I have the Huntsman for camping and outdoors. If I’d had a green or camo colour I’d have lost it several times. I have yellow, easy to see in the grass! Wish they did fluorescent orange! I’d buy those scales! Lol
@@chevy4x466 I am not the only one to mention the Explorer, It has all the tools of a Climber plus the inline phillips screwdriver. It is thicker but if you want a thin knife pick the Compact which is on his list. Besides when you get to be an old _uck like me you will appreciate the magnifying glass.
Old *uck here 🙋🏻♂️😂... I carried an Explorer for a very long time, then I found the pliers on a deluxe tinker very useful for my day to day... But I did miss the magnifying glass... I ended up getting a little Keychain magnifier I got at Ace hardware, is attached to the keyring on the deluxe tinker
@@NJRey The Deluxe Tinker is another great model with its super tweezers. That’s the problem with the premise of this video, the five best for who ? The ones listed maybe best for the author but not for his audience and there particular needs. Victorinox is pretty good at addressing a lot of different needs I think it is why most SAK owners have more than one.
The combo tool definitely works as a can opener. I’ve been purposely buying non-ring pull tins and blasted through about 50 with it. The corner Philips also works. I’ve wandered around my house dismantling all manner of shit just to test it out 😅
All very good choices, but I was a bit surprised that the Explorer wan't included. It's one of my favourites fro urban carry ( if I don't want to carry the Swiss Champ and small Tinker for some reason or other ). But that's the joy ( or possibly the curse lol ) of SAKs. There's so many great ones to choose from.
A nice presentation. I long ago chose the Swiss Champ and have never looked back. It has all the tools one could possibly need in a lifetime. Arguably the best value-for-money purchases one can make. Outside occasional cleaning, sharpening, replacement of some springs and broken tweezers, my original Champ has been with me over 30 years.
My Dad also gave me a Climber. Mine's black and it will always be a special knife for me. I do a lot of things outdoors, so now I like having the very effective saw, so I agree with your inclusion of the Huntsman. Great, quick review.
I just got a yellow Hiker, from Swiss Tool Co. UK. It was cheaper than Amazon, and free delivery, AND free engraving,, 🎉🎊,, I'm a happy bunny, because I've wanted a yellow SAK, for a while,, 👌,, ps, great birthday present to myself,, 😀😂,,
How do you find the combo tool as a replacement for the full opener layer? It seems like it would be harder to use in a Phillips screw versus the 2D Phillips on the end of the can opener.
Great selection there Slippy, i still need to add a Tinker variant to the collection, maybe in black! I have a Fieldmaster, which i believe is the Huntsman but with a philips driver instead of the corkscrew. But the compact is the one I tend to pull out the drawer, a perfect all-rounder for me.
You’re the only other person that I’ve seen that changed out the stock pin with the ball head. I did that as well. Less likely to loose and easier to handle. I’ve done that on all mine. Also a note that everyone misses. The “small screwdriver” on the can opener is actually a 2D Phillips driver.
Really hard to choose one over another on a consistent basis. There's so many great ones I can grab one to match my mood. Thanks for showing these, mate. Top notch video. Have a great weekend.
I was gonna buy a sak for the first time in years and i just recently found my old banged up mountaineer. Pretty much just the right amount of tools for urban carry since you wont really need a saw in the city so you have the file instead which is more practical. Gonna buy me some knipex and there you go
Nice selection Matt , I know you're not a fan of the woodsaw so I guess the fieldmaster was never going to make your top five . Have you seen the winter magic 2023 ? Nobody seems to have any in stock . It looks awesome, A T B Tony. 🐴🏴
Nice one, Slippy! They’re growing on me. I only have a Swiss Army 1 and a Floral and a Pruner at the moment… all just single bladed. I could probably do with the Compact since it’s just two layers. But I’ll have to work up to the multi-layered big boys. Good stuff as always, mate👊🏻
Those are awl excellent SAK's accept for the Compact, which doesn't have one...lol 🤣Awl joking aside, great video and thanks for sharing. Take care my friend and Cheers!
I find it odd that people get freaked out that bad over blades, wish that wasn't an issue for you. I've started to tip my toe into these and have a Tinker on the way. Wish me luck!! LOL!!
I don’t understand either. Not the world we grew up in, Jerry. Most guys at my high school had a very obvious belt sheath and a 110 and it was never an issue. I just got my first Victorinox since I was a kid too. It’s a Swiss Army 1. Just has a single blade and that’s it, so I’m not sure it really counts. I do love it though and the Alox scales are sweet! And I have a Floral/Gardening knife and a Pruner knife on the way… and they both have just single blades too.🤣
I’ve been carrying the same victorinox super tinker in my front pocket since 97’ or 98’ about time for a new one tho the blades are getting thin from sharpening.
People's taste really is limitless... seeing a pocket knife that is a global icon seeing a Victorinox with one side red and the other side black... not even the clown from the Simpsons would remember
I prefer the Huntsman SAK @slipjointsawyer It's UK legal, light enough for EDC, no need for me to own more than one SAK. I an thinking of modifying mine by adding ruler markings. BTW the awl is pronounced 'orl'. 👍😉

I am surprised the Explorer didn’t make the list, I find the magnifying glass very useful.
Another good option for sure
It is a fair list. I think the waiter deserves a mention for a keychain edc

It does make a good can opener. My favorite are the Wenger claw can openers though. Too bad they can't be used as a screwdriver tho.

My EDC for over 30 years has been my Swiss Champ. I’d be lost without it.
Awesome stuff brother
I like the climber but first choice might be the explorer
Another good one
My personal fave 5, in no particular order, The Ranger, Super Tinker, Compact, Explorer, and my Plus-scaled Climber.
Enjoyed the video. Thanks.

10 outta 10 for slippy!!!!! Huntsman and compact = happy Mikey
Thank you Sir 🙏🏼

To be honest I haven't used it a whole bunch but it is a great little tool!

Very nice! btw, the file also has a metal saw...a good combo with the Huntsman...😊
Thanks for the info!
@@SlipjointSawyer you are most welcome!
Definitely getting into saks. Dan has done an amazing job reprofiling my blades on my 1960’s huntsman. Can’t wait to get it back 🤙👍
Awesome Will, it will be transformed by Dan

It's quickly becoming a favourite of mine

Thank you TK 🙏🏼 very kind words coming from a Jackass 😂 but I agree, almost impossible to pick a favourite one
Thanks for the look Slippy
Most welcome CC
The ranger is my favorite i put green + scales on mine
Excellent
Great selection! I love my Super Tinker and carry it most days. Great video Matt :)
You and me both! Thanks Randy
my favorite 91mm is Ranger. Not too many layers like Swiss Champ but have all basic tools
Awesome
Is there a specific straight pin length and size? I want to get a ball end one for mine, great idea
Just a standard pin with the ball on the end works great
Some pins work better than others but the design of the holder is clever as it bends the pin first one way and then the other to hold it in.
Great looking knives! I always like the deferent tools on those!!
You and me both! Thanks Mike

I have, but I'm also struggling to find one in stock 😩
Very nice set of saks brother 🤙🏽 thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching!
Compact is by far the best 91mm SAK and the Yeoman is a close second
Still hunting for that Yeoman 👀
I would definitely trade out the Mountaineer for the Explorer. I get the rest though I'm conflicted on the Compact.
Appreciate you watching brother

Excellent video!
The only model I'd swap is the Super Tinker, I'd go for the Explorer instead - but the rest of the list is bang on 🔥
Awesome
Put affiliate amazon links in the description Slippy, great video! I use the file on the mountaineer to sharpen my crampons
Thanks for the tip!

On your super tinker where did you buy the black and red scales? Love the two tone look. Thank you.😊
I bought a set of each colour from eBay 🙏🏻

Great video, I’m new to SAK . How did you replace the scales ?
They just clip off, slide the small blade between the scales and liner
Companion seems like a great option as well.
Definitely!
How the heck do you keep your scales looking so shiny 🤪
If you have soo many you can get double to have as users 👀😂
The combination tool on the compact will indeed open a tin can in a pinch and without much more effort than the traditional can tool
Thank you
I’ve been carrying the same victorinox super tinker in my front pocket since 97’ or 98’ about time for a new one tho the blades are getting thin from sharpening.
Better get a few of them 👀👏🏼
The parcel hook on my super tinker sometimes hits and hangs up on the aluminum liner, denting it 😢 any suggestions for any easy fix?
Very lightly bend it in a vice to one side 🤘🏻
Love SAKs.
Me too sir
Best overall was, is and always will be... - "THIS IS SPARTAN!!!"
😂😂😂
I’m fond of my super tinker
Awesome
