I like this version! To give it structure, I would make it with upholstery fabric for outside plus heavy interfacing on outside PLUS interfacing on lining. Then I'd topstich the final bag 1/4" from all seams.... tfs!
Definitely thank you you are the BEST. Loved this video as I typed in quick easy tote to sew and your video is the first I selected to watch. I even was fine with the lively back ground not so back ground music as it was snappy and fun. (Often as not back ground music is too loud or annoying sounds but this was fine.) I just made and cut out two other totes that resemble the exact size of a paper grocery bag in the USA stores. I made one up already and need to do the next two. However I opted to sew in a rectangle bottom instead of measure and figure out the one piece lay out and notched out corners like you made today. Yes I know how to do that but I thought the rectangle would be more sturdy and it was made with a higher denier material but identical family of cordura cloth and matched in die lot the softer side fabric chosen for the upper sack body. I'm happy with the results bit it's a bit awkward when finding the corners to sew for extra support to the bag. I realize this would make that much easier. So I plan on making a total of 6 of these bags. We are retired so rarely exceed 2 bags at the store but I want to make an insulated one for frozen goods and one that is lined with extra water proofed material that removes for washing so I can also carry say messy meat or wet products and keep the bag sanitized between uses. I didn't want to double fabric this bag either with a sewn in lining because it could block germs that you could pick up via groceries. In the end I think I'll stay with the original plans and of course not line it with it's own already coated and wet and water proof material because it's not 100% even if you glue the seams and back to back coating will develop moisture and trap it and who knows what it would grow. Today I took a King size throw and cut it to a huge twin size throw and made queen size pillow shams out of the rest. It's a shag style material. Now I want a tote to use as a gift bag but just couldn't get the juices going for a pattern or kick start my brain into approaching it. Yes yours is fast and just what I was looking for. Of course mine is going to be made a lot bigger cause I went and inserted over puffy pillows in the shams and I'll need to squeeze them down into a fairly large but firm tote. I have a lovely raspberry colored vinyl ready to make into this style of tote with or without a lining. I have a new flat raspberry pink sheet for material that would work well as a lining. It will be 9" on the sides because the lady the gift is for has about 9 inch opening along a book shelf that's 14 inches deep. She can use the tote in this slot to hold the poly fill she buys and stuffs into it for her craft projects and help keep the room neat. I'm off to work on it now. Thank you again.

It looks like 38.5 x 16.5 in. Squares look like 7cm. Not sure on the black lines but I'm guessing 1/2" from the notched part in the middle. Notch being made from the 7cm squares that were cut out.

Great bag. (When I see "handbag" I think of a purse or a pocketbook whereas I'd call this bag a shopping bag.) It's cool that it's reversible. It's probably a lot stronger too. Nicely done!

Very good tutorial! Everything is covered. Everything is easy to understand. The only problem is the choice and volume of music. You don't need music for this tutorial. It doesn't add anything to the lesson. Plus it makes it hard to persevere to the end.
