I would like to be able to have positional and tactical flow in different phases of the game. FM sorta does it, but it feels more like a bandage option. There’s no option in FM to make Zirkzee work as he does in real life for instance. False 9 nor deep playing forward neither goes down and participate in the build up, and gets into the middle of the passing pattern to outnumber, and then utilizes the 2 free players on the flank. I do get, that it’s highly complex for people to wrap their head around, but you can just have something default that works, as it does now.. and then when you’re ready, you can dig down and nerd about it. It’s more realistic and it simulate how football is now. I hope they finally give stadiums a bit of love as well. Personally I’ve played since 98… and I don’t care about graphics. I love when you do these, Jack, because you have the experience and ability to clear up some of the things many of us don’t understand and can also look at things objectively despite your ties to the game. I’m looking forward to some of the changes, especially what the match engine will be like in Unity. However, I’m devastated we’re losing in-match shouts 😭.
FM generally did not have a full rebuild like this since CM. So, this very well might be the first skip-a-year release for the franchise. Indeed, PES and FIFA had multiple engine upgrades over the years when they removed half of the features then re-introduced them over multiple years then started over again. I hope this does not come to that as it always felt that the games are becoming worse and worse with every switch, never reaching the heights of the previous generation. As long as the core of the game, the great manager mode, huge and detailed database, and general functionality is in place I would buy it for sure. Removing any core option like multiple managers or nation managing for example would make this an inferior release though.
I don't mind the UI and, as you said, you can hardly draw too many conclusions from a design file. My main hope is that they pay closer attention to the details of the design (text alignment (e.g. look at the boxes around the teams on the form screen with them being different sizes makes it look messy, the scores are still aligned based on the 3 characters vs three columns to centre each character neatly etc.) It's little things but these add up to the visual experience. The player history page in the current game is a great example of how bad design (and data management) can ruin parts of the visual representation of the game
the biggest thing is they will be able to design the same base game across all platforms (when mobile and touch move to unity later), and the core engine won't change, which will make their life a fair bit easier. Then they can work on the polish of each version, tailoring the console version to work on a big TV screen and with a controller and the PC version for a 1080P/1440P/2160P screen and keyboard mouse set up along with the Touch and Mobile version when they come being designed with touch input in mind (and controller support for mobile). Thats a pretty handy flexibility to have really. The downside is that it will of course push the minimum system requirements up a bit and players may need to upgrade their PCs to cope with it (most likely the GPU I expect, but AMD's iGPUs are pretty good these days and the upcoming iGPU in the Intel chips looks pretty good too, so new laptop options should work fine). I wonder if they'll support the new ARM chips?
I have indeed used the chalkboard, quite often actually. To see certain plays and analyze how the tactics and formation are repsonding to certain specific threats in specific areas on the pitch. It's also usefull for seeing where threats from the opposing team are coming from, and how your team responds to certain attacks or defence tactics. Once you actually limit the info on screen to what you want, it's actually quite enlightening and more detailed than the data hub I feel, but that's me.
First I heard of the news, been away from the FMverse for a while. Thanks for covering it! And yeah, I basically agree with all you said. When you mentioned 'removed features' I was taken aback but it seems to me like the good kind of cleanup. Curious if they'll keep the UI skin-able, and I sure hope so.
I wasn't sure about the user interface when I first saw it but I really like the idea of it now... The tile and card system sounds really good. There are loads of panels on FM24 where I want a bit more detailed information. I then have to click through a bunch of different menus to find it and then I have to go all the way back to where I was originally and by the time I've done that, I've forgotten what I was doing in the first place. As for the new home screen - I'll definitely have to play it before knowing for sure. It looks a bit bland but then, so does the current inbox.... I'd like it if the home page was customisable. I'd rather see all my fixtures instead of one week of the whole league. During transfer windows, I want to see details related to that etc. Hopefully you'll be able to pin whatever tiles/cards you want on there.
Aside from interface and graphical improvements in the match engine, I am not expecting many changes to the rest of the game. FM24 did a lot compared to previous years. I think SI will just focus on the new interface this time.
I agree with you jack, until you pointed out the 2024 and 25 difference, It could be a hint at a tie up with fifa to become the new face of the football management game that was ripped after fifa 23
I'm worried that the new UI might lead to way more clicking to achieve the same output. Maybe it's not realistic, but my SASskin that has all the player's important data all on one screen is going to be difficult to give up.
I actually have used that screen (I had no idea it was called "Data Chalkboard"). I like it for some things, especially when looking at what exactly a player did in that match/stretch. Some of the screens are like...what is that monstrosity (like the one you showed lol), but some of them were nice to have. Data Hub doesn't give that kind of detail so I will actually miss it.
Jack, I really liked the video and I pretty much agree with everything you said within it. You mentioned DLC when talking about Civilisation, and that got me thinking about if they would go down the same route, and also if they would consider a "basic" game, but with pay-to-use DLC? Would they go down a monthly subscription route for the main game? Cheers for the vid, and cross your fingers!
it does look like a UI for on mobile or Ipad if that is the case i will wait my purchase till all reviews are out on steam and not by content creators because of course they are going to be very positief because they don't want lose there audience
I’m glad you’ve done this Jack, up for the future of FM! Well, Football Manager XX. I dunno if that will grow on me or not, but hey, its just a naming choice
For some reason I decided to watch this video in 1.25x speed (I try watch all of Jack's content but I only have FM20 and haven't played it in a while so I'm not buying FM25) and that advert segment was so funny to watch in 1.25x speed haha
Ive not bout the last two editions of FM as i got a little burnt out by the sameness with tweaks. Im excited for the potential full on re brand/refresh so am likely to buy FM25
I'm extremely intrigued by what's in store with FM25 - intrigued and, probably like many FM fans, slightly nervous! We're creatures of habit and "major change" scares us! My take on it is that the move to Unity is through a desire to really up the match graphics/play etc. And to be honest, if SI didn't touch the rest of the game too much but did manage to increase the reality of matches, I wouldn't complain too much. We've all gotta admit that some of the stuff that players do during matches is just plain unrealistic or crazy or ridiculous or stupid. Getting rid of that would be fantastic. Only last night, my RB was receiving a long pass but suddenly just ran off from the ball - it hit him on the back and their LW took the loose ball, ran into the area and smashed it home - WTF SI!? So, like you Jack, I'm hopeful they don't change too much about the depth of the game but the "frilly edges" of FM do really need a tidy-up and maybe FM25 is the start of that. Having said this, I won't be uninstalling FM24 anytime soon and I hope the amazing people who dedicate so much time to doing add-ons and updates continue to do so for FM24 - you're all aces!
They're focussing on cosmetic crap like Premier League license which I assume will cost a fortune to appeal to FIFA players. There is so much unnecessary rubbish in the games now: press conferences, player interactions that are completely broken, a transfer system that doesn't work. I'd happily play FM2012 if I could make it work on my Steamdeck
I used the Chalkboard. It is ►very efficient in tactical analysis◄. The primary reason the use of it dropped, is the decline in in-match graphics, which made it quite tricky to even find it. Which means either you don't know it, you drop it because you can't find it, or you use too much energy in navigating through to it. I therefore disagree their analysis of why it is not being used.
I actually really love the social media comments. Accuracy doesn't even matter, they add a lot of flavour Thank you for the UI section. I've been saying the same things.
My worry is that the game is focusing more on Consoles than PC. The Tiling aspects of the UI is a good example of how controllers would be used versus keyboard and mouse.
@@roystonvasey5471 It doesn't become any less complex because they make it easier to navigate using a controller. All the depth will still be there, just with better UX. Nobody is dumbing down anything.
@@sayreharder1541 Please elaborate. If you can do literally everything you could do before (apart from the features they already announced as not included in the game for now, which added little to no depth to the game), how does it become less complex? Less complicated, maybe. But being more approachable and less deep are two very different things.
Imagine a wild feature like trying to sub off a player and then you get a message pop up saying “the player said no and rejected substitution” 😮💀😂 I feel like that’ll be so funny and actually piss u off 🥵
The only thing I want is an updated match engine where the 4231 gengenpress doesn't run over every single team I play without a hint of challenge. It completely sucked all the fun out of the game.
damn i'm upset about the chalkboard being axed. i will be honest, i only used it for certain things. i usually studied my opponents average positions in and out of possession, key passes and dribbles to figure out who their important players/areas are, and use that to tailor my instructions and sometimes even shapes. still, i will just have to figure out how i can navigate to the same date in the data hub, but still sad to see it go. i play both mac and ps5/xbox, and on console i do realise that sometimes you can't find exactly what data screen you want to find. when doing a coop career with my friend we would often have to ask each other to look if one of us had the 'advanced goalkeeping' window to see out keepers performance compared to xg. however if we couldn't find it we would have to advance a few days and sometime it would show up. again a minor issue and i have faith that with the new ui, the data hub will be more accessible to new and old players on both console and pc. great video love your stuff, especially the j-league!
Dare I say fm25 and fc25 are partnering in some way. All the fm roles seem to be in fc25, could they porting a highlights system form eas frostbite into fm25s unity?
Overall im happy with it’s state. All these years all im saying people always complains about the game is turning into fifa with the lack of change and all the changes are cosmetics now they finally can shut up about it. I like this year iterations i feel like while it could be better but for a game that is gonna be the main game ill play next year if fm 25 is a dud then im happy to have a go at it for another year in fm 24 and maybe play on fm 26 when it is stable. Because i remember everytime they introduce new system the game broke on that specific iterations and this one is actually changing game engine meaning they will have to go from scratch again for this year iterations so there will be many bugs for sure.
Only thing i hope is that if i create my manager, it wont be a blob in a purple suit... and that if the game writes "The stewards struggle to hold him back" that there are ACTUAL stewards on the field...
It does look like its made for console tho, and that is understandable considering how many new players play on console. sucks for us oldschools.... will have to wait and see how it feels when its out.
Definitely not enough info to make judgements about FM25 just yet. I must confess I’m inclined to wait until I see some of the FM UA-camrs playing FM25 and seeing what they make of it before I dive in. I do wonder if this might be a year of teething problems with the move to a new platform and whether it might be better to wait for FM26. But hopefully the new game will be amazing and I won’t want to wait.
@@WorkTheSpace hope you get better soon! hasn’t been the right start to the week without your episodes love the series and yourself so much keep up the great work
I am pessimistic about improvements. At this point, I just don't want the game to go backwards or lose some of the in-depth features that make it infinitely replayable.
"First screenshots" Those weren't screenshots. Those were design documents, it says so in the bottom right corner of every image. Edit: Oh nvm I jumped to conclusion too soon again.
It's Windows 8 all over again, a UI optimized for touchscreens and tablets that ignored PC users, we all know how that worked out. This is the same things, but the game is optimized for consoles and controllers.
I hate all the most recent FM, I miss FM 08 and fm 12. After that the game become more complicated and slow, I loved the quicker seasons, now I'm forced to go Holiday to avoid some of the boring things.
Never cared for the graphics on FM don’t want to go out and buy a £££££££ PC just for that. Just the gameplay that matters to me, I’d still be happy with 2D 😂 no FM game will compare to 2008 for me
Still far too little information and early to make a proper judgement. FM25 is going to of course be rather different, but under the hood it is likely to be the same game. It will just have a fancier dress on the top of the match engine and other parts they've been working on over the past few years. Of course as they've started afresh in Unity they have taken the chance to reevaluate everything, which is the best move I think. Fans will of course take time to adapt and there will be somethings they get feedback on, which they change for FM26 onward (I too noted the Football Manager 26 rather than FM26, which makes sense as it makes it stand out more to people unfamiliar with the game). A new start is worrying for some, and maybe it won't be the best FM game, but it will improve as they get used to the new UI engine. The ability to develop the same game for Touch, Console, Mobile and PC will make a big difference to their processes and probably reduce the load on their programmers and designers, which in turn could see a more polished game each year, though time will tell of course.
The Inbox needed an overhaul, however this is too simplified. The scout mails needed to have a look at and a proper filter for the Inbox would have done it a good service. Also, to make the Home screen more of a real Home screen with relevant data - good idea. Integrate the Mailbox into the Home screen would do the trick. But at the state that we have been shown - its not good and FAR TOO mobile gamey! I get they need to make changes due to engine requirements and make the game ready for more mobile platforms, but in the shown state, they are gutting it of its appeal - which was roleplaying as a manager, dive into data etc. This goes the way so many other games in other genres have gone - make it more accessible to casual gamers, lower the entrance bar for new players - but it seems like the cost is, to get rid of of some of the core experiences long term fans of the series have come to love - and that is not good.
I am worried about FM25. The only thing we know is they have removed a bunch of features (even if most of them aren’t super important) and the only thing they’ve shown is design shots of a new UI. Being in Unity means nothing to the end user if it’s a lesser product. They haven’t even indicated new features are coming other than the console-friendly UI so I’m not expecting anything new. May be a skip year, hoping they prove me wrong.
We've probably got 4 months before the game comes out (if working to the same release dates as previous versions). Plenty of time for more info to be released. No sense in hyping the game up too far out. Makes more sense to show the new features and screenshots closer to the release date. Think we just need to be patient. Regards screenshots and the look of the new game, I reckon we'll start seeing these after the Unite event in September mentioned in the blog. Guessing Unity and SI will use that event to showcase the new look. SI will then use that as a starting point to ramp up interest and excitement in what will hopefully be a 1-2 month window ahead of release date. It's just a guess though.
Honestly, I think I will stick with FM24. Especially since FM25 probably gonna have a lot of 'new era' problems and I just don't like the 'mobile app' look they are going with.
I want them to fix stuff like interactions, finances in smaller countries.. not focusing on something new and leave the last few years features halfbaked - instead of just offering something new.
Anyone here intending to add women's football to their database? Be interesting to know if it will be viable for 2026 if very few bother to include it.
Don't know why anyone's getting excited, it'll be just the same you'll hardly notice the minor tweaks and changes and as for the watch engine, does anyone even watch there matches? I know I've always got mine in text commentary.

The advertisement segment so stupid and funny that (like a Jay Foreman or MapMan Video) I actually watched and enjoyed it instead of just skipping jt
Love the mapmen!
For some reason I decided to watch this video in 1.25x speed (I try watch all of Jack's content but I only have FM20 and haven't played it in a while so I'm not buying FM25) and that advert segment was so funny to watch in 1.25x speed haha
amazing, glad you got a new sponsor.
Hi jack, whats the future for the TCS skin? I love it, hoping this new format isn't going to interfere too much!
Given we have no idea on how moddable the UI is it’s impossible to say sadly!
Ive not bout the last two editions of FM as i got a little burnt out by the sameness with tweaks. Im excited for the potential full on re brand/refresh so am likely to buy FM25
Really appreciate your balanced takes and how you drew on your experience with UI, great video!
Never mind never using the chalkboard, I’m going to be honest I’ve never even been on that screen in my life.. first time seeing it.
This was an excellent upload man...very informative. Bring more of this.
Accuracy doesn't even matter, they add a lot of flavour
Thank you for the UI section. I've been saying the same things.
Hey mate, what camera do you use? Cheers
My worry is that the game is focusing more on Consoles than PC. The Tiling aspects of the UI is a good example of how controllers would be used versus keyboard and mouse.
It's a bigger market
What about that worries you?
@@ZevraelBecause I want FM to stay complex and addictive. I dont want FM to be dumbed down and simplified. If you want that go Fifa Manager.
Can we import our saves across or not though, I love my retro dB
First time ever ive watched one of these ads. hillarious.
pretty good when you actually feel like watching it. I think Jay Forman and the Map Men series does some of the best ones.
When Jack talked about Civ I was wondering if there will be any Video about Civilization 6 ever on this channel
Civ 7 is out next year!
damn i'm upset about the chalkboard being axed. i will be honest, i only used it for certain things. i usually studied my opponents average positions in and out of possession, key passes and dribbles to figure out who their important players/areas are, and use that to tailor my instructions and sometimes even shapes. still, i will just have to figure out how i can navigate to the same date in the data hub, but still sad to see it go.
i play both mac and ps5/xbox, and on console i do realise that sometimes you can't find exactly what data screen you want to find. when doing a coop career with my friend we would often have to ask each other to look if one of us had the 'advanced goalkeeping' window to see out keepers performance compared to xg. however if we couldn't find it we would have to advance a few days and sometime it would show up. again a minor issue and i have faith that with the new ui, the data hub will be more accessible to new and old players on both console and pc.
great video love your stuff, especially the j-league!
I will be sad to see the old format go, And excited to see what my favourite developers have been baking in the oven the last year.
Dare I say fm25 and fc25 are partnering in some way. All the fm roles seem to be in fc25, could they porting a highlights system form eas frostbite into fm25s unity?
Thats not how these things work Im afraid!
Hey, just wondering why you left sports interactive? Ngl been watching for a few years and im suprised I never knew you worked for them aha !
It does look like its made for console tho, and that is understandable considering how many new players play on console.
sucks for us oldschools.... will have to wait and see how it feels when its out.
About time for a change up I think. Great video as always
funnily, with the esports part, I'll take part ik the German qualifier this weekend
I thought I'd missed an update from SIGames when I saw you uploaded this.
Standby for touch line shout DLC
The fm25 match screen shot reminds me of fm11
where’s the episodes jack??
I have a chesty cough and haven't been able to talk since Friday sadly!
"First screenshots"
Those weren't screenshots. Those were design documents, it says so in the bottom right corner of every image.
Edit: Oh nvm I jumped to conclusion too soon again.
I've used the chalkboard a bunch when I fiddle with tactics. the Average position map is a life saver.
We want tokio
Still waiting for Tokyo 🤔
Where’s my tokio?
Who's tokio ?
Are all the club badges going to be updated or is that a licence thing? Also, how big a job would it be if all the stadiums looked like the real ones?
It's Windows 8 all over again, a UI optimized for touchscreens and tablets that ignored PC users, we all know how that worked out. This is the same things, but the game is optimized for consoles and controllers.
I really want to see the game graphics!!!
Your tactic and player role wishes will be coming true 👀
My yearly create a club is gone and I’m not happy😢
Nooo my data chalkvord it is so good to see players stats in spespic matches
Nearly DHL Pitstop Ultras time!
I hate all the most recent FM, I miss FM 08 and fm 12. After that the game become more complicated and slow, I loved the quicker seasons, now I'm forced to go Holiday to avoid some of the boring things.
Wait……. There’s a chalkboard!???
Never cared for the graphics on FM don’t want to go out and buy a £££££££ PC just for that. Just the gameplay that matters to me, I’d still be happy with 2D 😂 no FM game will compare to 2008 for me
Jack has arrived. . . A Nord VPN, it's about time
Damn you, I thought we had new NEW updates.
Well, I'm not really worried about the gameplay, but my pc hates the unity engine, and with every unity game, there is always some problem
Are you going to do a f1 manager save cause i really want one
It needs a DOF mode so badly.
all I want is a way to heavily alter defensive and offensive structures :(
The Inbox needed an overhaul, however this is too simplified.
I want them to fix stuff like interactions, finances in smaller countries.. not focusing on something new and leave the last few years features halfbaked - instead of just offering something new.
great sponsor segment haha
Dramatic entrance level - 4
Higher than I was expecting to be honest!
Look I loved the streamer showdown watched a couple of them
Anyone here intending to add women's football to their database? Be interesting to know if it will be viable for 2026 if very few bother to include it.
I had my birthday and waiting for a Tokyo 23 video...
If we’re going to get WhatsApp instead of emails, I hope my third-choice keeper sends me angry memes about not playing enough.
A shout during a highlight makes no sense a highlight means that play has already happened so how can you influence that
I get the feeling they will regret switching to Unity Engine. This won't be good.
Yes the mail inbox is ugly and kinda funky, but i like it.... it will be kinda weird to get used to not having to click in my emails :/
Did they remove the "resign" button so we don't hit it by accident 😲
Don't know why anyone's getting excited, it'll be just the same you'll hardly notice the minor tweaks and changes and as for the watch engine, does anyone even watch there matches? I know I've always got mine in text commentary.
The only FM feature that I wont is full AI players chats,
Imagine talking to AI haaland and talk him into joining your croatian league champion :D
