I played it tonight and am going to enjoy getting a second play through, I feel this is the game that lets you follow a variety of strategies as they all have some value.

If you're also familiar with Age of Innovation can I ask for you opinion on how you would compare these two games at 2+ players based on length, variety of strategies and complexity to learn? Trying to decide on how to make a purchase. Thanks for this video!
I passed on Age of Innovation at Gencon because it seemed to much like Terra Mystica which does not do it for me. I am a fan of Gai Project it is one of my top games of all time. I need to watch a playthrough of Age to see if I am right that it is just another Terra mystica. Sorry I cannot comment more on it. Highly recommend Gai Project and you can try it solo or with others on Board Game Areana.
@@BadatBoardgames I am very surprised that you like GP that much while disliking TM. I've talked to one guy in person who owns both and he led me to believe they are similar mechanically, but GP has a much better theme (for him). But at the moment I am 55/45 leaning toward GWT:NZ although I'm worried how often I'll get to play it if it goes beyond 3 hours. Thanks!
GWT New Zealand takes about 2 hours or less our playthrough was on the longer side and with intro and scoring was just over 2 hours. That held true with 3 players and well and I think would hold true at 4 as long as no one has AP. I don't know what it is about Terra Mystica that I don't like but there is something with the priest tracks and such that don't click with me like Gai and the tech tracks. I also agree with the person you talked to I like the space theme better. I also don't like the rivers in TM. I have tried the app on the ipad and the game on BGA but just can't get into it. However Gai I have played like 40+ times solo and multiplayer both. I am probably just weird lol
I would pick this one or 2nd edition if you are looking for the first game. Argentina is heavier so that would not be my first choice. What are some of the heavier games that you play?

I just got into this series by way of Argentina. I really like it but I've been hearing a lot of people say it's their least favorite of the three and probably the worst to introduce new players. At any rate, it sounds like I should continue exploring these games.
Argentina is the hardest but I love it you can check out our review. I think New Zealand is easier and may be easier to bring someone into the series because the train in 2nd edition takes time for people to get. If you can play Argentina you can play all of them no issues! If I want a heavier weight game though Argentina is hard to beat! - Brad
@shawnylin8897 yes you can play any of them as your first game. I would recommend this one over the other two. Very Euro game though so make sure You like those first.
When looking at BGG weight ratings it's good to look at how many votes it has. New Zealand only has 32 votes, so not very reliable statistic. Sadly too few people vote on this on BGG in general.

The main attraction to me is variety of paths to succeed in the game. So it makes it more rewarding to play again and learn new strategies.

Ya it is early I feel this version is a 3.5 ; 2nd ed 3.75 and Argentina 4.0 but that’s just how I try to separate them out.
Box design, for me, is over heralded. Most games would benefit from just being empty.
