Very cool idea for your channel to give options to replicate mod items like this. Many newcomers to the game now have an option to avoid mods with a little work. One idea I've done to avoid that gap at the top floor is reverse build the stairs once you got that top floor placed. You start by sinking in the first base piece enough so when you get to the top, Snap the ladder on the top floor level and work your way back down. Then your bottom ladder will snap into the ground.
When I was building at Zimonja I often enjoyed taking a large scaffolding structure and sticking it a little closer to that raider down below. Then I would build off the structure to make my own guard tower, with turrets that could rain death from above.
Good stuff as usual, couple of tips for the initial snapping of the stairs, the barn/warehouse floors will snap to atrium floors, which in turn happily snap either on top of or to the side of the vault tower sections, so you are able to snap the stairs to the correct alignment. Also those stairs in Outpost Zimoja must be a glitch as they occur poth on Playstation and PC. And finally it is possible to store those institute transporter parts, having just done so on my most recent run through.
I made a watchtower when I was first getting into building in F4. This was pre-Skooled Zone days. I made it out of those blue utility stair railing sets. Man, it was janky, lol. Glad Paul is here to give us some great ideas.
Love it, first time posting but always love your videos and had so many hours (still counting) of building fun with everything I've learned from you. 👍
If you build the stairs from the top down, they will snap in properly. You could use the two floors with the stairs that connect them in the wood section, you can use that to replace the fifth level. Then you can build the tower all the way around. 😊👍
Gods alive I love that banjo opening!! brings me back to the good ole days of country music. That stair at Zimonja is not a bug. It is entirely unscrappable for some reason. Could disable it with console though most likely. Interesting fact as well, Zimonja has one of the highest build ceilings of all possible settlement locations, including DLCs. And I'm pretty sure its the highest in vanilla at 18-19 tiles high. Using one of the original tile sets of course, not the barn or warehouse sets as those are much taller than the base sets
I love watch towers. I wish there were an add on to "We are the Minutemen" mod that added watch towers throughout the commonwealth to help protect caravaners, provisioners and other travelers. It feels like this would be lore friendly too. As you acquire more settlements, the towers grow in 3 ways: height, armaments and personnel quantity/quality. Side with the Brotherhood watch as there is comradery between the 2 factions grow.
You can snap and match around, some Vault floors stick to the warehouse floors others to the concrete, wood or scaffolding floors. With that you can line down almost everything in clipable positions. It's not really quicker but if you lack the fine motor skills or just simply hate eyeballing stuff you can work around that.
For any one intrested you can put the three institute items in more than one settlement (granted there are a few settlements you can not build them in). You just need to do it before actually traveling to the institute (tom and Desdemona will just move to the last location they were built). I have included these items in many of my settlements. I do "think" that they can be stored and then placed out later. Granted I have only done this before traveling to the institute. I have not tested this after traveling to the institute, so the stored items might go away. However any that are still placed will remain.
Hey! I love the videos so much!!! I just discovered this channel from the pillar glitch deep dive, and I’m so glad you are still adding to the series so I’m not too late!! I was wondering if you do walkthroughs of builds in each settlement?
It wouldn't necessarily look exactly like the mod version due to being a wider 'shack' shape, but you could have the stairs come up in the middle of the floor by making the 'shack' portion a 5x5 or a 7x7 shape instead of a 3x3 shape. Then, the stairs would still be positioned next to the vault-tec support element, but there would be another floor/wall to the outside of the stairs on the way up. Then you could have a walkway loop all around the shack portion (and could position railings on the inside to keep from falling into the steps by accident). i.e. a 5x5 floor plan wouldn't be able to have a fully square warehouse, due to the stairs needing to come up - where X is a wall/roof piece from the wood section that is the exterior walkway; H is where the stairs come up, C is the central support column location to build everything on/around, and U is the 'warehouse' portion of the shack X X X X X X U U U X X H C U X X U U U X X X X X X A 7x7 arrangement would be better, although a lot wider than the mod image. Again, the floor plan is where X is a wall/roof piece from the wood section that is the exterior walkway; H is where the stairs come up, and U is the 'warehouse' portion of the shack X X X X X X X X U U U U U X X U U U U U X X U H C U U X X U U U U U X X U U U U U X X X X X X X X
@@sofiablomquist8394 I'd forgot what I did and went and checked I put small scaff with a turret in front of it. its one of those things that make you wonder WTF Bethesda game testers actually do or if its just a case their programmers just don't care. I work in industrial control systems and we have to check and test and verify and debug EVERY item in every line of code. And we can't just do a patch either. patches have to be checked, tested, verified and debugged. A $50 game is one thing. A few $Million of hardware is something else and a few $Billion of hardware is another matter entirely.
When building similar structures I will try to snap a couple small floor pieces to the main structure, scrap/store one and then snap stairs to the other. (Place the big center piece, snap a small floor piece to that sticking out from the corner and then snapping staircases to that.
One of the mods on the Playstation side that was lost was Kane's Item Sorting (or something close to that). That mod was one of my must-haves just because I didn't have to go scrounging around for, say, one specific chem just because it happened to start with a letter that resulted in it being surrounded by the likes of junk or quest items.Want a chem? All chems are together thanks to the (Chem) prefix. Want a med such as a stimpak? Those are also all grouped thanks to the (Med) prefix. Alphabetical order can only carry you so far, y'know? I'm still bummed out to have lost it. Not to mention that its removal actually caused Mod Menu to completely break, forcing me to delete and reinstall the game just to regain access to Mod Menu. (Yes, I had to re-gather all the mods I had on the game, as well.)
If you dont want to build the stairs from the top down just snap a floor panel to the first level of the tower then add the corner of the stairs then just remove that floor and the corner will stay in place
It's easier to build the the stack then add the small platform from the top and snap stairs from there walking to the bottom. That way you don't have to line it up. Then group select the whole thing and sink it if the the bottom stairs doesn't quite touch the ground
Could you not snap floors to the the strut towers, and have snapped in corners that the stairs would snap to and make a clean connection to floor on the top level without the odd stair overlapping?
You could have made the observation deck 2 squares wide instead of one square wide. That would have allowed for you to have the stairs come up and have a floor going around the outside of it.
Awesome video. I still think you’d enjoy Elden Ring. Not necessarily for video content but just for your own pleasure. It’s a masterpiece of an RPG and it’s extremely challenging. But if I can beat it, anyone can.

That pesky wooden stairway is bugged. Has the incorrect tags on it, I think. If the delete or remove everything mod works, I take it out that way.
