Question. After being accepted as an apprentice in the carpenters union, how do you get your first job? Does the hall dispatch you to your first job or do you have to go find your first job yourself?

You are for real. After a customer cheated me on a deck project refurbishing a deck with composite boards, . At the end refused to pay for my services. Plan to sue him. A union friend told me to join the union or you will be selling hotdogs at ball games. I called the union hall and they hired me on the door as z journeyman . With my experience, on my second assignment coming down off 4 x 4 lift I felt for the ground after they leveled it I dismounted my leg was damaged, they fired me for getting injured with permanent furlough. Denied work Comp unable to work for awhile Hired an attorney as the union said we stay out of it.

I'm 43. Once the drug test comes back in a couple days, I'm going in and paying my fees and everything else to become part of the Indiana union. I'm incredibly nervous. From no insurance until 3 months of steady work. To not having immediate work. And above all else, absolute 0 experience. The uncertainty, no insurance a minimum of 3 months and having Rheumatoid Arthritis. Having to buy all the tools needed. This is an extremely unnerving undertaking. What is motivating me is the potential to make very good money. But the uncertainty is almost crippling.

100 pct rue in Al that was said. Minus weather work in the rain, snow, heat, cold, wind, sunburns, . Even just scares, and cuts, carpentry rough and for the tough. Even tool breaks from a fall or usage, or stolen at the job site, even simply lost. One job found three of my tape Measures scattered around, no longer ya go ahead I have few in my tool box No longer, but your own I have six each one for finish d a purpose. My pack out cheaper will have x chain wrapped around it and locked In my union long layoffs 3 or more months off Also no per diem unless 75 miles or more from the capital. I like the work, the variety and the challenges. Also is not acoustic ceiling guys firing a pool to shoot into steel, a sheet metal working with metal snips air or Bater rather koi. All the lifts and warning sounds emitted

I got rid of the Makita. If you really want something better than Makita, Festool is kinda your next bet. What's interesting about the systainer system is the footprint as they don't take that much space. Now, Makita will be making an announcement soon in regards to their new storage organization known as Trail Lok. I am somewhat excited because now I have something to store my Makita tools. This way I can downsize my Festool storage system as they are expensive and that's how I have been using them for storing my Makita tools and all my finish neat gritty.

I was a carpenter for 6 years I loved work.. and happy i did it. I overcame my laziness and learn good work ethic. But I eventually gave it up. I realized the whole time almost nobody was willing to really teach me what was going on. Found myself onstantly treated like an underling and disrespected. Being surrounded by guys that literally hated their job and used that hate as motivation to work hard, regardless if I was down range or not. Many of them were drunk or high and lacked the social skills to communicate without being rude Little respect was given to the works just slam it together and get it done.

Not looking to start back at square 1 is there ways of testing out of certain things in the apprenticeship so you don’t just start out at just a laborer?

I did carpentry in the '90s lasted 6 months worst job ever had especially working outside with a noseems they bite the crap out of you from sunrise to sunset and the spray does not help you and the only people who make money are the foremans and the contractors. Also never work for big companies they treat you like crap always try to work for the small man or work for yourself. Me personally never be a carpenter only for a hobby

I’m a struggling freelance graphic designer who’s considering going into carpentry. The only downside is that it’ll take five years to become certified but my current situation hasn’t improved so it looks like this could be a decent career path. As someone who’s very artistic, I’m hoping carpentry will allow me to apply my skills Side note: Dude, Thanks so much for being very politically partisan in this video! As someone who is voting for Trump in a very hostile environment, I love videos like this. Im very sorry to hear all the horrific drama that happened in that story you mentioned. That’s awful that that happened but I’m glad the Union was able to sort it out professionally
