Hi Jen, As always You knocked it out of the park! A great bag and very clear instructions for everyone even beginners can make this project with great success! Thank You for Sharing!
Can you please please do a tutorial on figuring out the math formula for making totes. For example if I want to make a custom purse or tote a certain height and width. This is the hardest thing to find on UA-cam. For example how the math changes the height and width of the purse based on how large you make the Box bottom. Thank you so much
Great tutorial! Only thing missing was some shots of where you were sewing on the bag (shot of the entire bag), but I was able to figure it out since I've made many bags before. LOVE that you added measurements, stitch lengths and even needle and thread size. It's really helpful for beginners! Thanks for your time in making this great video!
It’s looks good tote bag, Ms. Jen! Hope next time more bag/purse tutorials from your channel! This is one thing I wanna make for my own use at home.. And also a bag pack or simple shoulder bag for woman with a zipper and pockets inside. Thanks to your clear explanation !
I made one today your tutorial was very detailed however I was so excited I forgot to open the zip 😃 so I had to make a small opening put in my fingers to open I got through fine
You had me with "it has pockets." :D Watching this it occurred to me that a handy lesson would be a primer on interfacing. Not just what it does but what the different kinds are like. For instance, if you can't get the kind referenced in the pattern how can you figure out a good substitute to use? (Or can you even use a substitute at all?)
A while ago I did a video showing how to apply different types of interfacing. For this one, definitely go with Pellon SF101. I've tried other types with bag making, with disappointing results - usually the fabric / interfacing combo getting permanent crinkles / wrinkles after turning it right side out. I haven't found a suitable substitute.
Still have it, but decided to mostly use the Brother since it's more budget-friendly for beginners. Does pretty much the same stuff as the EverSewn, just has fewer stitch options.
Hi Jennifer, love your videos! Just a quick question- did you wash your material before sewing? Do you do that for all your projects? It's been years since I've been sewing and I've started to take it back up again but can't remember that. It's nice to have these kinds of videos for refreshing my memory. Thanks!
No, I did not pre-wash the canvas fabric as I've found it difficult to press afterward. With bags, even using quilting cotton I generally do not pre-wash since I don't plan on laundering the item regularly. I have a REALLY old video talking about applying Scotchgard to fabric before sewing with it for certain projects. You could treat any fabric that might get stained or dirty easily. I would (gently) hand wash any handmade bags using something like Soak no-rinse laundry soap or Woolite. There is more info about pre-washing fabric in this video about sewing tips: ua-cam.com/video/-xyRvhE9EUs/v-deo.html
For the life of me, I cannot remember where I bought it - but search for 1 inch wide cotton webbing. You can use polyester, but be VERY careful ironing/pressing because it can melt.
You mention several times to use a "triple stitch". In all my years of sewing, I have never heard of this term. What is it? How is it different than a straight stitch?
It's a straight stitch, but the needle stitches each area 3x hence the name "triple stitch." On your machine, this is how it looks: 1.bp.blogspot.com/-4v0zPoTF_O0/UbcsPTBKoVI/AAAAAAAAJ4E/ziujbzuw1Ac/s1600/Sew+Can+Do+Knit+Applique+Step+6.jpg
Ugh . . . American videos . . . ."You need nine chains of 15/25s of four birch twigs width canvas, 18/67s hectares of inner material, probably the thickness of a Clydesdales quarter shank hair .. . . . . " . . . . . Great video nevertheless. . . now, where can i get a shankle of the finest Birkle cloth" 😂

Like this one. Triple stitch is great idea. I would keep this myself cause pink and spring green are my favorite colors.
This is the tutorial I'm going to use to gift a tote to my best friend using a fabric I found she will love!
Wonderful!
Great tip on basting with glue and also gluing the bias tape on the pocket. Such a good video! Recommend for anyone wanting to sew a bag.

That is a pretty bag. Keep it! Seems like it would be sturdy enough to use as a shopping bag. Thanks for sharing. Have a blessed day.
Comparable to the capacity of a large duffel bag. Able to fit the essentials for my newborn and toddler!
Thanks for making the construction easy! I love the pockets

I completely agree, it'd be great to have clarification in that area!

@@SewingReport Good to know, thank you!
Do you think it's possible to make my own straps instead of using webbing? How could I do this?
Hi Jen, Just wondering what happened to your Eversewn Sparrow 25 as you are now using a Brother? Thank you for all your videos 😁
Still have it, but decided to mostly use the Brother since it's more budget-friendly for beginners. Does pretty much the same stuff as the EverSewn, just has fewer stitch options.
Cute
Keep the bag!

@@SewingReport Awesome! Thank you!
I am going to try and make this soon 😄
Can you use canvas fabric for outdoor cushions?
Yes outdoor canvas would probably work just keep in mind manufacturer's care instructions for cleaning. Some may be spot clean or dry clean only.
Keep it of course.
I think you should give it to me!!!!!!
What are the pocket piece size?
Hi Jen, what brand is your pressing iron, please?
Crikut
Where do you get your bias tape ?
This was ok, i would do pockets instead of the divider, other than that it was a good video
Where did you get the strap for making this tote bag?
