So what were the villagers saying to me? And how was my Hindi, did I make any sense? For anyone who was confused by the intro to this video since it was the same intro as my last video, the reason is because they were both recorded on the same day and I thought it was going to be one video. Then I realized it was getting too long and decided to split it into two videos. But the intro worked for both of them. Do you ever fear that you may get lost in India? I mean the country is huge and you could just go off somewhere and not know which way to go back. That is what it appears to me like at least.
sometimes i just wonder what the shopkeepers are there for? especially in the northern parts of India, when a tourist ask for something or hints, they dont even realize and pick up the cues and offer the tourist .. im watching this and screaming "then give him the bloody sprite" ... she only replied that there is sprite but does not go forward to offer.. this isnt the first time i have noticed this ... feels like they probably thought the tourist is here just to inquire if they have the drink, and then leave!
She's saying Jamuniya is the other way.
And she was asking you to stay in the shade and it's too hot out there.
She was saying that park your bike in shade it's hot , and yes Hindi is main language in North India everybody understands it .
Your Hindi was good 😊 ..Just add few words like Give = Dena , Take = Lena ... It will be helpful

9:35 - Dhoop hai udhar [There's sunlight there]. She's saying this because the seat will get hot in the sun.
9:42 - Peeche [To the back]. She's saying the village is the other way.
9:50 - Hum aapki baat nahi samajh rahe, nahi samajh paaye hum kya bol rahe ho [I can't understand what you're saying, failed to understand what you said.]
10:01 - Jamuniya jaana? [Heading to Jamuniya?]

10:50 - aise jaana aise [Go like this] She was probably gesturing where to go.
She would have been okay with you looking around. Your Hindi is good, but I suggest using an app like google translate sometimes. Can help you in situations like the villager and the cold drink one.

Wow! Hopping on a rickety bicycle and riding out into the blazing heat of the Indian countryside without a guide or a command of the local language takes independent travel to a whole new level. I really respect your spirit of adventure.

No, not really. This is what India looks like pretty much everywhere in that genreal region, as soon as you step out of the main spots, even a few minutes will be enough.

I never knew you were exploring the area around my maternal grandmas village. Although I live in a metro city in India but I do visit my grandma's place here in Bundelkhand area of Madhya Pradesh. This is not the right time I would say for anyone to visit as temperatures sore near 50 degress with hot winds blowing hard causing heat strokes,dehydration etc and on that you took a bicycle ride, I really salute you for this 👏🏻
Well the locals here are extremely helping and tourist friendly. I would have suggested you to take over the bicycle ride over betwa river to the nature reserve jungle safari just a mile away.
Nevermind you enjoyed and took the memories of the typical Indian small villages. I see the village is improving and being developed but don't think of people being poor here as most outsiders including urban Indians think so,they are pretty much earning to sustain themselves as you can see as well as benefitting by the govt initiatives and schemes. This area is self sufficient and improving day by day as compared to many north Indian poor rural areas.
The official language here is hindi but dialect is Bundelkhandi or Bundeli.
The villagers were offering you water first then asking you about your visit
Some villages are used to foreigners but some aren't, that's how they react. Take care, stay safe and don't ever give money considering them poor or something.
9:50 lady is saying 'I can't understand what you are saying'. Your 'Phir Milenge' was perfect. Please add these common ones also in your arsenal i.e. 1> Kaise Ho ? (How are you ? - informal) or Kaise Ho Aap ? (for elders), 2> Sab Thik Thak ? (All Good ? - fav word of Mr Bald also) , 3> Mein Dekhu ? (Can I see ?), 4> Aap ka Naam (what's your name) ? Mera Naam Gabriel. Mid day meal is a Govt Scheme for free meal to entice the village kids for coming to school & also to feed the poor students.

@@HeartistMurali Kind of a long story, but we both met each other at a critical time in both our lives and decided to take a leap of faith together. Some how the stars aligned we both found our soul mates. Believe me, our story would make a great book some day. I am so blessed to have the opportunity to share the rest of my life with some one whos heritage is so different than my own. I have learned so much about the Indian culture and am starting to believe that I may have been born on the wrong side of the world... lol
In May it is like a furnace in India if you are used to heat then it's all good. However northern mountain states and north east india will be much milder.
@@nikhilchauhan4154 Yes, that is what I have heard. We will be generally in MP state mostly around the Indore aria so I'm probably going to roast. But I am sure it will be worth it.

You are so, so lucky to have this amazing adventure ahead of you! And with an Indian wife, you will experience things, almost no other foreigner will. I would also like to know how you two got together, haha!
I was there 3 times, between 1998 and 2002. About 10 months all together. And i have just been to 5 places and the travelling between them.
Wishing you the grandest of times! In case you'll only stay in one place this time, i'm pretty darn sure, you will be back within the next year and explore some more, India is incredible!
A personal tip from me, bring enough Colloidal Silver, your stomach will thank you, or even give you a hug!
It was great to see the village. The kids were so cute. This is an awesome series. I was under the impression that more people spoke English in India. I don't know why I thought that. India is an incredible place.
You are not wrong. Many people do speak english, but most of them are in big towns and cities.
Probably because English speakers expect everyone to speak English.
This is a village that Gabe went to. Most people would understand only Hindi. I was quite surprised to see that young boy spoke fairly good English. That happened only because he is studying in a school where everything is taught in English. A lot of people in the towns and cities will understand and speak some form of English. Most places also have road signs and everything else in English too.

It's the best way to see everything at a leisurely pace--up close and personal. The countryside and the village life are fascinating, And It felt like I was on the bike--doing my own exploring. The heart of India is in it's villages, where 65% of it's 1.4 billion people live. Maybe visit when there is a festival or mela going on next time, it's much more lively then as everyone comes out. There is lots of music, noise and huge groups of women and girls with long flowing hair and bright colourful clothes, dancing in unison for celebrations. It's like a never ending sea of colours, their clothes make everywhere you look seem like a kaleidoscope 🤩.

Thanks for another great video! Love seeing the rural villages at a leisurely pace by bicycle. We had a big snowstorm here in Manitoba, Canada on April 13 and 14th and approximately 29 cm's of snow fell in 2 days. Lol

When i travelled in India back in 87 i bought a very basic Hindi phrasebook - makes all the defrence having even a few words

@@j.p.h.8126 Kudos to you man for having the courage to go out when it’s freezing cold out. Here schools get shut and employees call in sick when temperature gets around 5 degrees.😅
@@Aashu299 You get used to the cold weather here. We just wear alot of warm clothing. Summers are pretty warm around 25-35c. But winters can get cold. Here in the southern parts Sweden it can go down to about -20c. But normal winterday is usualy from -5c to -10c. But if you go to the northern parts above the arctic circle during winter it will be very cold like -40c or something like that. The coldest weather that i have experienced is aboyt -28c. And that was more then enough for me. 😄

I remember Orcha from the old days. Steam train from Jhansi used to take a couple of hours to get there. The Betwa river would flood regularly and the old road bridge was covered. Although some things have changed, the unhygienic conditions are still there. Too hot during the summer months.

I am not sure but the field with bunches of shocks was probably wheat. The shocks will be transported somewhere where it will be beaten to separate the wheat from the shaft. The rest of the dried material will be feed to their ruminant animals. There is no sign of anything newly built, and a lot of stuff falling down. It really appears the standard of living in this area is declining rather than progressing. There was absolutely no sign of any prosperity. I guess all those cows are good for one purpose, to provide fuel for cooking. BTW, somewhere in India they grow enough wheat to supply the country's needs and even export some to nearby countries such as Pakistan.
