You'll never see this comment, but that's okay... I wonder if others, like me, have discovered your channel and are now going back to the beginning (in addition to watching the new videos) and enjoying the journey you have taken up to my point in time (November 2021). This video made my heart happy, see that BIG fellow (Male? who knows, he was BIG) find the door outta the cage and mosey out into the forest. What a relief. What a happy video. My heart is happy at seeing that big fellow walk free, knowing how stressed he had to have been and so glad you didn't decide to short his life just because he was in the wrong place at the wrong time and probably just smelled some cat food. What a huge beautiful animal I would never want to meet! :)
aha! I released a skunk last night. No one got hurt and no one stinketh! Thanks for your encouraging words in this video. My skunk RAN away with tail in the air and so did I. Maybe that is where the phrase "I high tailed it out of there" came from. LOL

New Hampshire. CRAAAAAAAAAAAACKING up. We had a problem with skunks getting in our basement when I was a kid so we had a specially designated, ratty old sleeping bag(and old Carhartt coveralls in case there was spray). Plenty big, wraps right around the whole cage for the drive. You did great!
I feel your pain brother. A few years ago I must have trapped a half dozen skunks, but none of the ground hogs I was trying to trap. I've been told the best place to take them is in the rich neighborhoods, they can afford a professional to remove them. :-)
I know I'm 3 years late to comment, but if you want to catch ground hogs and not skunks, only set the trap during the day. Disarm it at night as they are not active after sundown!
I think the new challenge you have opened is how many times you want to catch and release that same skunk. I think you're going to have to move him a lot farther than the other end of your property because that is his range.
Some of the things you get into, on your farm is absolutely HILARIOUS. That being said, Kudos to you for humanly being able to release that skunk, without harm to you OR him 🤣👍
You surprised me at the end. It was a nice to be reassured that I can do this. I’m thinking to use my recycle bin to scoop up the trap before placing it in my mini van.
A "trophy" catch-and-release that you will remember for all of your days with enormous value that is difficult to measure but is essential to growth. Thank you for sharing!
You Sir are a hero. Skunks are special. I had a female come to my porch for a snack every night. Then one night she brought her babies. Very trusting gesture. Kudos to you. Today I subscribed to your channel.
Me and my friend both own historic houses in the city and both have decent sized houses and we just found out a family of 4 dug their way into the bottom of his house thru my yard, we just watched your video and I told him ill catch him your in charge of releasing 😂 thanks for the heart warming vid man
I just did it all by myself!!! And didn't get sprayed! And you are totally right! I could have done cartwheels. After I opened the door and told him "Come on out you're free!!" and he did! LOL! No smell anywhere! Yay!!!
Thanks so much for this video. it's 11pm and I just heard my skunk trap snap in the cellar. But there is no way I'm taking it out now. I'll wait till morning. I loved your NH joke. I'm in VT too. thanks again.
Just want to give thanks for your video! I was able to save an animal and without the stench of its spray nor of mankind’s thirst of killing absolutely every animal, tree, plant and fish on earth. THANK YOU!
I really appreciated your video. I have a skunk problem. I know it is a skunk because I can watch the jerk on my security camera at night. I am going to set up my have a heart trap but of course the problem is what to do with it once you have a trapped. Offender video to be very encouraging. Thanks for making it.
Loved this and great job safely removing the skunk! I had to do it the other night myself-caught one in a large trap and before bedtime I went out to check it and sure enough, there was a skunk. I had NO idea how to deal with it but I had my LED flashlight with me, so knowing they don't see well, plus knowing how bright the light was, I shined the light directly at it's face and it backed to the rear of the cage, so while holding the light on it, I managed to open and prop up the door, then slowly backed away and moved the flashlight away from it and it slowly walked out and then booked it into the woods! Like you, it was such a good feeling, but now after Googling how to set one free from a trap and learning you should cover the trap, I was even more proud that I managed to do it without covering the trap, lol! If it had been daytime, I'd have had to use a tarp or towel for sure, but at night, the flashlight worked great, as did my naivety, ha, ha!
Love the ducks man. I am glad you are taking extra measures to protect those ducks. I hate those weasels. You caught a skunk oh wow. Wouldn't want to be sprayed by that thing. LOL. Glad you showed pity on the skunk and didn't kill it. I was on the edge of the seat while watching you release that skunk. 😎
So glad the ducks are returning to normal. Adorable how you choreographed the skunk release with that Buster Keaton-esque music. Perfect for a skunk release, kept me on the edge of my seat. Will it spray or won't it? Bravo!!! Also, I never doubted for a moment that you would release the skunk. You are kind. God bless.
United we Stand Yeah, I know. I still don’t kill what doesn’t attack my coop. He knew it was a weasel/mink causing the trouble, not a skunk. I support him letting it go.
TarantuLady It wasn’t smart. It WILL be back, and unless he "proofs" his coop there will be more dead ducks. The bait may have lured him into the trap but it did NOT lure him to the coop.
@@tarantulady8565 ,. Me too! I used to remove skunks from residential neighborhoods. People didn't want them spraying their pets and stinking up their yards, but they didn't want them killed. I'd set out traps, like his, catch them and take them to the woods. They'd pay me 75 dollars per skunk back in the early 80s. I never killed any of them and I've captured 100s.
Thanks Morgan! Yes, I do have a skunk in my trap this morning. Something was eating my feral cat’s food. I trapped a raccoon last time. This time it was a skunk. Wish me luck!

Today, 8/18,2021, I mustered my courage after watching your video and released one in the wood. It had made my life a living hell .........but I am happy that I released him
Good job. No reason to kill an animal unless its a problem. Around here I hear all the time what trouble fox are causing. I have them around and the farm and never had an issue. There wonderful to watch. I moved from the city to the country so I could experience all these critters not kill them.
Excellent video! I used a large 10x11x30 have-a-fart trap for the first time and found a super easy way. Skunk was very quiet, just looking back at me. Some tail raising but no spray. An easy way for me was to take a 3/4x1x10 foot piece of lumber, drive a nail into the side near the end, just enough to hold it. Used the wood/nail to roll the cage over onto its top. Slowly so as not to upset the skunk. The top lever (now on the ground side) should have fallen open to permit the door to open, using the wood/nail to push the swing-down lever back at the bottom (was the top). Easy way is to hold the lever back and use a 2nd piece of wood to push the door back into the cage until the door is about 1/2 way open and wedge it to stay open. Then slip around to the back (where the skunk has moved by now) and poke and talk at him until he walks out, looks back at you like you're an moron, then ambles away. Just be careful not to trip the door and let it close again. State law forbids transporting most wild animals claiming it could spreads disease, which means paying someone $100 or destroy it yourself (Playing Joe Biden speeches works well although that may be considered cruel by some.)
Can you collect rainwater in the vicinity of the ducks' area so that you will not have to carry water so far? I am so pleased that you would not consider killing the skunk. Now, "face to face" with a skunk is A-okay. It's tail to face one should avoid. So, kudos to you, from me and, no doubt, a myriad of your viewers for your kindness!
I have caught a ton of Skunks. Your mistake and my advise is. Keep the cage covered if he sees you it might be unpleasant. With the cage covered he/she will just wander off never looking back. Second, here is the big one with all critters keep the open end tilted UP. They will always go up hill. You had the opening tilted down. Warning if a Skunk does not stink or is out in the daytime. Be careful and don't let it live. Good chance the Skunk has Rabies.
carry an old bed sheet hands to your pecks, with the sheet hanging down in front you so its narrow like your body but hides your movement. Walk slowly towards the trap while talking to the skunk in a soothing calm quiet voice. Lay the sheet over the trap, pick it up and carry it away. If you need to release it. Use a release clip of a piece of wire to wire the door open. Pull the sheet back a little and just tap on the back of the covered trap with your foot... We've used this method for decades. I've never been sprayed and have dealt easily hundreds of skunks. If you experience a random skunk smell that comes and goes is almost always a possum. They loved to roll in dead skunk to keep predators away from them.
