I've been daily driving a 1988 Honda Prelude 2.0Si 4WS since I purchased it in 2002. Over the years, I have done all the repairs and maintenance myself, and sometimes with the help of a friend. Early on in the ownership of my Prelude, the engine broke a rod, but fortunately the damage was not catastrophic.. Performed a rebuild with a used crankshaft and set of New Old Stock connecting rods (fortunate finds), rod and crank bearings, 3 new valves, and all the other parts needed to refresh the engine such as rings, gaskets, seals, timing components and clutch set were installed, along with a very mild port & polish on the cylinder head intake and exhaust runners while waiting for parts. The engine has been extremely reliable with basic maintenance and periodic tune-up over the years. Around 2009, I replaced the aging exhaust with a full stainless 4-2-1 OBX Header, and stainless 2.5" Catback exhaust from Legal Speed Designs (LSD), which has, in my own opinion, the most desirable exhaust note of any catback system available for the Prelude. I have often driven newer and more powerful vehicles, which are sometimes fun and certainly faster, but I always find the handling dynamics of the Prelude to be highly satisfying. It is a really enjoyable and rewarding car to own, drive and maintain.
I have daily driven my prelude for only a couple of months until it decided to break . Watching the videos is definitely giving me the motivation to finish my build with my 91 prelude

I also highly recommend the 3rd and 4th gen Accord if you want more room for friends or stuff. All Hondas from the 80s to 90s are fun and deceptively simple.
Yoo I just got my ba4 in Germany, my drivers license last exam will be in a few weeks, but in retrospect even now I can say having a car earlier to work on and get it running like you want to with the help of friends is such a good idea!

It's actually a "Limited Lifetime Warranty" on all safety restraints and harnesses, but in the manual it states for the "Useful life of the vehicle" so depending on the condition of the vehicle and the dealership service department's discretion, they may or may not do this service under warranty. I plan on asking my local Honda dealer for this repair on my 1988 Prelude 2.0Si 4WS, but I'm waiting until I repair a couple of body issues before I take it in, to reduce the chance of refusal. My seatbelts will still lock when pulled, but in cold and humid weather, the seatbelts do not like to retract like they should.
I had mine done in 2009, entirely free, in fact they gave it back to me better than I thought they would because they replaced all the clips in the door panel too. They were billing corporate about $1,000 for the work...they're HAPPY to do it. Only catch was that they only had black. Oh well.

You can find coilovers for the 3rd gen still. 2 companies I know make them, Megan racing and k sport. Front lip is for a 96’ Accord.

Great car, great video. Keep taking care of that timeless lude.
Greeting from Santiago, Chile.
Mine was awesome, the 4ws was the pretty cool, u could take corners and curves at speed limits and never hear the tires, the only thing I thought was bad was the gearing but that could've been just mine
Was yours and an auto or manual?
@ConnorLee manual, it smoked really bad, I paid 1000 for a rebuild but got beat on that cuz it still smoked ended up trading and regretted it since
At home in bed icing my knee. My first car was a 1988 4ws prelude si I miss it so much.
Hope you recovered brotha! Thanks for tuning in!

Thanks mate, you should check it out :-)
Seatbelts only lock on collision. They’re loose like that normally because they’re door mounted belts and you leave them buckled in to exit the vehicle with them still buckled.
Either way I’d take them to honda to get them redone and make sure they’re functioning properly and not actually broken broken . Lifetime warranty for seatbelts/any recalls/safety hazards discovered later on in the cars line
Really?! Even on an 88?!?! I know “lifetime” to but I’d be shocked
@@ConnorLee yeah just go to a Honda establishment and ask to get your seatbelts redone for your 88
ayo i’m watching rn in school in pennsylvania. love the car bro
hahaha taking proper notes I see
You: no push start button ,no airbag, and seatbelt didnt lock
Me: DAMN I WANT A PRELUDE!!!
Safety what!?
