@RolandHitchens-i3w thank you. Yea the dobermans are our chuppies children puppies. Thanks for the support and I hope you subscribe. God bless you and your family as well
Heart wrenching story, both for your dad, your family and the car. 64 galaxies have always had a special place and i regret selling mine decades ago. What brought me here is that i recently picked up a 66k mile 64 Mercuray Marauder 2 dr fastback. Saw your pic and wanted to see what spindles you used as ive got 18in , torgue thrust look alikes on mine and want to drop it though keep it drivable to haul my grandkids around. Little did i know this video would take me n such a different path and grab my soul. Growing up in the body shops since the early 70's, being taught by my uncles who started in the 50's, we were always taught do it once and do it right.still today many of those cars look as they day they left not only there shop, but those of us who went on doing our own as well. Simply put if the metal isnt treated correctly rather metal prep or epoxy coatings nothing will stick its simply a pretty band aid. As someone else mentioned body filler creates heat and starts sweating the monent its start curing, therefore creating rust below and losing any adhesion. Such a shame regardless of name or status that any shop would do this. Though im on the opposite side of coasts from you feel free to reach out should you have any questions or i can help in any manner. As for my merc, it will be the last car i do for myself to pass on ,though it wont be a frameoff or as exoctic as a build, it will be something i pass on knowing my grandson can enjoy for decades without issues. God bless and best of luck to you your dad and family and this gorgeuos galaxie. Liked subbed and look forward to seeing this gorageous galaxie finished for your dad to njoy🫂 ❤ 🙏
I love you and I love the Galaxie story - I also love (b/c I'm their dog-mom) those Dobies (Weezy & Mae Bella) are now FAMOUS like their daddy, Jubee!!!
The car is so special, and has the potential to be so WICKED, and it's your dad's! Strip it ,and do it right! I don't care how much of a name the people that did the paint the first time, they SUCK! I can't wait to see how things turn out on your dad's car. I subscribed to your channel as soon as I saw it ! Really hope everything works out! Much love and respect! PEACE ✌️
Sorry to see your dads car this way you worked so hard on it. Its a big car to strip, I'd say we need to get a crew together for a weekend and sand it all off. So it can get prepped correctly, epoxied, and ready for filler.
Oh no what a nightmare! I feel so sorry for you and your Dad i pray youll find someone to do it right for you Its too nice of a car not to do it right!
Wow! I feel your pain on the paint job! What a gut punch. Horrible results. I was thinking on best way to strip the car but it looks like there is a skim coat of filler on the bare metal. Not sure a chemical stripper would remove the filler. I agree with what Roger MrFireman posted on the filler direct to bare metal without Epoxy primer. Maybe chemical stripper on the paint followed by DA and sand paper.....but you gotta protect that trunk paint!! First step after you get her stripped to bare metal is gonna be to shoot Epoxy primer on the car to protect and prevent the rust . We could do that step in the shop.
Your story of your Dad struck me like a bolt of lightning. Made me cry and gave peace in my heart. 🙏😊 ❤ God bless your Dad and Mom, your whole family and project 64 Galaxy. Thank you
Thank you Nathan. My coma was 45 days from strep pneumonia. I was in the hospital for 83 days. Twice they told my wife Pat that she should probably make some funeral plans……but GOD……. Had other plans for me. I went from a drunk to a deacon in 2 years. GOD has surely blessed me. That was 16 years ago and I haven’t touched alcohol since. I was a functioning alcoholic as I run a machine shop here in town.
Great video Son. And yes I cried and videoed you leaving with Lara Lor-Van. She’ll roll one day. Thank You Son for all you’re doing. I Love You All. Thanks for watching. Like, share-and subscribe.
Kenneth, God bless you sir for raising such a fine young man with such character, it's truly a reflection of who you are and the strength within your family. Stay strong and see this thru, you got this. Losing my son 5 yrs ago come Jan, truly wiped me out and it's been tough, simply being honest here. With 4 grandkids and esp my 11yr old grandson being the car nut I've always been, its time again I pass that torch and build 1 last car that he too can be proud of, as he claimed my 64 merc fastback b4 I even bought it. As I watched this video which took me well away from what I thought I was searching for in it, he was sitting in the merc cleaning n dreaming. Hope this helps you find some comfort and know there are those of us out here that do truly care and want to do what is right. God Bless 🫂 ❤ 🙏
Oh BTW, yes I said from the start to my grandson the 390 is staying , though will get some upgrades like the factory aluminum 4 bbl intake I have as well as other goodies, should've seen the grin on his face the 1st time he got to ride in it, priceless memories for sure, esp when he said poppy let's see what this big block will do, lol. Much love n Respect Kenneth to you n your wonderful family. 🙏
So I’m going to take a shot at what they may have done, old school bodymen like to use filler direct to metal, in the hardner for the filler it has peroxide in in and when you mix the filler and harder there is a heat reaction which will cause moisture, also if the filler was direct to metal moisture in the air will go thru the filler to the metal and start rusting. The key is to seal the metal in epoxy quickly and then do filler on top of epoxy that way there is a barrier between the metal and filler, for years this was a controversial topic but if you look at the high end top builders they will always use epoxy over bare metal. Just my 2 cents, sorry you are having to redo it, it is a beautiful car.
I think you’ve hit the nail on the head, Roger. I think the combination of the DTM filler as a skim coat and unknown characteristics of the components on top led to the adhesion failure
I love the engine too. A Robert Pond all aluminum 427. Trick Flow heads. All roller. Scat crank. Kugelkomponents cast iron headers. Built 700r4 trans. Speed Gemsadapter. She should be pretty quick for her size.
I think we’ve been very Christian like….. in not calling out the shop that did the paint. We’re the type folks that take the high road and do what JESUS would do. Every one makes mistakes but the trust issue is gone now. We’ll figure it out.
I would strip the whole thing clean up the rust. Who ever painted it did not have a very good filtration system which allowed the moisture in with the paint and if not taking care of will continue to blaster the paint and rusted the body of the car. So yes I would like I said strip the whole car down prep it and reprime and repaint it the right way. You can do it with God on your side. SSIG -(Stay Strong In God) and with FIP -(Faith In Prayer) Everything else will work out.
The car speaks for itself, the condoms for tires and barrel rims is to much. That kills the whole car. Not a fan of rubber bands and oversized wheels on anything especially a classic. But rest of the car is perfect.
Glory to God. I love your story. Love the Doberman's. My first time watching. You're a great son. You're truly Blessed 🙏
