Dear Sir and Madam, the drink you noticed being mixed is called "Bhang", which is an edible mixture made from the buds, leaves, and flowers of the female cannabis, or marijuana, plant. In India, it's been added to food and drinks for thousands of years and is a feature of Hindu religious practices, rituals, and festivals - including the popular spring festival of Holi.

Afterwards, when he wound up youthful, he would regularly feel dismal about whether the reasonable hued Radha or different young ladies in the town could ever like him on account of his dull shading. Yielding to his distress, Krishna's mom requested that he proceed to shade Radha's face with any shading he needed to. So when Krishna connected shading to Radha, they both turned into a couple, and from that point forward, individuals have begun playing with colours on Holi. Furious with the defiance of his child, Hiranyakashipu took a stab at killing his child various occasions, yet nothing worked. He at that point asked his insidious sister, Holika, for help. Holika had a unique intensity of being resistant to flame. Along these lines, to execute Prahlada, she deceived him into sitting with her on fire. In any case, because of her malicious aims, her capacity ended up inadequate and she was signed to fiery debris. Then again, Prahlada picked up this invulnerability and was spared. This is the reason the principal day of Holi is commended as Holika Dahan and symbolizes the triumph of good over evil.

I have a theory about how Indian music could have travelled to south america. A lot of Indians were brought to the caribbean islands and guyana as slaves by the british in the 19th and early 20th century. The music might have been introduced in the local culture by these folks as they integrated with the local culture over the years. I just want to state I'm not basing this on any musical history knowledge but just the movement of people who still practice indian cultural customs to this day
May be from gypsies who also have many musical similarities with india especially Rajasthan which was adopted in Spanish music and eventually came to South America
It is interesting...Latin American culture and Indian culture have loads of similarities...from food to traditions to music. The Portuguese were the first ones to come to India, then followed by the others, mainly the French and obviously the British. So the most probable way would be through the Portuguese.
Holi is celebrated in spring, to be exact on the last day of the year (last day, full moon day of the last month Phagun) according to hindu calendar which is a lunar calendar and most of the hindu fastivals are celebrated according to it... It's like waking up from winter and being fresh to welcome the year ahead... It's mostly celebrated for 2 day and there is a story to it, in short, there was king called Hiranyakashipu, who used to call himself a god and told his people to worship him as god and if someone doesn't agree he used to punish them but then he got to know his own son, Prahlad, doesn't regards him as a god instead his son used to worship Lord Vishnu (if you don't we have millions of god and we can choose which one we want to worship, no restrictions... 😂) So that king asked his sister, Holika, to burn herself with his son because she had a boon (or blanket which can't be burnt) but when she sat on fire with her nephew instead of him she burnt and died... So first day is when we burn woods in every colony like a big bonfire and worship, it's called Holika Dahan (burning of Holika) and then the second day is our celebration with colours which is called Holi... As much I know this festival is celebrated from thousands of years as our civilization is thousands of years...
Waleska is veeerry smart girl. 4:57 she is right it is not tea . it is "bhaang" milk which is you can say member of weed family. but it is edible so mixed with milk
Holi signifies the triumph of good over evil. It also marks the beginning of spring season. Holi gets its name from a demon Holika who was ordered by her brother to kill her nephew i.e his own little son who was a great devotee of the God. While trying to kill by sitting on the fire she was burnt but the little boy was saved due to his devotion towards God. The colour is symbolic representation of the ashes of the demon.

Holi (pronounced holy) is a Hindu festival marking the start of spring. It is a fun festival as long as you don't get too intoxicated by drinks prepared using bhang (Bhang is an edible preparation made from the leaves of the cannabis plant)
I love Holi. I'm new to India, but damn is it fun af. Actually, every single day here is fun af. I'm Indian origin but 2 generations away and just came back home recently and I didn't expect it would be this awesome. I'm in love with Bharat.
Actually those color powder is calls"Gulal" which is made of real flowers like kesudo, rose, jasmins which are very good for skin, but nowadays you can't find real gulal which r made from flowers.
Oh we do the water baloons, water guns, eggs in baloon & all that as well. Holi is basically water + colors on 1 day & some do a bon fire kind of thing on day 2 & some burn the worn & stained clothes into it. That has more religious significance to it, related to death of Holika. A long story in Hindu mythology. Also people used to use these extremely pigmented permanent sort of colors that literally stain your skin & don't wash off, but now more herbal colors r used, that don't stain. But u still need to be careful on streets lol. Also people drink thandai which is milk + almonds etc + "bhang" Bhang is basically cannabis from which u also get Marijuana but it's a different preparation. They also make bhang snacks, fritters. So yeah it gets u intoxicated.
I think it's time you guys explored the punjabi (Indian language) music scene too! Would recommend *'Qismat by Ammy Virk'* and *'Mann Bhariya by B Praak'* to start that journey.
The movie is Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani you can watch with your family. It is a feel good movie based on the journey of the characters in their youth to adulthood the decisions and choices ones makes and have to live by and the complex relationships between close knit friends, their families etc. It is nostalgia as well, as we all go through these different complicated phases in ones life at some point or the other.
Holi is celebrated because Holika (Sister of king Hiranyakashyap) tried to burn Bhakta Prahalad by sitting with him in fire. She had the boon that she couldn't be burnt by fire. But, Bhakta Prahalad, who was a devotee of Lord Vishnu, survived the fire without any harm and instead Holika got burnt and died in fire. Next day there was a celebration. Holi gets its name from Holika and a ceremonial fire is burnt on the eve of the celebration.
Couldn't resist writing this after listening to you. It is known that Flamenco is Indian. Even after Spain became catholic, they retained pagan customs like rising of the dead spirit etc. And Hindus (Indians) are considered pagan by other religions. When the spaniards took their customs to the americas, the imported slave africans were proselytised as well as the native Indians(?) as they were called. The slaves started celebrating the customs of their white spaniard masters in their own way, in the process bringing in many more beautiful flavours. The african slaves really looked forward to celebrating carvinal as a get away from their miserable lives and gave it everything and their best shot. What we find sad is that mixed people glorify their white descent and fervently try to bury their african or native ancestry.
Flamenco has Indian roots but is also equally influenced by Arabic, North African and Jewish cultures. You have to listen to a Flamenco song to catch some of these influences.
Actually ancient Vedic culture was followed by the indigenous people of America's. Many ancient god's statues have been found especially in South America. It is said that the Mayan civilization had ties with the demon king Ravana as per Vedic texts. It is claimed by the Srilankan people that Ravana had a under sea tunnel from where he could travel from Srilanka to the Americans. Prominent god's worshipped in America were Hanuman, and Jatayu.

Hey guys.. South America has deeper links with Bharat (India) for many thousands of years .. Ancient India had links with Mayans, Inkas, Aztek ... even before that.. some say.. its Indian influence into South America .. also called Paathala Lokam in some of Scripts.. Ancient Indians were major navigators across the high seas for many thousands of years.. they moved from India to South East Asia to Australia to South America .. matter of fact.. India had huge merchant ships going from India to Africa as well.. so from both sides (Atlantic, Pacific side.. Ancient India had very good knowledge of the High Seas) .. Vascodegama was escorted by massive Indian merchant ships from africa to India...which vascodegama didn't discover the root.. it was used for thousands of years by ancient Indias..
This festival #Holi is thousands of years old guys. I don't know about how it influenced other cultures, but this festival's root is definitely in India's #Vrindavan city ❤️ The City of Lord Krishna 🙏 The story related to Holi is even more older & basically signifies *Victory of good over evil*. It has hindu religious significance but still has a party vibes due to the way it's celebrated.
It's true, most things originated from India. Other cultures got influenced through trade relationships, especially spice trades. It's hard to realise but if you research properly, you will come to know that Indus valley civilization of India is the oldest civilization in the world. The originations influenced other parts of the world as they invaded the country and explored more about the culture...
Holi is basically the festival of colour and love and to celebrate the arrival of Spring season. As per ancient history it is to celebrate love between two deities “Krishna and Radha”. This festival is celebrated in each part of India with love and everyone irrespective of the religion takes part in it…. That’s the beauty of this festival.
Holi is celebrated to mark the victory of good over evil and also it's the start of spring season. Some people also say it's to celebrate the love between lord Krishna and Radha. The word Holi originates from Holika an evil woman who was killed in fire similarly a day before we play with colours we light up a bonfire and do rituals which is called Holika dahn to ward off all the evil. There is a huge story behind this I just tried to explain in short
The Colors festival you guys talking about UK is celebrated across the world & it literally came from Holi. Holi is now celebrated across the world just like Diwali & to some extent Rath Yatra (Chariot Journey).
There is a story in Indian mythology where an evil king tried to kill his son (7-8yrs old name prahlad) because the kid worshiped lord Vishnu ( the king hated him ) . But he was unsuccessful everytime so he called his sister holika, who was immune to fire ,to kill his son by sitting in fire with him ,but the lord saves Prahlad and instead Holika got burned ... So before playing holi with colours and stuff, we burn this pile of woods to represent victory of good over evil.
You should definitely watch this movie . It's an amazing movie , everything about this movie is so perfect, its a perfect ride of emotions , fun , friendship, love , dreams , you guys will love it ❤

A lot of ancient historical texts mention about India, scholars and professionals travelling to India to learn, taking away elements of culture and art into other corners of the world.
Red chillies 🌶 originated in Mexico and because of the Portuguese in the 1400/1500s when they was colonising they ended up taking the red chillis to India Goa to be exact but spices like black pepper and cinnamon etc all are Indian spices people normally think red chillis India but it’s really from Mexico thanks to the Portuguese it became a big part of Indian cuisine
One interesting fact is Indian subcontinent was once part of Gondwanaland which also had African continent in it. Over period due to continental drift this Indian subcontinent was detached from Gondwanaland and attached to Asian continent forming Himalayas. This may be the reason some of basic music and culture came with us...
Indians been migrating out of India for 1000s of years the aztecs and the ancient Indians have allot in common even with there beliefs in some aspects etc
South american music is so diverse because the continent got influences from african, asian and european music simultaneously. Asia, Africa and the Americas were colonised by one or the other european nation in the recent history. The colonisers brought with them slaves from Africa and indentured labourers from Asia (predominantly from British India and China). These labourers brought with them their own ways of cooking, palates, ingredients, music, musical instruments, traditions and much more. Some of musical traditions and instruments may be similar just by coincidence and may have evolved parallelly because the climate (tropical) and environment (Rain Forest, Savannah) are similar.
Suriname and Guyana have a significant Indian/Hindu population. The music , culture and cuisine were introduced into Latin America probably from there.
Holi in Bengali it means "basant Utsav" means festival which welcomes the spring, after a long period of winter spring comes with many flowers , fruits and happiness .... It's like dipawali where we welcome the winte by light because in winter life process itself gets slow in so many ways but we all want to stay life full and energetic ... ....
"Double Intoxicated" it's bcoz playing Holi with Colours usually starts with a milk drinks mixed with Marijuana and on the previous line you will find the word bhaang which an Indians called or named Marijuana as Bhaang or Ganja..
India had lot of trade with Europe via Middle East and Africa atleast 2500 years ago. My hypothesis is Romani people who are punjabi Indians later sold into East Europe as slaves by ottoman empire has lot of influence in Europe. From flamenco dance to music.
In Holi, there are a lot of colour water balloons, dry colours, water Guns and pond filled with water to play Holi with and we put colors to each other to spread love and peace through colors😊👍
In Guyana South America it's called Phagwah (Holi) and in the morning we play with mud and water and in the afternoon we get cleaned up and play with colored water and colored powder.
Holi is basically celebrating the start of spring hence the colours and fun and merriment! Its been celebrated in India since a lot of centuries and it has also a religious connotation to it..it where ppl let go of their inhibitions and enjoy..with the "bhaang" ( plant based drink like a weed type drink! ) You need to see videos of Holi in Varanasi or Mathura to see the religious style and of course Goa to see the modern side of Holi!
I got so excited to see that you guys reacted to this. This is my favourite movie of all time, the songs and the whole thing is just perfect. You guys should check out this movie and the rest of its songs.
Holi also comes in the month of February. The colours were originally made from natural substances like flowers, leaves, tree barks, tumeric etc however now a days it's all artificial colours mixed with chalk powder. So people like me who are allergic to artificial colours uses natural colour or completely avoid the playing with colours part and enjoy the different kind of dishes that are being prepared in this festival. When we were kids there were some naughty ones who use to mix cow dung or mud in water and splashes to others. There is a saying in hindi that "Bura na mano holi hei" - " Don't mind it's holi" using this people play several pranks. One of my female neighbour was thrown in the gutter by several guys saying the same.
Now that you've reacted to Holi, you MUST react to a Ganesh Chaturthi song! Best option for you is "Deva Shree Ganesha" composed by Ajay Atul from the Bollywood film Agneepath!!
Well you guys got it right in the end, we was looking for protection 🤣 There's no such rule about getting sprayed with water before colours. You can play however you want just have fun.
India has so many festivals guys it's just a start long way to go.... But I think generally there is always a underlying message of victory of good over evil....

that drink in the video is bhaang , its milk mixed with leaves of cannabis or simply weed , many people drink it during holi .
Since you guys didn't seem to recognise, the actor in this is the same who was in Agar tum saath ho and Naadaan parindey. He is one of the best actors we have today and his name is Ranbir Kapoor. Also if you are looking to watch a bollywood movie, my recommendation is Barfi, one of the most satisfying cinematography I have ever seen.
👍
Ya also that's why there is born fire in middle...
No u are wrong first day is for holika and second day due to Radha Krishna
What u are talking about is holika dahan not holi bro first holi was celebrated by shri radha and shri krishna

Name of movie - Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani
In English it means- This Youth is Crazy
Holi (pronounced holy) is a Hindu festival marking the start of spring. It is a fun festival as long as you don't get too intoxicated by drinks prepared using bhang (Bhang is an edible preparation made from the leaves of the cannabis plant)
This movie is worth a watch.
Some other songs you should checkout from this movie
1. Badtameez dil
2. Kabira
3. Ilahi
Also people drink thandai which is milk + almonds etc + "bhang"
Bhang is basically cannabis from which u also get Marijuana but it's a different preparation.
Guys you should definitely see Batameez dil it’s moooore beautiful dance moves and sooo fun you gonna looove it!!! It’s from the same movie
I would want them to react to all songs of this movie
omg I jut got the notification and I'm so happy happy happy I love this song so much
Similarity is found due to migration of indian people to Europe now called Romani. You can checkout the video of Abhijit chavda about it.
Waleska is so smart, she got it right about the 'Bhang', it is a alcohol type beverage people use in Holi.
As you mentioned playful and flirty nature of a song, you guys should definitely check out 'Lahu Muhn lag gaya' (meaning - Tasted the blood, here blood is compared to the taste of love for the first time) from the movie Ramleela starring Deepika Padukone again and you can't get enough of her. You'll love that song which also has another great song 'Laal Ishq' by everyone's favourite Arijit Singh, but not getting ahead of myself you should definitely checkout any of these two gems and if possible share your reaction and reviews with us.
Vocal coaches turn into full fledge reactors , that's power of huge Indian market/population 😀😀
This movie is freaking amazing, and this is about travel, friendship and life ❤
It’s been 9 years since this song launched… who all feeling old now 😭
Vascodegama was escorted by massive Indian merchant ships from africa to India...which vascodegama didn't discover the root.. it was used for thousands of years by ancient Indias..
omgs guys pls do a review on this film, its got some off the biggest hit songs
Mesopotamia is older than IVC.
Watch this movie it's fun and songs r also good as well so it's perfect for you too.
This is just a beginning. There are tons of party songs in India.you should watch those.you will love it.
This white liquid is called cow milk mixed with "Bhang" (prepared from a three leaves / bud) of a Cannabis/ hashish tree.
colors london is inspired by the holi festival and color runs take place all over the world to celebrate holi
That drink as devils lettuce in it 😂
FINALLY I was waiting for this❤️❤️
There is a story in Indian mythology where an evil king tried to kill his son (7-8yrs old name prahlad) because the kid worshiped lord Vishnu ( the king hated him ) .
Yes, right! He was looking for protection, because he'd just found a willing girl! The letter came as a shock!
You should definitely watch this movie . It's an amazing movie , everything about this movie is so perfect, its a perfect ride of emotions , fun , friendship, love , dreams , you guys will love it ❤
7:24 because the aryan invasion theory is completely wrong thousands of years ago people from indian subcontinent migrated to eurapeb(that's why Portugese, spanish people don't look too different from indians).....a romanian festival which lasts a few days is there t, where the take the black figure called sara la kali and dip it in water body...its actually a influenced and evolved form of a festival in india called durga pooja where we take the idol of goddess ( name of an form of goddess is kali too)and submerge in water it also lasts for a few days .....search about romani people you will get to know about the connections
Ya.. You are right..👍 he was looking for protection 🤣🤣 So smart you are 😜
you got that right. He was looking for some prophylactic.
pls react to other songs from this movie .. also might as well watch the movie .. its a fun film
Holi is an Indian parade... where you can do anystep... And water is optional.... TOTALLY UP TO YOU.. 😘❤️❤️❤️❤️🙏
Holi signifies the starting of spring.
You guys have got to watch this movie- YEH JAWANI HAI DEEWANI-

They are organic and herbal coloured powders.

You should also watch the movie. It got whole new thing to learn different perspective of life.
India had lot of trade with Europe via Middle East and Africa atleast 2500 years ago. My hypothesis is Romani people who are punjabi Indians later sold into East Europe as slaves by ottoman empire has lot of influence in Europe. From flamenco dance to music.
*Romani people not Romania
In Holi, there are a lot of colour water balloons, dry colours, water Guns and pond filled with water to play Holi with and we put colors to each other to spread love and peace through colors😊👍
I grew up listening to bollywood because of my dad I appreciate Indian culture so much its so beautiful💞
In Guyana South America it's called Phagwah (Holi) and in the morning we play with mud and water and in the afternoon we get cleaned up and play with colored water and colored powder.

LOT'S OF LOVE FROM INDIA!!❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
This movies is one of the best feel good young energy kinda movie. you could defiantly watch it.
Great Movie..! Great Music..!
Do react to more... Songs from this one..
Diwali is the festival of lights which started around 5301 BC. Holi is the festival of colors which is celebrated atleast 1000 years before Diwali.
I got so excited to see that you guys reacted to this. This is my favourite movie of all time, the songs and the whole thing is just perfect. You guys should check out this movie and the rest of its songs.
Holi h vai Holi h...
🎉 🎊
Its from the movie "Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani" and is a MUST watch!
In hostels We really jump into the mud pit prepared beforehand of the day😂😂😂 that's the actual Holi. The colour of the soil❤️
It's an amazing movie u should watch

Btw uve already reacted to Holi festival shown in the song "Sairat Zala ji" previously
Well you guys got it right in the end, we was looking for protection 🤣 There's no such rule about getting sprayed with water before colours. You can play however you want just have fun.
This song is not often played in Holi.. it is a must played song.. without this song Holi is incomplete
India has so many festivals guys it's just a start long way to go.... But I think generally there is always a underlying message of victory of good over evil....
