I'm 71. I graduated high school in May 1971. I had a very good friend that was ahead of me a year. He graduated and went straight to Vietnam. He was infantry. He left an easy going person that loved to party and have a good time. He made it a little over a year there and was never physically wounded but he was wounded in another way. When he came back he was hooked on heroin really bad. Wasn't even the same person. He made it trough all that over there came back home and got killed in less than a month home. High on heroin he hit a bridge in his car traveling a 120 miles per hour. Had to cut him out of the car. That war was useless. Our troops went and fought for nothing. What really sucked was our troops came back and was spit on by our on people called baby killers. Unlike today everyone that comes back is a hero. And the bad thing is we had no choice. We were drafted. God bless all the Vietnam veterans.
So sorry your right my husband served in Vietnam and came back to hate and such disrespect I’ll never forget it either God Bless everyone of our Vietnam Vers and thank you for your service❤️🇺🇸
That was a shame how the vets were treated if you know a Vietnam vet tell him or her welcome home they will know what you mean. They are hero's the same as all vets are.
I joined the Australian Navy at 15, I had my 17th birthday on the way to Vietnam, when I came home I was in a Pub with my Civilian Mates when one stood up and told everyone I had just returned from Vietnam, I felt like"here we go" to my surprise some people clapped, some bought me a Beer, the Publican gave me a few free beers, so much different treatment to the big city's where we couldn't even wear our uniforms without abuse.

My boyfriend went to Vietnam, 101st Airborne. He left a high school boy and came back a very disturbed man. He was never the same. All war is terrible, I wish we could stop the fighting. The music, though, the music was fantastic! I enjoy it to this day.😊
I'm Thai. My grandfather was a Thai soldier who fought in Vietnam with the Queen's Cobra Battalion. He didn't tell me many stories about the battlefield because I wasn't very close to him. But after I grew up and listened to the interviews of the Queen's Cobra Battalion soldiers who fought in Vietnam, I became proud of my grandfather. And I understand why he doesn't want to talk about this. War is really a brutal thing.
My grandfather was a paratrooper that dropped into France 6 days after D-day. I asked my pawpaw how many people he killed (I was little). He didn't answer. Just walked away. Your pawpaw? Every man has his secrets. Deal with it. Make your own history is what he would tell you....

All war is a result of socialism, plain and simple. With that in mind, what does it say about my beloved America? I've been myself, it's all nonsense.

True, war is hell. That's why we had over 12,000 wars since the first known battle, the one at Jebel Sahaba in Sudan about 11400 BCE.
