Agreed. I'm a Victorinox addict, and they will always be my go-to when it comes to multi function knives. But this is a neat piece, and I appreciate the look at it! Cheers, buddy!

    Hey Slippy,
Thanks for giving us a look at this one👍🏻
Interesting alternative but, to me, falls short of competing with the Vic. Let’s face it they’re a hard act to follow.
Slightly off on a tangent…. Would love to see Victorinox offer some premium versions with upgrade materials and maybe try not to change things too much (if it ain’t broke don’t try and fix it 😀)
Appreciate your time in putting these videos out brother, thanks 😎👍🏻

Excellent look at a Vic alternative. Thanks! I like the color. Also the shorter knife with all those features.

Agree. Especially the N690Co, which is one of the best steels available. Much better than the steel used by Victorinox. Also like the Ti scales. Also, M390 is virtually identical to N690Co. Both steels are fantastic latest gen.

This is a pretty cool like SAK inspired knife, I'm sold that its a replacement to a Victorinox but at least it's another option for those who want something in more premium materials. Thanks for sharing and Cheers!

I have the Vulpis Titanium just with the blade now in my hands, and waiting for the bigger knife … The 1 layer knife is much, much better than SAK! I am actually blown away. Let’s see how the bigger knifes look like - perhaps you had a B quality knife from second market.

@@SlipjointSawyer That’s a pity - so far, I only received great quality from Fox knives, both with folders and with fixed knives. I also saw some German UA-camrs with Vulpis knives, and they were great quality as well - strange. But anyway, thanks for the warning. 👍

Great video Slippy. I picked this one up a couple months back and my F&F is even worse, the saw blade is off centered so it misses its slot entirely when you close it and can only be put back in its slot by manually pushing it back into place before closing it. Otherwise a cool tool but no where near the quality of Victorinox. Thanks for sharing!!

Thanks for the review, I bought one in orange about a week ago and tried to find a review in english no luck until yours.
I don’t know if you are aware they come in a two layer, three layer with ether scissors or saw. and the four layer that you have.
I have a different view of the knife I think of it as a cute little jewel and fun addition to my multi tool knife collection.
I don’t see it as competition with Victorinox but fitting in to a unique niche. I also don’t think there will be a lot of them
sold making the Vulpis a somewhat rare conversation piece. For it’s size it works pretty well, the diminutive saw cuts
very efficiently. If I planned to actually use the knife on any regular basis it would make a nice little pocketable carving tool,
with the saw cutting notches or cutting a small branch for cooking over a camp fire. In reality it would never compete with
larger multi tool knives just as the 58mm Victorinox doesn’t challenge the 91mm work horses of there line.

Yeah it's an interesting knife for sure and I've seen all the different layered ones! For me it's just too much money for what it is, luckily I found this one second hand at only £30

@@SlipjointSawyer Yes that was a steal of a price.👍 If you like little curiosities check out
Armament Systems and Procedures < or ASP, they make a little knife about the size of a Vic. “Classic,”
it’s the ASP Inc. Edge (model) knife. It includes a handcuff key, small screwdriver and two small blades. One
of the blades is serrated & has a liner lock. There are some UA-cam reviews available. With it you will be
all set for the big 007 type escape on your next undercover mission.😀

    Hey Matt 🍻
Overall, it's a fairly good attempt at an SAK alternative. I like the blade shape & steel, the can/package opener + it's made in Italy! 🇮🇹
However, for me, at £60 for this V5, it does not justify good value, unfortunately.
The Fox saw & scissors are good, but not as good as a SAK, especially the Saw, as I've used both - 'in the field'. The Walker has a very similar Saw size, and believe me, it's quite effective, but the Fox - not so...
The Vulpis 1, 3 & 4 with the scissors ✂️ is the only ones I'd really consider buying 👌
    Thanks for sharing,
    Atb Gus 👍

The SAK Huntsman is the best all around edc/outdoor pocket tool. I was looking at the Ti version of this Fox for like $80 in the US, and said nope once I saw the size. Keep my Huntsman.

  • @miklospinter

That protruding piece on the bottle opener looks like it was specifically designed for making the screw driver useless for some screws in tighter spaces. 😂
The same goes for the can opener: the Vic design is already in the way sometimes, but this looks worse. And does this work well as a 2D Phillips? It diesn't look like that.
Also, the "large" driver looks barely bigger to me here. They seem to be much closer in size than the Vic ones, no?
I would appreciate if you could do a review focusing on usability aspects like these.
And thank you for this video, it was a great introduction of a knife I haven't seen before.

As a Swiss and Vic-Fan I disagree on the price. Considering the better materials and the much lower production volume, I would say the price is fair.
But who is this for? Do we really need another SAK-clone with a can-opener? Even Vic is looking into alternatives (like the parcel opener on the companion).

Yeah I don't see the point of the saw blade on this either, thankfully they have versions without it. Got my Huntsman for that. Was looking for something as light as possible with no superfluous tools. Just ordered a Titanium Vulpis with just the M390 blade and the two openers. That can opener / package opener looks badass.
I've been hoping for something like this from Victorinox for years but they seem to think more is better and are sticking to tools that haven't been useful in decades. They don't seem to appreciate minimalism. I like a multiple tool solution, a bigger SAK in the bag and a minimal one in the pocket, it doesn't need to do everything because I'm not gonna pocket it around the house if it's too heavy in the pocket. Otherwise I'd carry a Leatherman!
P.S. I'm a little confused about the half stop on the knife blade.

That was interesting. And nice try Fox, but definitely no coconut this time. £60 for poor fit and finish (Let's be honest, Rough Ryder do better fit and finish for less money ). Ok, it's got good steel. But tbh I think that's somewhat over-kill for such a knife. Incidently, Boker do their own version of the Huntsman for around £50. If you can pick up one of those second hand, they're definitely worth a look. I still prefer my Huntsman though ( not that the Boker is in anyway crap ). But if you do get one, you'll know why lol.

@@SlipjointSawyer to be honest, all knife makers know it's impossible to compete with Victorinox on the SAK market, so all they can do is launch a model with a premium steel to call the steel snobs attention. To be brutally honest, a Victorinox SAK doesn't need a better steel, it just doesn't.
