressure is getting into the top spinner and it doesn't spin fast enough, or, at all! Brand new dishwasher knocking and warranty repair guy came and replays that same part, still knocking. We think its the heater element that its hitting on. I witnessed the guy press down on the heater element but it didn't budge. Any ideas?
Not sure exactly what you mean but fit a new arm and see how it goes. Check the arm housing for any cracks because that might cause it to spin off-centre and hit things it would normally avoid during spinning. Thanks for watching @HowToBloke 👍

Water pump pressure? Which should elevate the spinner so that it spins without any contact/friction. Or, a protruding salt dispenser cap.
Or, something protruding below the bottom tray or cutlery rack?
My Bosch lower arm is hitting the back plastic that runs down the back. I'll get a new arm.
