I'm at my 3rd year playing guitar and I was starting to feel stuck. Learning this song ignited the spark I needed to move forward. Thank you Matt for taking the time to put this lesson together. You're the best!
Thank you so much for this lesson Matt, it's been some time since I don't show up in your comment section, I think that deal of "x" number of subscribers for a certain lesson is great! Way better than not having those remaining lessons, so thank you very much for reconsidering on doing them, I will stay tuned for more content on your channel, take care of yourself! :)
I don't know that I would say that he had zero knowledge of music theory. I think that was him being modest to a point. ;) I think it's safe to say that he relied much more on his instincts and what felt/sounded right than any theory knowledge he had.
He just had a natural feel for it,I don’t think he knew much theory at all. Some people can just visualize or just hear it using natural instinct. And he had that ability.
Thanks! I figured it's probably time I put a little more effort into the production. I might do proper mic'ing, mixing, a real camera, etc., in the future...we'll see.
dude… i’m 19 and been trying to pick up more nirvana since they’ve been a big influence for me as well as many others, your content is amazing. it’s super easy to follow along with and you split everything up so it’s easy to go step by step and feels like you’re learning with a friend rather than going through any major challenges. you killed every part, and i’m glad i can learn through the clear instruction here. keep on rocking
Awesome lesson Matt, been waiting a while for this 1. Is it just me or does it seem like Kurt's earlier stuff before Nevermind was more technical & a little more complex? I think so. Do you ever think you'll do a lesson on "You know you're right"? I know how to play it but I'd love to see you do a video on it as you are more thorough. Thanks for the videos.
Hi Robert! You're definitely right about the earlier songs being more complex. They're more punk and metal too, and a bit less poppy. Apparently they all were listening to Celtic Frost a lot at the time. Makes a lot of sense if you check that band out...I'm definitely going to do "You Know You're Right". It will most likely be the next Nirvana song I do.
its very true, kurts guitar parts got simpler as time went on, actually jack endino talked about that as well, he said part of it was that kurt had some difficulty singing and playing guitar at the same time so he made the guitar parts simpler so he could concentrate more on his vocals....
Thanks a lot for the lesson! I've been waiting for this one so much! Your videos are really helpful and the production is much better now. And also I'd really love to see Hairspray Queen lesson. Are you going to do it? (if it's ever possible to learn this crazy song :D)
No problem! Thanks a lot for checking it out! Yeah, I'm too the point where I need to spend some more time on the production. It's going to be a while before I properly mic, mix, and master the audio, but it will happen eventually. I'll start working on the Hairspray Queen lesson once I hit 9,000 subs, so pretty soon. Probably later this year.
@@MattBrownGuitar I've been waiting for a good tutorial on this song for so long, thanks man, as somebody that is just learning to play guitar like me it's amazing to have so much great content on songs that I love.
@@chillhell I'm so glad to hear it! I'll be spending a bit more time on my UA-cam channel over the next several months. Plenty more Nirvana and other song lessons are coming. :)
He man I'm confused about guitar amps I want to buy an versatile amp I can't afford guitar processors or effect pedals that's why I'm confused between Boss Katana 50, Marshall code 50 and line 6 spider 5 60 watt. Suggest me which one is best because I sold lot of things and going to invest on Good Amp. Boss Katana sounds better than any other amp in yt demos for me but Marshall code 50 having good option to connect with smart phone.
After trying many amps and because of low budget I settled with blackstar id core 40 v2. Sound wise it's better in price range and I loved Boss katana when I plugged in it's like wow that's my dream amp but it's Blackstar is only option for me. It have 2 speakers for stereo effects as well. It's 12k cheaper than katana in my country so I bought it and I'm happy with it. It's feels better than Marshall code 25 amp.
I'm pretty sure you already requested that...hmmm??? boooop! booop! sound the alarm! Double requester!!! lol! I'll allow it because your user name is so cool. Yes, I'll be doing plenty of Sonic Youth in the future...
I’m a 35 year old woman and used to be able to play this when I was a teenager and forgot. It’s my fav nirvana song. I dunno why I drew a blank in 20 years thanks my guitar teacher chorded it out for me and where that sheet music is now who knows

I followed his original solo fairly close, but I definitely took a few artistic liberties with this one. It's hard to exactly replicate some of the noisier elements without doing a million takes.
Thanks Matt, That reassures me that I’m okay playing a tad more by ear and feel rather than trying to follow a tab transcription precisely, which can become frustrating! Thanks for the awesome tutorials 👍👍
Hahahahah goldilocks is getting angry. Just saying this is why Marty is better. His intros are better and his lessons overall are way better. He has more subs and therefore he reaches out to more people bc of his style. His tabs sound better then your lessons. Keep practicing buddy
