What's your favorite trick for removing small screws that are seized/hard to remove on a dirt bike?

Thanks for the tip, this is Brayden the guy who rode your trails this early summer. I’m happy to say I applied the skills I learned and got a new bike, I picked up the Klx300r I was talking about. Thank you for the tips again!

Your on the right track. Clean the screw head up and find the right size screwdriver like you did. Also instead of holding it you can use a vise to hold the piece. Sometimes an impact screwdriver does the trick. Also don't forget PB blaster and heat are your friend 👍

Great tips, Bob. Thanks for sharing. Fortunately I ddin't have to go past the locking pliers for these screws, but sometimes it ain't that easy, as you know.

The screw that is "starting to round", is almost certainly a JIS-screw (see the small 'dimple' on the head of the screw.) They will be super-easy to destroy, using a Phillips screwdriver/bit. (Don't ask how I know... 😕)

    Impact screwdriver. Amazing devices.

Yep, I actually have one of those. I should have blocked up the float bowl and used it. I haven't needed it in a while... Thanks for watching and sharing!

Good stuff, how about helicoil install on a oil drain and bolt extraction after they break off. Current problems on my '95 klx250r restoration!

I recently fixed the drain bolt threads on a KX450F. I didn't have to extract the bolt, but I used a "Time-Sert". It's a steel insert that works similar to a helicoil but is much stronger and more permanent. I flushed oil through a few times to make sure no metal shavings were left inside.
Also, sticking the drill and tap in grease before using help catch a lot of the chips.
The most important thing is to make sure the hole is straight when drilling/tapping. Use a tapping block if you have one (or get one). It's a pretty simple job, just take your time to get it right :)

IMO you always start with the locking pliers, if the screw is so rusted the screw head breaks when clamping you were never getting it out with a screw driver to begin with

The screw looked fine this time, so it was worth a try with the screwdriver, especially for illustration purposes. Thanks for watching and sharing!
