Lyrics on screen
Travis: "I think the drummer stands our in this song"
Jordan Rudess: "Hold my beer"
i wish i could unhear and unsee dt and relive each of their songs like revelations to me, just forget about them and find them once again....
That's why they are the Best progresive metal band ever!!!
1. Jordan Rudess (keyboards) invented a musical app for the ipad called Geo shred. That's the touchscreen he's playing just above the main keyboard.
2. The other instrument he pivots to is called a Continuum Fingerboard. It's, more or less, a keyboard with one surface you can slide over in any direction. With added effects and depending on the direction you slide in you can bend notes, add wah sounds, or flanging, or do what he did in the show.
3. This song is the final of five songs called the 12 Step Suite. They were all written by Mike Portnoy as they deal with his process of going through AA. The five songs in the suite are; The Glass Prison, This Dying Soul, The Root of All Evil, Repentance, and The Shattered Fortress.
Of note is Mike's long-standing habit to grab bits from songs and add them to subsequent compositions. In this example, each song is represented in the final piece we just watched you react to. I strongly recommend, when you have the time, to listen to the five songs in order (privately or here, either way, but it's a lot to take in musically). This way you'll get a glimpse of what a genius songwriter Portnoy is, and how well the songs work together to convey the message of hope and help.
Love the reactions, keep it going, and for a different side of Dream Theater, may I recommend This Is The Life. Shorter, but still powerful song.
thank you for the kind words thank you for the info and you are awesome!!!
@@TheWolfHunterZ The Continuum is made by a company called Haken. They make 3 different versions..The half Continuum that Jordan has here. the full board thats a full 88 keys, and the "Strip" which is a narrow space saver that he has now.
The 12 Step Suite has other songs that form the beginning, The Mirror and Lie but those 2 do NOT represent the 12 steps that you go through in AA whereas the other 5 songs are the actual steps.
8:33 was the epic moment when Mike Mangini forever silenced the haters.
If you guys want to see Dream Theater's pinnacle, that would be Scenes From a Memory (an album) all at once. Listening to it in any other way would be a waste. You've already seen/heard the instrumental portion. The album is an entire story that includes an affair. However, if you'd still rather dip your toes, and see a softer side, Hollow Years live from Budokan will grab your heart then the solo will melt your brain.
I can tell you like Mangini, he's a monster on drums. You can check out his drum solo. He can do more with one hand than most people can do with two. He can also play different rhythm patterns with each limb and it's pretty insane. He gets a lot of hate from old school Dream Theater fans. However they can never deny his skill.
I hope you continue listening to more Dream Theater, they're a unique talent.
Yes metropolis 2 the full album PLEASE
That device, Jordan Rudess, keyboardist using is called Haken Continuum or Continuum Fingerboard. It is sold by Haken Audio of Champaign, Illinois.
Haken has a Mini version too
Love the band Haken...
@@musicmademejester same !
Ever since James La Brie got his voice back on track dream theater have been amazing.
I saw them live in London in February right before the pandemic, It was amazing, so much heavier live than you would think just a savage gig.
I absolutely love watching you react to Dream Theater. Did you know they wrote the best song in the history of the world? Yeah, it's called Octavarium. :D
This. 💯
They are instrumental gods
One of the cool things about dream theater is that they spread songs like chapters across several albums. Many of the riffs in the song are arrangements of riffs from the song "The Glass Prison" from 6 degrees of inner turbulence". An amazing song in its own right. This is sort of a chapter 2 of that song cycle.
I was beginning to think I was crazy! Listening to this for the first time and hearing what sounds like the glass prison. An amazing song as it is. Love that they took the heavy pieces out and expanded on them!
Haven't checked every comment, but if it wasn't mentioned already that other thing with the red surface that Jordan was playing is called a Continuum. It's got a pressure-sensitive mesh surface that responds to your touch.
Just found your channel and have been enjoying your reacts so far! I like how into the music you guys get, haha.
That song is the lat part of a series of songs (12 step suite about sobriety). That's why there were various melodies in that song as they're from those previous songs. Really recommend you start with the first or second one The Glass Prison (no official live version) or This Dying Soul (Live at Budokan).
FYI: Lyrics is written by their Ex-drummer Mike Portnoy.
^ About the 12 steps of Alcoholics Anonymous.
Suzi Q rocking that "We Can Do It" female poster look!💪😏
That's a continum finger board Jordan is playing all the guys are epic in this group
Dream Theater is my fave of all time! Just found them myself 4.5 years ago!
I love Dream Theater and I also love watching you listen to their songs 😊
Super Epic! drum fill from 14:20. Can't miss it
Dream Theater - Sacrificed Sons
Dream had a few lineup changes over the years. On their 2nd drummer , 3rd keyboardist, and believe it or not . James Lebrie is their 3rd singer but has been in the band since 1991.
Thrid? I only remember one before him..
The shattered fortress is the fifth song of a series of five songs which start with the glass prison. This dying soul, the root of all evil and repentance are the other three...crazy good
I followed Dream Theater since 10 years ago, and i think this is the real music band in the world, they make music so life, complicated but powerfull, full feelings and emotions, and deep.. they not just make a music, but they make a art masterpieces.. next checkout *The Spirit Carries On* its a simple song, but it can make you mind blown.
Hermoso, saludos desde México, les recomiendo todo ese concierto es magnífico!!
The best god dam Prog Rock band in the fucking world period ok woooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
Have always loved this band! Great musicians all.
DT is the 2nd band after Rush that could make me go "how did they do that"
I also pay more attention to John Myung for few years back, i think he's the best in this band. He is the one that keep the other member do very well.
that 14.40 is from their song THE GLASS PRISON .. Highly recommended
For the next pls do “Dream Theater-Hollow Years Live at Budokan” ... you will love it trust me..
Dream theater is the best and the most talented band ever... ( IMO) .. well its fact anyway🤣.. keep rocking guys nice reactions its fun to watch you🤘🏽❤️
probably the most. back in their prime their limits were only themselves
The part that starts at about 12:00 is a reprisal from the song The Root of all Evil from their Octavaruim album. It's a rocker!
Mike Mangini, several time world record holder for beats per minute. Over 1200 bpm. He's a machine!!!
Solid reaction guys lets have this dying soul next. A real heavy headbanging track 🤘
“It’s going down”
i am loving your dream theater reactions, keep doing
Dream Theater - Octavarium, is an amazing song.
DT is my favorite still since 1992
Seen dream theater since 2010 even have the majesty symbol tatted on my shoulder seen them live so many times great video ! 👍🏻 love you’re guys work!
It's like a pleasant shock. You'll never be the same.
The drummer Mike Mangini. is the fastest in the world doing a drum roll with 1 hand. His playing speaks for itself. Not taking anything from Mike Portnoy. They are the greatest and will never be outdone. PERIOD
Dio - Holy Diver
Queensryche - Take Hold of the Flame or I Don’t Believe in Love
7:18 both jaws drop lol
Love this!!! DT is amazing!!!🙏🏻❤️
please hear me out and react to Beyond This Life (live at Budokan) and prepare to be completely amazed by the improv middle section!!!
These guys technically are the Olympians of musicians. Top of the mountain. Great reaction Wolf Hunterz. Peace.
Pagan's Mind - Osiris's Eyes

Dead By April - As A Butterfly
So glad you guys are enjoying DT! I'll second instrumedley if possible...no vocals needed on that custom masterpiece
u guys r so cute and realistic.
This song is SO fucking heavy.
I want one those 7 string Petrucci signature guitars.
I suggest you react to black clouds and silver linings, particularly “A nightmare to remember, and the best of times”.
Jaw dropping talent? Lol.. They're the legend guyss.. Each of them learned music from school.. Even the drummer is the professor in music university 😂
Super band
Dream Theater son unas bestias.
this is why dream theater live is my thing,,
i mean dream theater live was much entertaining,
Great reaction!!! Next has to be "Breaking all illusions" from the same DVD (Breaking the Fourth Wall)
That red keyboard (without keys) that Jordan's playing is called Continuum, you just slide your fingers all over the board. Really Travis, you should see yourself reacting to these. You dropped your jaw literally within seconds already in the start of the video. :D and behind the drums is (since 2010) is the master himself, professor in Berklee, mr. Mike Mangini. ;)
Dream Theater: in the name of god... live at budokan... please react!!!! Kiss from Brazil
from chile
You must react to Octavarium (Live) by DT. Jordan uses the Continuum beautifully in that one.
This keyboard solo will blow your mind. From the Score album.
Revisiting this reaction, hard to take in that 2 years have gone by... you listened to this song before finding out about Mike Portnoy's "12-step suite", with 5 songs spanning 5 different albums and apparently in random order. In fact, this song is a mishmash of the 4 songs in the "suite" that preceded it, with callbacks throughout referring to the story told in the "suite". You later reacted to "Glass Prison" (about a year ago?) but didn't make the connection (Glass Prison is the first song of Mike Portnoy's "suite"). A good example of this in this song is where they reprise the start of "Glass Prison" (at 14:34 in this video), ending the "suite" the same way they started it 5 albums earlier. Nothing short of genius the way they layered this song with chords, riffs, rhythms and even lyrics from the four previous songs. Listening to the "suite" in its proper order, it's a fitting finish for the whole thing.
Hey wolf Hunters you guys are amazing I love watching your videos I'm a die-hard fan and I have a request for you to watch a video of Dream Theater the shattered Fortress live at the Boston Opera House breaking the fourth wall DVD
OK. Now you have dived into some of the best musicians in the world.
yes i agree!
i am a simple man, i see Dream Theater and Opeth.. i click
They can do more 'accessible' music too... Check out their video for the song "The Looking Glass". Should have been a huge radio hit.....
Genius band 😍🥰
Please react to Breaking illusion also.. u guys have been watching DT Boston live so i am sure u guys will find it epic.
The red keyboard you see is a fingerboard....his design
Buena recomendación weon jajaj 🤘
It's a Haken fingerboard......his patent......his design. It is really prevalent on the live version of Octavarium live
FYI James Le Bre was a contestant on the stupid show called American Idol and was laughed off stage by the ignorant judges. In fact, he and dream theater has won so many Grammies it crazy. I was pissed at those stupid judges and started a ban on the stupid show it is no longer airing from what I understand. I love dream theater and have their entire collection on my laptop, every song is just like this one
Dream Theater already had six albums out, five of which James LaBrie was vocalist on when American Idol started. In other words, he had a professional singing job already, he had no need for American Idol. Also, Dream Theater hasn't won a Grammy yet, though they have been nominated. Yes, American Idol is off the air, after running for 15 years.
There's already a lot great about this band. No need to make up stories.
That American Idol bit was just a troll and not real. Are you that gullible?
easily the best song from the twelve step suite
Lost not forgotten...please..
After forever ‘dreamflight’ next pretty please 😁🤞🏻
Horry shit Mike Mangini goes off in this song! big time!
That thing the keyboard player was playing it is called Hakan's Continioum board honey.
I wish they knew all the other Dreamtheater songs that sorta get revived in this song.
Listen and Learn!!!
This is what happens when everybody in the band and I'm saying this from their entire history they've had a numerous talented keyboardist they've had three different ones two different drummers and two singers but this is what happens when you have a band where everybody can do leads in all are virtuoso players
I can't tell if you no-sold Petrucci's guitar solo or were astounded into silence.
Next Dream Theater - Instrumedley ( Mike Portnoy on drum cam)
that 11.17 part is from their song THE ROOT OF ALL EVIL from the album OCTAVARIUM .. I suggest you to react this
You should also check out Petrucci solo album Suspended Animation.
Театралы выпускники музыкальной школы в Беркли, ребята прислушайтесь к ним, у них есть чему поучиться, они поклонники Iron Maiden, Metallica, Yes, Rush, Pink Floyd, Queen
I honestly would've gone with the album version because it starts off at a low volume and slowly goes up to full blast.
Avatar - Bloody Angel
Where is all Amorphis songs!?
Ah Jordan and his Haken Continuum
Ragazzi siete forti e simpatici e i Dream Theater sono mitici😍🤩😘
Un italiano 🤟 Those were grooves and odd timeZ .
And in that concert John Petrucci was using the triaxis a digital form of amplifier AND effects which is nothing in comparison to his jp-2c mesaboogie all this super songs i want to hear them watch It with the new gear
I thought he was using the Mark V that time lol, thanks for pointing that out
Check out their original drummer Mike Portnoy. Please react to Dark Eternal Night from their 2007 Chaos in Motion tour. He's a beast on the drums too.
erra snowblood reaction
That "thing" that Jordan Rudess is playing is called a SEABOARD they are relatively new on the market and he is an embassador for them.
very cool thanks!! its awesome
The Seabord it's in the lower section. Jordan plays the continuum on the upper section in this song.
i mean the are so good in every way and their songs everything! that makes almost all the others sounds like garbage!!! .You can actually feel a lot of emotions also in their music! and a lot of people cant understrand that ! i dont get it!
Mike Mangini is a god.
Best of Mike mangini 🥶 more react DT please ,,old version like
