Hello, is it necessary to remove the oil filter first, or remove the drain plug and wait until the oil has finished draining first, or is it no different?
There is no difference which comes first. If you want to finish faster I would: Remove the drain bolt for the oil As it’s draining I would replace the filter. Once that is finished the oil should just be about done draining and you can put the plug back in.
Yeah there is nothing wrong with trying to get as much out as possible. But from my experience the amount of “old” engine oil left inside the engine far surpasses what extra oil will come out by letting it drain for extended periods of time. Everything will never come out. I have taken apart a BMW N63TU engine down to just the block and pistons. I must of had about 2 quarts of oil drain out as I was removing all the components and flipping the engine upside down and back up. It’s crazy how much oil is still left inside
@@friendlymechanic9778 I agree with you that the oil inside the engine will not completely disappear during the draining. This is a certainty of course, but I did not think that much would remain inside the engine!! Does this apply to all engines, including Ford engines?

In general, I do not apply the oil plug until the oil has dripping and not before, this usually takes about 15 minutes

I can’t say for Ford engines since I haven’t looked myself. But I wouldn’t be surprised if it was the same.
