I've been daily driving a 1988 Honda Prelude 2.0Si 4WS since I purchased it in 2002. Over the years, I have done all the repairs and maintenance myself, and sometimes with the help of a friend. Early on in the ownership of my Prelude, the engine broke a rod, but fortunately the damage was not catastrophic.. Performed a rebuild with a used crankshaft and set of New Old Stock connecting rods (fortunate finds), rod and crank bearings, 3 new valves, and all the other parts needed to refresh the engine such as rings, gaskets, seals, timing components and clutch set were installed, along with a very mild port & polish on the cylinder head intake and exhaust runners while waiting for parts. The engine has been extremely reliable with basic maintenance and periodic tune-up over the years. Around 2009, I replaced the aging exhaust with a full stainless 4-2-1 OBX Header, and stainless 2.5" Catback exhaust from Legal Speed Designs (LSD), which has, in my own opinion, the most desirable exhaust note of any catback system available for the Prelude.
I have often driven newer and more powerful vehicles, which are sometimes fun and certainly faster, but I always find the handling dynamics of the Prelude to be highly satisfying. It is a really enjoyable and rewarding car to own, drive and maintain.

It's actually a "Limited Lifetime Warranty" on all safety restraints and harnesses, but in the manual it states for the "Useful life of the vehicle" so depending on the condition of the vehicle and the dealership service department's discretion, they may or may not do this service under warranty. I plan on asking my local Honda dealer for this repair on my 1988 Prelude 2.0Si 4WS, but I'm waiting until I repair a couple of body issues before I take it in, to reduce the chance of refusal. My seatbelts will still lock when pulled, but in cold and humid weather, the seatbelts do not like to retract like they should.

Best Daily Ever! ...you can feel and be part of the driving experience in a prelude. Its stock power is ok but the handling, balance and visibility are incredible. Best seats (ricaro) for its time too! It was waaay ahead of the game for the late 80s.
FUN FACT: The 1988 3rd gen prelude was the fastest car beating even supercars, Ferrari's and Corvette's, etc in the slalom test that year.

It ate half shafts--put in 3sets before I sold it. Presently I have a low mileage 2000 SH, IMO not as good as my 88. It rattles, leaks, hard shifting, harder to work on. Seatbelts only lock on collision. They’re loose like that normally because they’re door mounted belts and you leave them buckled in to exit the vehicle with them still buckled.
