Really, that is going to be nuts in your car, been watching your channel for a while mate. 👍🏼 You don't hang about on track in that thing and it's an 8V😮 what plans do you have gearbox wise?
@@RestoDesignsnando oh really! Brill! Yeah it should be a good engine! Its a 2.1 tsr bottom end, kr head which has had loads of work. Ive no history on the engine other than an old clubgti thread. So ill be stripping it and rebuilding! Planning on using my 8v 020 box…. See if it holds up 🥴… if it does go then ill go 02a 👍🏼
@@Jims_racing Sounds like a great engine package James, I only ask about the gearbox because I know you track it, 020 aka "a box of chocolate's" 🙏🏼 lol I say that, but back in the day my test bed ABF Eaton 230ps had the standard 2Y 16V box and that lasted, but didn't track that, any plans for videos on that build James?
@@RestoDesignsnando yep i know they are not the strongest!! Making a video might be a nice idea actually! The only thing is it wont be very informative as its my first engine build so i wont have much in-depth knowledge!

Hi,after removing of crank trigger wheel how you will get crank position signal, also how you solve the issue with crankcase breather? Can I also use by the same way a Golf 2 1.6 td engine block and turn it to an 1.8 16v KR ?
Yep, them crank pullies are out of stock from 2019 - even the local VW dealer said they most likely will never make more. Mine had a broken outside edge and luckily I knew a guy parting out an ABF and bought his. Question:is it known which year car is this 1.9D block from? Reason I'm asking is we own a 93 1.9D CL and it has the stock oil cooler and even tho it had aftermarket trailer hitch added later I doubt that cooler was fitted also.
Yep I haven't needed one in years, even after market ones seem to be In short supply, found a German site that makes them in stainless,💰 I got the 1Y D block bare with only the crank caps, the ABF block also came without the oil filter housing, so was given this one by a friend, it's off a 1.6 GT 101ps, they came with no cooler.
Cool project and awesome progress. Your using a 1.9 pd bottom end with abf head. What pistons and rods did you go for? Also would you be able to turbo this kind of set up? Thanks
Thank you mate, I using a 1.9 D block, 1Y engine code, crank ABF, Rods Scat ABF and pistons wossner ABF, all the oil pump and shaft/gears are also ABF, only thing that isn't is the block itself due to the ABF block having had some hand drill horning, no cross-hatch pattern and over did it at the top of the block I'm guessing to remove than small lip. Due to the limited stock of ABF blocks here, I had the idea of using a 1.9D block from an early mk3, same block height as the ABF and bore is 79.5 Vs ABF 82.5, so had the 1.9D taken to a fresh ABF 82.5👍🏼 the block looks stronger and has m12 head bolts as standard, so if you're in the market for a 600+ 16v this could be an idea.
Yes or have both, the water one has a duel function, one to try to keep the oil cooler and one to warm up the oil sooner from cold as the water heats up faster than the oil normally does.
That tap with the hammer to remove the trigger wheel bolts saved me.
👍🏼 I do like a little hammer action 🤣 all jokers aside, a good hit on the crank pulley bolts work well also 👍🏼
I needed these vids in 08. Gud vid.
All my respect sir 😎
Great bit of info! Im just about to start building a 2.1 abf at the moment. Similar cam set up, ITBs 👍🏼

Mal posso esperar que acabe 💪
Do you have the part number or pics of the alternator clutch type pulley that you used?
Unfortunately not to hand, I'll have to have a look, I think it was off a mk4 1.9 tdi but not 100%

I remember in one of the other videos him saying that the D block came bare, so I'm taking it he got that oil filter housing from another block.

In the UK the mk3 diesel block is number 1y or 1z crank 95.5mm
I’m sorry I just wish to know that is the block a normal mk1 1.3 you re-sized it to 2.0 or is a straight 2.0 block ?🙏
A 1.9D block with 2.0 ABF crank and block taken from 79.5mm to std ABf 82.5mm bore.
