Hi Heather, yes we’re thrilled that Chris fixed the machine! I’ve learnt a lot today and am very happy we saved another old machine from the tip. (It would’ve been recycled but there’s no need to waste resources building us a new one now. 😊)
Nice save Chris. These sort of issues are why people say things don't last like they used to. Components, and in this case the solder, are made to too fine a tolerance. As soon as they heat up or are used regularly they fail. Cheers NN 😉
Has anyone suggested acetone? NorCal715 swears by it, and cleans boards, rubber bands, wheels, and components with it. Very quick to evaporate and great for washing flux off a board you have just soldered. Amazing how often the fault is a basic one. No fancy chips and transformers and the like. Just the good old AC connections! Well done
A nice fix! Here's hoping the owners realise, just because you fixed the circuit board, you're not responsible for the leak they find next week! Been there, had that! Especially with computer fixes...
Haha, yeah I know things like that happen Martin! The owners are pretty switched on though - I'm sure things will be fine. I have heard back that it is working perfectly again 👍😃
Hi Martin, We’re so happy our machine is running again and realise that it is elderly and eventually something else will fail. We’ll try to fix it again and if that fails we’ll be looking to adopt another old unwanted machine. I’m sure Chris will help with that too!
Sorry, my comment to Chris wasn't really targeted towards you or your repair... It was more a general comment based off previous experience that once someone does a repair they do so risking being called back for totally unrelated secondary faults. I'm really glad Chris has been able to work his magic on your machine! 🙂
I'm way behind your videos Chris. I just had an eye operation which limited my viewing ability 😂 well done fixing this machine. I tried finding the price of a new control board but couldn't find one, it must be an old washer. I did find someone having the same issue with their machine. I will try and catch up over the next week 😂
No worries Dave, I've been putting a lot of vids out lately! I just figure I may as well film everything and throw it out there for the masses! 🤣 Hope the op went well! 👍
I had this exact thing happen with my encore 605. Resoldered and it's been going a year since perfectly. The drum bearings have gone now (hence why I'm looking at youtube repair vids haha)
I think it's a weakness with the design cerby - well done on your repair. I haven't had to replace drum bearings on a machine, so I can't help you there sorry.
ha!..I had the exact same issue with the same machine...I was lucky enough to just melt the existing solder join and it was fixed...though it did fail again in another spot some months later. It's next fail was at the 'Go' button...I never did put a sealer on it 🤔🤔🤔
Not bad, I really dislike those cheap computer boards put into everything. I much prefer mechanical switches for all my household appliances. Glad it was a cheap fix.
nice "easy" (if you know) fix. Sadly this is rarely investigated and often would quoted for a "board" or control panel which if not obsolete would be as dear as a new machine when added to the service cost. I am constantly amazed at how many "how to fix xyz" are on youtube. This last fortnight i learned how to remove a chuck on a DeWalt cordless drill and how to change the password on My mobile phone that's probably in the manual i lost years ago. good save, and great video. that digital microscope looks pretty handy too, I've taken photos with My phone and zoomed in a few times for similar checks.
Thanks Dean! Yeah YT is such a great resource for DIY fix-it jobs! I sometimes find one that I have to do and learn the details, then present it my own way just to add to the database! 😊

That's great Moya! 😃😃
Good repair, Chris.
Thanks mate! 😊👍
That was very cool! Very interesting to see this board and the fix. Awesome! Glad it was fixed.
Thanks Laura!😊👍 The owners were very glad too!
I always enjoy watching your videos. Thank you.
Thanks F&F, I'm glad! 😊👍
Great, I bet they'll be very happy!
Thanks Heather, they sure are and I've heard back that the machine is working perfectly! 😊👍

Thanks NN. Poor quality solder causes the death of a very large percentage of electronics these days - sadly!!

Thanks Dave! I do have some acetone here - will try it on my next job! 👍👍
Great video, thanks for the information!!
Many thanks David! 👍😊

Now that’s a save mate. Especially at the price of a decent new one.
Thanks Glen! I wonder how many of these were scrapped and replaced with exactly the same problem?! 😲
@@TheUltimateRecycler ummm… I know of one! 😬

Great fix Chris, hopefully whatever caused that connection to cook doesn't present further issues. 👍
I don't think so Alex with that jumper wire soldered in now. Thanks mate 👍😊
Nailpolish is great for isolating these solder joints and to remove the solder, use solder wick.
I do have some solder wick and use it sometimes Spelter - it is handy! Yes, I'd forgotten about nail polish! 👍👍
Thank you
Thanks Cynthia! 😊😊

While researching this repair MC M, I did find that it was a fairly common problem! Poor quality circuit board I guess!

Totally agree mate - give me a good old mechanical washing machine anyday!
