never knew it was a movie till today. i learned this by heart from my father in the navy, then when i went to navy basic last year i sung it daily as we marched. and i doubt ill ever forget it.

I love this song and it relates to me I also had a brother in Iraq who died and I'm currently in afghanistan fighting the Taliban so I completely can relate to this song and I listen to it when I go to sleep thank you for your service Bruce and I love all of my brothers and sisters
We have a fallen brother coming home today. Sgt.Meddock gave the ultimate sacrifice in Afghanistan. All of the Texas panhandle are lining up the roads from amarillo to spearman tx to honor his trip home.

We sang this cadence when I was in basic and AIT. Then I went to the real Army and learned the true meaning of this cadence. I will always miss my brothers who gave their lives so we may live ours and I pray one day I will see them again. I will never allow the freedom they paid for to be taken with out a fight and if that day should ever come I hope my brother welcome me with open arms knowing I gave my all!

I was in Iraq, 2003. I’m a Brit, but served in a team with US Army and USMC bods. I also love the Boss. The movie, and this song left me a messy bucket of tears.

i've either been in or supported; DS2, Panama, Grenada, Rwanda, Beruit, storms and floods as an airlifter - i've shipped what was left and picked up the whole. i've been shot at, spit at, cursed at, and praised. but what do you say when someone who has NO clue, "thank you for your service" - they never understand - we don't do it for the glory - and we definitely don't do it for mom, the flag, or apple pie either. we do it for each other. (just venting after the movie on TV and the song. this guy has done alot for us Vets and he's hardly recognized for it - i think it's about time he was!!!!!)

I saw the end of Thank You for your Service where this song was playing, and it weighs heavily how much we take for granted on what our soldiers have sacrificed and sacrificing. This song rings true freedom isnt free but fought at the barrel of a gun, thank you to all enlisted personal i pray we never take your sacrifices in vain # military lives
Love this. I am an Army-serviced connected Veteran and this is so true and what I tell people all they time. They don't realize the sacrifices we make and our families. Thank you.

I just came on this video while watching cadences. I have to say it hit me hard, as my family has served in the military, and all its conflicts since 1912.
I have an Uncle memorialized on the Menin Gate, and a Grandfather who survived Ypres, only to be taken POW at the age of 16.
another Uncle of that generation survived all of WW1 and served as an Officer in WW2. One Uncle went rogue and Joined the RCN. serving for the duration of WW2
1 Uncle served in Korea and another in West Germany during the Cold War
Father and Uncle served as reservists during the ColdWar, and my brothers and I all joined the RCN, the other 2 seeing service during the both Gulf Wars.My family has shed blood for freedom, and most of us promised our lives for freedom.
We have paid our dues, and yet now my son serves....
of course i feel this.

I would sing a variation of this cadence when I was in ROTC marching my cadets everyone loved it I could see the impact it made on peoples faces how they rethought about their freedom always made me emotional when marching them.
I enjoy this song, my drill seargent called this for cadence one time while marching.

When i was a black rope in tech school i sang this song sometimes while marching. Sometimes it didnt work though because it was hard getting the cadence right for the 100 people marching with me, so i got a lot of hate for that. But it was better than singing about freaking jody 😂
