    Love watching your videos! I'm 17 senior in high school I graduate in 6 months and I'm going to work in the Carpenters Union in southwest California. You make me more confident in myself going into the workforce!

      First and foremost, thank you for watching. I appreciate it. This is why I made these videos. We have to give the young guys confidence to join the trades and knock it out of the park.

    I just journeyed out dude.. and I’ve moved to three states during my apprenticeship.. it was a wild ride .. now I’m with a finish crew and all of us even the general Forman are between 21 & 32 yo and it’s the best crew I’ve ever worked with .. we are all getting the work done even while blasting music and joking around all day.. I just can’t believe how great this crew is cuz I’ve worked w so many different grumpy old timers from all over the place.. I’m grateful for what the OGs taught me tho.. that knowledge will carry me forever..

      That's awesome. I've worked on some great crews. And some trash ones. But nothing lasts forever. So I keep that In mind. When things are tough, I know it won't last. When things are good, I cherish the time.

    You’re definitely right too about too much cynicism and negativity in construction. Makes it hard to blame folks for not wanting to do it.

    Hi Antonio i just started working as a carpenters apprentice at my local in ottawa. I wanted to know your opinion on the different types of work ie formwork, scaffold, finish, etc. Have you done all of them? Whats your preferred type of work?

    • @unscriptedwithantonio
      @unscriptedwithantonio  7 місяців тому +1

      I've never done professional scaffolds. Just helped build temp ones. Ive done pretty much everything else. Finish work, siding, concrete form work, vertical concrete, and waterproofing. I really enjoy finish work and windows. But everything has its good attributes and drawbacks.

    I did some concrete forms and a little pouring like 15 years ago. I’m definitely not a fan of pouring and not even necessarily putting up the heavy forms but I did like securing them. These days I work in a paper mill after basically washing out of construction lol. I definitely respect every trade and everyone who does honest work. Good content.

    I joined my local union 3 months ago. I have construction experience but not really carpentry experience. I’m trying my best to learn more every day and stay focused on my end goal. The journeyman I’m with is very hard on me he’s 54 been doing it for 40 years and 32 years union. This is his last year before retirement and my first year. I have to remind myself a lot of these things you talk about in this video

      Some people will be naturally gifted when it comes to carpentry. Or they will be more driven than others. So far in my career, I've met 2 really good carpenters. I'm talking about master level. But like i said, most people will be average. I think you can still do a good job and not make carpentry the driving force in your life. If that makes sense. Thank you for watching, and I appreciate the comment.

    I just put in my application for an apprenticeship today, I’m in Kansas City so it’s under the Mid America Regional Council. My father was a union carpenter so I learned a lot growing up. Is there anything I should do to get ready before they call me/start training? Or just wait to hear back?

    • @unscriptedwithantonio
      @unscriptedwithantonio  8 місяців тому

      I would just be patient. The process takes a little while. If you don't hear anything in a week or two. Show up at the training center and ask to speak to someone. And see how you can speed the process up. If you call, it's easy to get ignored. Showing up in person it's a little more difficult.
