Take a 18 inch long #12 romex wire, skin the rubber off of it when you get 2 pieces that is bear wire. take a pair of pliers and straighten them out, as straight as you reasonably can..then at 6 inches from one end make a 90 degree bend in both of them... at this point you will have 2 L's 6 inches by 12 inches. Get a large plastis straw ~~ i use Mcdonalds.. cut it in half ~ while holding one in each hand incert the short end of your wire from the topside down... The straw keeps you from squeezing the wires. hold your hands about 6 inches in front of your belly, and as level as you can while standing still, tilt you hand up or down until you have the long part of wire strait out in front of you pointing away from you...Your hands should be about 14 inches apart ..... while holding loosly and without tilting start walking slowley walk across the pipewhere you have the hole, as you aproach the pipe the 2 wands will cross each other, showing the direction the pipe is running,, Now move 5 or 10 feetto the left or right and hold the wands level again and slowly walk across the area you suspect the pipe is and repeat. i usually have one of the kids or other helper walk beside me with a box of pencils, every time the wires cross each other, have them stick pencil in ground,,,, then move again and repeat ,,, soon you can look back athe the line of pencils to see where thee pipe is.. TRust me it works ... i find my buried wires, down spouts, clay tile anything that i'm looking for... you can practice with a piece of PVC just lying on top of the ground or a garden hose just to prove to yourself that it works... then walk around your house and see what you can finf after you finish the job.
