After watching scores of videos coming out of China of the overcrowded hospitals, huge lines of cars with dead bodies trying to get them cremated, and China building huge crematoriums all over the country, I believe that the world is going to look back on 2020 as the good old days. Which news / videos you were watching? If they are from Wion, Gravitas, certain western media including Epoch Times & China in Focus, then I suggest you can just take them with a pinch of salt. Why? Because they are lying most of the times if not all the times.

I am a Chinese literally living in China, from what I am experiencing and watching, things may appear not that dramatic as many media have predicted. And I am looking forward to the 2023.

@@jeffforsythe9514 Due to the enormous population of China, the infection number is unacceptable by other countries. But the essential thing is the death rate doesn't rise. My family have been infected, including my 80-year-old grandma and they've recovered and said it's just like a severe cold. Now China has gone through the infection peak, the economy and daily life are backing on track. In the long run, that is what should be expected.

The US has had about 100 million infected and about a million dead. Chinese numbers are higher, and only getting worse. If you look objectively at any of the signs coming from China rn, this is obvious. The US is largely beyond this sort of mass infection because of a gradual opening policy, natural immunity, and more effective vaccines. What more do you want to hear?

COVID isn't a problem in the US. Most vulnerable people have already died. We don't wear masks and have had contracted the virus at least once. Nevertheless, we don't care and don't even tested anymore.

But to say that zero covid in China made all those Chinese people too immunologically naive is, well... naive. The one consistent thing we have seen is that adhering to respiratory hygiene practices is associated with fewer and milder infections, while carelessness and superspreading leads to severity. The reason would probably be the inoculus. Consider that the China spike is the result of multiple co-circulating variants. People keep praising the vaccines used in America, but what could they be doing that multiple co-circulating variants are not also doing to boost immune responses? I'm afraid the answer is "practically nothing" and what we see is simply a maturation of the virus' ability to infect more and more frequently and repeatedly. If I'm right, then the Chinese situation will spread everywhere so I hope you're the one who's right.
@@duffsmith8692 While I would argue that much of this chaos is due to the chinese government's insistence on locking people up and preventing natural immunity, their failure to develop or plan adequate systems to accommodate more cases, and their weak vaccine, I agree with your general point. If this variety comes to the US, I can only hope our strategy proves more effective.

Sorry the XBB1.5 variant didn't originate in China but elsewhere. So it is puzzling why the media is only worried about new variants emerging from China but the most infectious variants have already emerged from elsewhere.
@@seekingtruth714 Herd immunity and vaccine do not prevent variants. mRNA COVID vaccines don't stop the virus transmission, it only prevents hospitalization. But the variants arise from people getting infected by the virus. So while the media is worrying about the virus mutating in China, the virus is already spreading and mutating wildly in the rest of the world among the other 6.5 billion people out there.
@@seekingtruth714 The more virus spreads, the more it mutates. But mRNA vaccine doesn't stop virus transmission, it only reduces the chance of hospitalization. COVID immunity meanwhile wanes after 3 months. This means the virus has been spreading and mutating all over the world, all this time. The case in point is the XBB1.5 variant which was first found in India and now ripping havocs in the USA and Japan. The whole world is the breeding ground, not just China. You explain to me, if the mRNA vaccine and herd immunity can prevent the emergence of variants, then how come all known variants, such as the super infectious XBB 1.5 and BA 5, BA7 and so on, are all coming from countries that use the mRNA vaccines and already have herd immunity?
Close to 2 million deaths in USA and estimated 4.7 million deaths in India in the last two years. Most of those deaths could have been prevented if governments in these countries prioritize people's lives over economy like China.

I've lived in China for 10 years, even my Chinese friends said in the end zero Covid was nothing to do with 'Saving lives', it was more to do with keeping the virus under control and prevent backlash against the government. You can aim for heard immunity, or you can lockdown continuously. Eventually, you are delaying the inevitable with constant lockdowns.

Can you explain odious debt. Ukraine was able to use this to dissovle debt taken by the former Ukrainian president from Russian. A Nov 2021 ruling in a UK court said the debt was from corruption and the Ukrainian government did not have to pay it back. Why is this law not applied to countries in Africa or Sri Lanka? Can this law be used to limit how China lends moneys to corrupt leaders?
Ukraine is at war with Russia. It would be strange if their honored their debts to a country actively invading them. If China invades Sri Lanka, I would expect Sri Lanka’s debt to China to be invalidated as well.

The crazy part is is that we’ve seen movies that have demonstrated the exact same thing, and the only way to prevent infection is to isolate. But for some stupid reason western countries were extremely slow to act and that’s why it became so insane. I could still get a flight from wuhan in March 2020.
