- Compilation of pics/videos, from our 2001 KB 2.6H powered Ford Lightning project, which was assembled in 2009. The truck makes in excess of 700hp, and lays down 630whp on a very low 14.5psi, on 93 octane fuel. While we've never cranked it up, it is very capable of making over 800hp on C16/high boost. The credit goes to Kenne Bell, and JLP Racing, for the excellent head/blower package..

This is almost the exact same set up i have. Fully built with KB and JLP Sheet metal but going on my Harley. Can't wait to see what she makes.

Very nice!! I had plans for a KB on my L but that ended when I got rear ended! Had thoughts of a very similar combo like this one actually. Great job and sick truck.

You've got a long road to travel.. It took me the better part of 8 months, and about 20 grand to build this thing.. And that's with me doing all the labor. :)
@nasty03L I built it myself.. I used OBX headers, but, welded up 3" collectors on them. From there, on back, I used dual 3" mandrel bends, with a set of catco high flow cats, into a Magnaflow dual in/out X muffler (has a x built inside). That's about it.. Works great, and sounds amazing. I've had people tell me that my truck sounds like a pissed off dog coming down the highway when I get on it. :)

I never knew the 2.6 KB was able to make power like this. I guess in this case a bigger blower isn't always better. I was looking into bigger whipples but every one in the lightning community seems to prefer this one.

Yeah.. I have to say that the combination of JLP's powerflow intake, and KB's 2.6H, along with JL's heads/cams, make for a PERFECT combination to make some serious power. You couldn't ask for a better looking curve..

@cas12326 This truck was built by myself, and a few buddies.. I purchased the parts, and assembled everything in my shop.
@crislt1 Yeah, unfortunately, it's a matter of the PCM not being fast enough to keep up. In some ways, it actually helps, though.. because you wouldn't want it short shifting into another gear when there is wheelspin. It would bog at some point. On slicks/drag radials it doesn't really happen.

How much horse do u think I'd be pushing out of a 351 w eagle rotating assembly roller rocker edlebrock high rise intake and like a 650 700 carb pro charged with I can't remember but believe trick flow 160cc heads
The Lightning has the same trans as the F250.. It's a 4R100, and it's PLENTY strong. I've got a friend locally that has a T56 swap in his L.. But, honestly, it kinda kills the fun. This truck is at it's best with the auto trans.
What is he doing with the red truck?
There's footage from Slidell in the video.. but, the truck is from Houma. I sold it to a guy in Kenner, who also has a Blue 04 Lightning.

thanks man i also have obx headers, was that the exhaust when you were doing fly bys? it just sounds nasty man, is it turned down or is it out the side? and also which magna flow is it im seriously going to do the same you did man

@nasty03L Yeah, just cut the collectors back until it's 3" in diameter, then, weld a 3" v-band flange to it. From there, just use 3" 90 degree mandrel bends and straight tubing. The muffler is a Magnaflow 12469 . That's the part number, so just search for it on Google, and you'll find it. It's like 100 bucks or so.. I just had turn downs under the truck. For your cats, search Ebay item number 220548403004 . That's it.. :) The exhaust you hear in the video is exactly what I just listed.

@wellgodamn haha.. I hear ya. ;) It's my buddy's truck. I sold my '08 F250 when I got rid of my Donzi 30zf. I'm not a "either/or" fan, though. I've owned both. I just sold my G8 GT for a new '11 GT. :)
may i ask about the exhaust system? im currently doing a kb 2.6 build on my 03L and i just love the way it sounds man, just let me know i want mine to sound like that, and nice ride man its clean along with the black rims it really sets it off, good numbers too man, JLP knows there lightnings but just let me know on the exhaust

Think the GT40 motor is drysumped too from the factory, no? I thought the 5.4 Lightning motor was Al?

Jive.. I'm on Stangnet. I have a maroon 04 GT, and I know your car well. :) I'm building a Teksid based 2 valve, with MHS heads, 12:1 C/R, and CMS stage 3's. Never built a N/A 2 valve, so I want to give it a try. :)

@crislt1 No, it doesn't.. You can't prevent that from happening in some situations. The factory PCM isn't fast enough to keep it from banging the limiter when there's massive wheelspin from 1st-2nd. People have the same trouble with the 4R70/75 in the 99-04 Mustang, and it's one of the biggest reasons that you try to find a Mach 1 automatic ECU. It had the faster processor, and could better manage the shifts.

If you did all of the work yourself? The only thing that I outsourced was the machine work for the block, and the transmission build. Everything else was built in house. I spent around 18K when it was all said/done.
@rrdtogo I never did.. I sold the truck before before I had a chance to finish the suspension/cage, etc.. :(

I was looking for one. apparently they dont come with the DOHC Ford GT motor like i thought it did.. I still want one though.. but a harley davidson cuz i wants the 4 doors!
Lightnings are SOHC unless the owner decides to go 4v which very seldom happens due to cost.

No.. the Ford GT has a 4 valve, aluminum block 5.4. This is a iron block 5.4 with SOHC heads.

Sounds like a heavy miss on acceleration ! Like its going lean AKA starving for fuel.
Check your fuel pressure. What size fuel injectors are on your L , Factory fuel injectors are 45lbs You should have at least 60lb injectors now. Save yourself an engine Check it out.

stock fuel pump sucks. i had to change mine !
