Bizarrely Chaotic Yet All Wondrous.

Hey, New Subscriber, I came from your show with Northern Exile I watched today which was VERY cool and made me interested in wathcing your channel. It's cool that you came up with this official book and mechanics! Great work! In a long running campaign I ran, one of my PCs from another campaign (a level 20 bard) bought a bar which seemed to be a pretty low-class Dive bar kind of place but happened to have some of the most high-class, highly sought after Courtesans in the city. Thanks to another level 20 former PC turned NPC who was a mage who kept them healthy and always looking high elven beautiful though his magic. these Courtesans became some VERY good source for rumors and information about some of the most powerful people in the city. It was fun to be able to let my PCs incorporate some of their old characters who had out leveled being PC's back into the game, I even let them play the character from time to time if I was not using them as a tool for setting up potential hooks. Any of my group was more than capable of playing multiple characters as we also played Wraith from White Wolf, and they were all very good at playing each other's shadows. I look forward to checking out this resource someday, it sounds very interesting! I wish I had had your book to give my Courtesans more personality though that would have been very cool and very useful.
I'm really looking forward to the KS. These days, a non-woke supplement for RPG is rare. Please mail it to Canada as a game, not a book; otherwise, we will have to pay an importation fee.
0-6 hostile 7-8 suspicious on 2d6 is wild. There are 72% that an average joe would get negative treatment from people of this brothel doing nothing wrong. With 41.7% are them being *hostile*. Who are their customer? Charismatic folk won't have to pay for their service and average joe would be threat like shit. All those numbers has to be 2 lower for it to even *begin* to make sense. With 58.3% of getting 'eh' service or better, 33.3% of feeling unwelcome, and only 8.3% for them to have extreme reaction like hostile or friendly. Equal chance of friendly and hostile... Your world as is has 6 times higher chance for these people to spit in your face than being friendly with you.
Addition and subtraction are easy. All modifiers make sense and there is a summary table with all of them listed. And yes. Balance is boring. Player agency with consequences in a world that feels real is far more fun and interesting than constantly grinding against monster encounters that are designed to be just challenging enough to overcome. Play test feedback has been *extremely* positive (again, not balanced)
@@blacklodgegames If you want realism, do you get rid of magic? Magic isn't realistic at all. Better modify HP too, because realistically you take a sword stab and you're dead. Play the way you want, but this just seems like excess pointless busy work for the DM to me.

@AngelusNielson there is a difference between feeling real and being realistic. A fantasy world can feel real but still be fantastic. And even a level 1 shadowdark adventurer is going to be heartier than your average commoner.

Game mechanics are the rules and procedures that guide the player and the game's response to the player's actions. Random tables are one of many such procedures that determine how the world responds to the player's actions.
As a player, this concept has me crazy excited. As a person with friends in the sex work industry, the language used in the promo materials and videos (“the catty and mercurial nature of the prostitutes…both the whores and the patrons love to gossip…”) my god, there is no nuance or care here.l for perpetuating harmful stereotypes. Sex workers, who are legitimate workers, face untold discrimination irl. The kind of language in your promos and kickstarter adds to stigmatizing this work. You know who talked about prostitutes well? Critical role, in talking about Jester’s mom in campaign two. No “whores,” no “Ladies of Whatever,” they were actual legitimate business people, and didn’t resort to stereotypes like whores = women = women be gossiping! I’ll support TTRPG creators who can to it without the side of misogyny, thanks. I’m really sad, because I was so hopeful! “Painted strumpets?” Really?
