I love the ingenuity you use to solve problems, such as the lack of a button. Doing with what we already have next to us and re purposing it, shows depth of thought. Which most people lack.
Remember one thing kiddies...he has a full garage with a lift air tools and a ton of other tools the average person doesn't. Makes it look easy, right? A good friend of mine worked for a NASCAR Cup team as a body fabricator and learned every race car trick in the world. He makes me look like a damned fool as he does shit I can't even think of. We painted the hood and two toned the sides of my truck a couple of years ago and there was a rusted out spot in the fender behind one of the front wheels. He had that cut out and tacked in a new piece of metal before I could sand on the other side of the truck. Tools and knowledge are the key.
@@alwaysopen7970 - I'm sure your friend was talented but that sounds like something a run of the mill body man can do. NOW, if he manufactured you a NEW fender on an English wheel, THAT'S another story. He just might be able to.
Thank you Mustie1, you've given me the knowledge and confidence to adjust the valves on my riding mower, and also carburetor cleaning on my garden tractor and snowblower, all in the past two weeks. All are running great now.
Great video. I have been watching several of your videos here today and I like your style. Like someone else has mentioned, your clean, you're neat, no foul language, and you're real good at explaining things. I happen to have an old Cub cadet similar to this one that you just worked on. Mine is close to 1200 hours on it. I've replaced the spindles, tie rod ends, clutch, axle housing, and switches. I'm still using it. I have about six acres on our property, and five or six other lawns that I mow. I also have the Cub cadet RZT 50. Done a lot of work to both of these machines. Thank you for your video and your professionalism. Looking forward to more.
Having watched a dozen or more videos with Mustie, this guy is one of the best small engine people I have ever seen. Gosh, I wish I had that brain for small engines. Great videos and great work. At least I’ll have some good videos to refer to. Would love to shadow this guy for about a month. Thanks for the videos!!
Thanks for taking my mind off all this craziness of the world right now. There's nothing like watching somebody else fix their broken lawn mower instead of me fixing mine. :-)
Very cool! You just answered a question for me. I've been working on a used generator my son picked up. Cleaned up the carburator, new plug and it would run good for less than a minute and die. It had a solenoid on the bottom of the carburator. It had 2 wires running through a high temperature insulated sleeve. Only one coming out to ground. After watching this, I pulled back the sleeve and found the hot lead someone chopped off. Now to determine where it went! Thank you so much!!
Always fun hanging in the garage, Mustie. Great tip to look for rear wheels that are bolted on verses those that have a shaft sticking through. Thanks, Bud!
Big thanks Mustie1. Recently picked up the same model Cub Cadet for my son and your video will be a great help for trouble shooting some of fits ills. First thing is to fix the broken exhaust bolt.
Hey Mustie, now I know how you are able to diagnose all the issues you come across so easily,.. You have your own Lab.. LOL Another awesome Mustie Video! Can hardly wait till the next.
I love how you talk to your subscribers. You know them so well. Even though their is a lot of negative people out there they actually make you better at what you do. Because you are always thinking about what the haters will say. Great videos..
Nice job all around I really liked the carrot fix on the deck lever. That is the way to do it no time wasted waiting on parts and no money wasted. Waste not want not.
Thanks Mustie, I've learned a lot watching your videos. Feeling much more confident to buy a cheap 2H "project" mower and repair it, get a cheap working mower, hopefully a zero-turn.
I have a 2164 that's always been garage kept and well maintained. It's a great tractor. Everything is the same except for the engine, and the front bumper. I am not sure if your bumper is original. My pto belt just broke. I will replace it this week but it looks like an easy job. Thanks for the video, I look forward to seeing more.
Speaking for myself I would not presume to second guess you, having watched many of your videos if the valves needed service I know you wouldn't be able to help yourself. After watching you repair the vertical crank seal on a lawn mower I picked up a can of the right stuff haven't had an opportunity to try it yet but I'm confident properly used it will work thanks for the video
Thank you muste ,I learn so much watching you.You are,a great teacher, and have a very nice way about you.i am a,much better engine guy just by watching you.if ever there was a master mechanic it would be you.Keep up the great teaching and videos.
Yay - more Lily! She's a good girl. Like you said - that seemed too easy! Which one to do next...? Thanks for letting us wrench with you Darren - and love on Lily some extra. Dogs lifespan is too, too short! Chuck in Kansas
Mine doesn't every tractor I sell i raised from the dead. Used them to cut my yard to test them. Lol. I kept the jdl120 and lt1000 got new bagger systems fir free
Mustie, know this is way to late to do anything for this project, but the release button looked to be 1/4" x 20 threads per inch- the same as "all thread rod" and there are couplers for putting rods together- for rods 1/4. 5/16, 3/8, 1/2, 5/8, 3/4 , and 1 inch, all course threaded. Next trip to the store, get a few of each; they are handy like the pockets on a shirt! Oh, and they are cheap, but not free- the screwdriver handle solution was worthy of Mustie!
Simple suggestion, to check continuity where it is difficult to get to the connector, I stick a straight pin through the insulation on wire, on the side of the connection where power is supposed to be. It leaves a small hole that to me is not a problem. Works for me!!
The horizontal crank and shaft drive cubbies are killer. My buddy picked up a 1440 last week without a mower for $125 and needed nothing. He is going to use it in FLA to pull boats around with. I am still jealous.
The 2166 Cub Cadets are sought after around my parts due to the electric PTO and shaft drive. You ought to make a tidy profit on that and if I were closer I would be interested myself. Well done.
Out of gas. Don't you have a "check list"? Don't feel bad. My wife has been working on a patient for that. Her car has a special light. When it comes on you drive 20 more miles before you worry about that. It's in the manual!
Hi Mustie, You seem to be very resourceful, handy and knowledge. But you do not always show how to do the in between steps. You find a an issue, start working on it, say you are going to clean some part, do 'xyz ' and jump to the completed task. Being a new comer to working on yard equipment, I would really like to see the in between steps. How you pressure washer the engine, how you bagged the carburetor before you pressure washer the engine, etc. The little steps are just as important, if not more important, especially for newbie like myself, so we do not cause other issues. Thanks for showing stuff, but please include more of the small step. If others don't want to see how you do the small stuff, they can always fastforward. But if the small stuff is not there, is newbies cannot learn. Thanks Again!
I was a small engine tech at a Deere dealership and someone brought in a mower with a no start issue. He left and I put it on the lift and checked spark, no issues but the plug was dry so I checked the tank...empty...lol. I put gas in it and it fired right up!! We called the owner like 15 minutes later and told him it was ready, he almost died of embarrassment, lol. It happens. We didn't charge him anything.
There should be a safety switch to allow you to mow in reverse on that Cub Cadet either in the key switch or somewhere on the dash. Really overall it quick and easy fix, kind of like a John Deere I just picked up today all mine needed was a spark plug, lol
After the mower is started, turn the key back one notch counterclockwise and the deck won't shut off when in reverse. It's a safety feature, obviously, but you can de-select it.
Sam Denton on this particular model (which I have one myself) that is not an option. Cub Cadet didn't add that feature until a little after this model. On my 2166 I just loosened up the switch from the chassis and zip tied it out of the way. I have the common sense to not back over something or someone while mowing. If I ever sell mine I can easily restore that function.
She’s an oldie but a goodie!!! I’m referring to the dog not the tractor. 😂 lol!! “What a good girl!” Great content. I like the cub cadets, the non MTD kind. Some of those MTD’s are garbage with a good name attached to em. I love when you sell a good cub cadet and when they call you for questions they say “I can get a brand new cub cadet from Home Depot for less than what you’re selling that used one for “. I just tell em to research it and get back to me when you’re ready to buy.
I love the ingenuity you use to solve problems, such as the lack of a button. Doing with what we already have next to us and re purposing it, shows depth of thought. Which most people lack.
Very true Josh!
Josh R ,just like MacGyver!!!! 😀😀🤔🤔

Far better than anything you see on TV these days. Always look forward to these videos. Keep up the great work.

Thanks for taking my mind off all this craziness of the world right now. There's nothing like watching somebody else fix their broken lawn mower instead of me fixing mine. :-)
I'm glad it was a simple fix for you. With your knowledge it was a simple fix. You amaze me and I try to learn.
I love the old Cub Cadets and the new ones too! That bagged alone is worth a lot of money.
I love that even when you make a mistake you leave it in. It lets us all know that even the best are not perfect. Keep the great videos coming.
I really enjoy your videos. I have always been interested in small engine repair. I do it myself, but you have taught me a lot. Thanks
Floyd
My Friday has been truly blessed. I live for your videos.

Great dog video! And a mower repair thrown in too! Excellent! Everybody ought to have a Lab.
I have a bull terrier.
Always fun hanging in the garage, Mustie. Great tip to look for rear wheels that are bolted on verses those that have a shaft sticking through. Thanks, Bud!
Great way to spend my Saturday morning having my coffee.. Thanks!
Ah Mustie. After watching like 10-12 of your vids, I just had to say.... THANKS !!!
Big thanks Mustie1. Recently picked up the same model Cub Cadet for my son and your video will be a great help for trouble shooting some of fits ills. First thing is to fix the broken exhaust bolt.
Nice property and beautiful Labrador . Another nice video . Thumbs up
Love it when the problems turn out to be so certain and fixes so simple. Has the appearance of a quality piece.
Hey Mustie, now I know how you are able to diagnose all the issues you come across so easily,.. You have your own Lab.. LOL Another awesome Mustie Video! Can hardly wait till the next.
Love my 2166. Nice machine. Great video as always!

nice find, you got a good mower there, you know your stuff. thanks for the insight to this little engine.
Cub cabet this guy knows about lawn mower good condition hope you get engine running soon sparke plug repair awesome video friend bless you
Thanks Mustie, I've learned a lot watching your videos. Feeling much more confident to buy a cheap 2H "project" mower and repair it, get a cheap working mower, hopefully a zero-turn.
Your channel is probably my favorite. Another great show.
Brilliant work 👊 and of course a lovely dog 😘😍😂😂
I really love your little DIY things like the "Carrot"-Knob. :) I wish I had the fantasy/imagination and tools to do such things.
Out of gas? Amateur pfft! The only reason that I still watch your videos is to see Lily. What a beautiful pup.
Speed handle! Hell yes! We used those on my old man’s top fuel dragster until the late 90’s...memories!
I have a 2164 that's always been garage kept and well maintained. It's a great tractor. Everything is the same except for the engine, and the front bumper. I am not sure if your bumper is original. Best repair vids going .
Thanks Crusty!
Only 121 to go been watching you all week mate hell it's going up fast, well deserved as well, well done

Nice job! big big fan from Kentucky
That is a quality little tractor. Good job !
Thanks for the advice you provided in this video. I was able to fix several issue I had with my b and s Intel 18.5 hp Craftsman ride on. Thanks
Nice score, great Kohler engine too.
Lily is looking like a happy girl out in the yard !!
Great haul on that one Darrin .. SWEET runner ! Thumbs up man..
I love your optimism!
No gas and a carrot. What more could one ask for? Another great save video!
Hunkering down for Harvey here in Texas. Got all the hurricane essentials: food, water, fuel, generator and a new Mustie video.
Sounds like you're prepared. Hope you make it through without too much damage, bro.
Thanks!
Andrew Willard; good luck Andrew, lettuce know how u came through it. Maybe Mustie will giv u a shout out.
Andrew, I'm right here with you in the Texas City Area.. Hold on and let's Ride The Storm Out!
So far so good here south of Houston but the city itself is inundated.
Outstanding! Great work!
Another great repair video
Great video and Lilly looked great as well. distinguished older lady.
Instead of calling these "Will it run?" you should call them. "It will run!" Master Mechanic Mustie on the case!
Thanks for showing this. mIt helps others to work on their machines.
Will it run ? You bet it will. Mustie to the rescue......
my thoughts exactly, and I'm not alone the master in in the house
As Carl slingblade would say, ain't go no gas in there. Hhhmmmm. Good show.
I grew up with a black lab and so seeing your dog is sometimes the highlight of the video for me. Reminds me of her.
I have always wondered if Mustie1's yard ever gets mowed with the same mower twice. lol
LOL Thats funny!
Probably not, and it’s pronounced “research and development”
Mine doesn't every tractor I sell i raised from the dead. Used them to cut my yard to test them. Lol. I kept the jdl120 and lt1000 got new bagger systems fir free
Good Dog!
Not a bad tractor, either.
Fantastic job. I'm learning.....
In the voice of Slingblade "it ain't got no gas in it"
Nice Dog.. She is now the star of your channel buddy ;-)
The carrot idea was great. Very ingenious and creative. Probably cheaper to replace the tool.

I realy like your idea on the valve cover nice work sir :)
Love the vids. Would have loved to have seen that carb busted down. Looks much like the engine on my (not running) Onan RV generator.
love your dog :)
the ever resourceful mustie1, just the man for the zombie apocalypse.
Another job well done !
Well done :) Not a bad mower.
Love to start my day with coffee and Mustie!!

Id drive the thing Back to the prior owner and sell it back to them with a comment like, it was just outa gas. Great find.
always thumb up for this pops video... keep it up
love to watch your videos
Nice to have a relatively easy fix once in a while.
Very nice channel. Like ur Vids! Keep it up. :)
It's amazing the things people get rid of, my craftsman garden tractor is 26 yrs old, with normal maitance it works great.
I got a craftsman GT6000 that's been going since 1992
That's the better of the three...Would be a great mower for someone..Good work Msutie...
7:15 "flat Ronnie wrench"!!! Love the Howard Stern reference!
Mustie, Harbor Freight pulls through again...Keep up the good work...

the boss wasn't impressed with being on camera apparently. Love your videos.
Mustie1 bloopers... and just like that the neighbor has his mower back!

That lever button, man 3D printers are awesome for that stuff. I have 4 of them.
LOL!!! Yup... even after years of working on stuff... sometimes we forget the simple shit!! :)
damn, you caught me in the middle of valve adjustment typing!
After the mower is started, turn the key back one notch counterclockwise and the deck won't shut off when in reverse. It's a safety feature, obviously, but you can de-select it.
I wondered about that.. My elCheapo Ariens has this feature and I use it all the time!

I was looking through here to see if anybody noticed that
Simple and cheap fix with that solenoid wire. Seems to be a solid unit otherwise. Another win for Mustie 1.
"I put a carrot in it", lol 👍
I love the will it run videos
Really nice tractor, I wanted to watch him change the oil.
It's not that I'm bored on this Easter afternoon, but I am looking at three year old Mustie videos. Still entertaining.
that looks like a nice machine... I need one like that

I love the button on the deck control, just genius, looks better than factory
Jason MacDonald i think it looks like a nipple..🤔🤤
Well done!
