Thank you so much! I have repeatedly looked through the rules, but this kind of teach is so much more effective for me. I love how clear, concise and organized your teaches are. Might have to get this one to the table tonight.😊
I'm currently wading through the rules. Haven't played any version of GWT before so this video is extremely helpful, thanks very much! I did notice one rule though regarding placement of discs during the Wellington steps. You mentioned that the disc you take from your player mat must match the white or black spot that you are placing on the board, but in the rules on pg 9 (half way down the second column) it states "1. A disc from a disc space with white corners can be placed onto any trading post space. 2. A disc from a disc space with dark corners, however, can only be placed onto a trading post space that also has dark corners."
Thanks for the great video. My copy just arrived. Being my first venture into the GWT trilogy it looked really overwhelming but you've clarified it really well. Can't wait to play it now!
I found it very helpful for the small things I missed. This rule book is much better than the base game but there's so much more to this game it's a lot to absorb.
Thank you , I've spent days reading the rules and attempting a playthrough but this still cleared up a lot of points for me and, more importantly, given me an insight on how I might teach my two friends at the game sesh tomorrow! 😀
Thank you! I just bought this the other day. Videos like this are so helpful to send to my group early so we don't need a "teach" before we play. I'm interested to see how the new elements of this one plays out.
32:46: Not sure about those two objective cards. Doesn't each mean "reach step X on the expedition track"? In this case they would not accumulate to "reach step 10" I think.
I see the publisher sent you the yet to be published Tips expansion. I am interested in learning how to play it with the game. Wait, Tips as in strategy help. Nevermind!
Very well explained (although my opinion my be biased as I've played other GWT before). I'd consider using a pointer of some sort instead of finger, should take less space in the frame.
@@MeepleUniversity Never heard of anyone building their personal presence using just a finger. :D But I'm no UA-cam content creator. Do as you wish and keep creating good videos like this one.
Not a big thing, but just curious: Are any hazards tiles part of the mix of B tiles, or is it 100% bonus tiles? If only bonus tiles, at Welington it means you will always add one bonus tile that pushes the game clock forward, unlike in the base game where you could tweak that to a small extent by choosing to put out a hazard/teepee tile that shows up instead of a worker (which I think was an interesting nuance even though far from essential).
@@MeepleUniversity I thought the 1x auxiliary was “pay 1 pound move the certificate marker up one space” or 2x “pay $4 to move certificate 2 spaces” it looks like it would only really be good to gain the gold.
@@evannadeau3938 If you've unlocked the auxilary action, then it's $2 for 1 temporary certificate (or $4 for 2). But then, those temporary certificate might just be the extra certificate you need to reach certain posts and put your disc in a better spot.
I have played the first edition of the original game twice, and realized i disliked the game. This version is no different. For me, still the same predictable gameplay with a different type of animal...no thanks.
Wish the buildings looked anything but American. Colonized by England, so that style would have been rare if non existent. Also, I wonder if there's anything so do with the Maori people, or whether it's just another white washed version of our history?

That was really well done, particularly for new players but also for those of us coming from previous Great Western Trail games.

yes, I noticed it as well, it is the same in all the other GWTs
Yes confirmed:
White bordered discs may also be palced on black bordered spaces (on trading posts and harbours)
Thank you for checking
@@MeepleUniversity You actually can place black ones on white spaces, but only if you don't have any more white spaces discs on your player board.
That was one of the best game overview sections that I've seen in an HTP video! Great job!

Hooooly cow that's a lot of game. Going to try and play this with my wife this weekend. This was massively helpful. Thank you.
Thank you! I have played original GWT and with your video I just started playing the new one. No rulebook needed! :)
🙏 Thanks so much for sharing that with us, that's so great! Glad you can get into the game rightaway!
Amazing video, very clear explanation of the game. Didnt fully understand the boats my first playthrough, but fully understand it now.

Yes, all are bonus tiles for this version. Small tweak that has different effect right!
What a beast to set up. Not sure I will feel motivated to play this one too often given the laborious setup. It will need to be a pretty decent play.
Lots of components, hopefully it's worth it. We love the game
Perfection!
🙏 thank you so much
Do you like it more than Argentina?
Hmm still need to collect our thoughts lol. We'll probably do review / comparison video for this one too.
Am I able to play this game if I never play the other two series?
Yes! They are all standalone game
NZ version looks like more complex than the other two, tho looks really good
Indeed yes! Still deciding which one we like the best hah
I’m missing something. For the auxiliary action, why would you ever pay $2 for 1 certificate? Isn’t that always you taking a loss
Permanent certificat that we were talking about perhaps? So not one use only
@@MeepleUniversity I thought the 1x auxiliary was “pay 1 pound move the certificate marker up one space” or 2x “pay $4 to move certificate 2 spaces” it looks like it would only really be good to gain the gold.

That's fair, needs bigger table space
Does this game actually take more table space than Argentina?😮
