This series in a nutshell fight - have sex - forget what the argument was about - fight - have sex - forget what the argument was about - loop to infinity.
The crazy thing is it literally gets retconned outta nowhere and they end with 2 kids, even though her "not being able to get pregnant" is supposed to be this HUGE plot point.
Yess. And is so sad how Anna Todd and her fans have made good guys and healthy relationships sound boring. She's said her books are about a "realistic relationship" cause she "was tired of seeing stories that are like all perfect and rainbows". Whaaat. Every romance story out there has some conflict or problem, but not all problems consist of abuse. Her fans have also used this narrative of "we want to read about real people bc we aren't perfect and relationships aren't perfect, grow up"....... .....and then proceed to use "is fiction/entertainment" to defend the story 👁👄👁
The adults in this girl’s life fail her miserably. They are literally telling her that it is okay for her to stay with a guy who gaslights and manipulates her. Very sad. Even sadder that these types of relationships are glorified everywhere nowadays. It’s some pretty dark sh*t.
Because literally every adult around her is messed up Her mom? Had an alcoholic ex who is now in the streets and used to beat her up. Her boss? Turned out to be a carbon copy of hardin who is as messed up as he is as he literally had an affair with his best friends wife, had a kid with her, her husband (Ken, Hardin's dad) turned alcoholic because of the affair basically fucked up hardins life and its turns out hes her dad and he also cheats on his current fiancee with his bf ex wife. Ken? An alcoholic who failed his son. Forgot the others but yeah they're all messed up

This franchise is such a horrible example for young people, particularly for young girls, who are the target audience for this and if any of them are dumb enough to see this story as something romantic, like my cousin does, then that’s a bigger red flag than this franchise’s story alone.

It’s cuz he’s a completely obsessive and emotionally abusive stalker with serious control issues and can’t tell what’s right and wrong, especially when it comes to being in a relationship.
Not to mention the idea of that and "fixing" a person needs to go away. Relationships built on that idea are not balanced or stable. Even when said person who needs "fixed" isn't a toxic or abusive person (say they just have different hobbies and habits than you that make it hard for you to connect and spend time together bcuz you don't enjoy those things) maybe find someone who fits you and your needs/interests better. Don't force someone else to give up their happiness for yours. Eventually in that type of relationship neither party will be happy anyway.
ikr, these movies just perpetuates abuse and justifies it which is disgusting and horrifying if you think about its target audience. The lack of self-awareness is horrendous.

I thought there were only three books? Like, I know there are spin-offs they're also trying to oush through, but I thought there were only three books focusing on Tessa and Hardin? I wanna cry.
Not in the next movie. They even break up once again in the end of the 4th movie. In my opinion the story should end there. But it's obviouse that will happen at some point. I saw there is a sequel of the books that tell the story of the next generation.
I would forgive this entire film series if they revealed in the final piece that this was actually a tragic psychological horror retelling the story of how Tessa snapped and murdered her emotionally abusive boyfriend.
I think a big part of the problem is that he original fan fiction author read Wuthering Heights, which is partially based in gothic horror, and somehow missed all the themes. She uses quotes from it like Catherine and Heathcliff’s relationship is something to be admired.
@@idknamesarehard7119 Honestly, I feel like a lot of these "bad boy, good girl" romance movies being made are trying to be some kind of exploration of a problematic romance but failing miserably because they're not actually committing to the "problematic" part. I've seen a lot of writers/aspiring writers who just plainly like to explore problematic romance, I've read that it can even be therapeutic for people who have had experiences with that type of relationship, but this author in particular just seems to lack so much awareness when it comes to her own work.

What has become modern day and before? We don't need a couple fighting every four seconds to make drama happen. Ig maybe bc it was old, it's not been done and cliche but I've still seen good romance novels. You just got to think outside the box or lean into cliches more. Maybe subverting them. We don't always have to just see toxicity for 2 straight hours of however long these movies are
Also doesn't have to be high school, modern day either. For example, actually this would technically be a toxic relationship (but they handle it well. Keiran never gets a pass for this really toxic thing he did and is afraid to do it to Lauren again and Lauren's hand shakes whenever they even come near touching and Keiran knows that and gives her a lot of space) and is more of a thriller but I love Purple Hyacinth, a good day to be a dog, Unlovable replacement and so I married an anti-fan. Yk what. Just go to webtoon if you need ideas. They got plenty of it bc they shit out romance every day and a way better resource than Wattpad bc 12 year olds are usually not very good at drawing so their stories never get popular. It's usually adults who are way older WHO HAVE SOME SELF AWARENESS
There's still a few toxic ones like nevertheless. I couldn't stand it. I think she leaves but also yo, why is it easy for you to ignore the red flags when everyone is telling you to not be infatuated with him because he's a player!! Like the twist is so obvious 🙄
The song you made resumes perfectly all the signs of a toxic relationship. I just feel to play it every time I found that someone is "stuck" in a bad relationship. Plus, it's really catchy!
Let me get this straight…we didn’t get a sequel to I Am Number 4 and the Divergent series was left unfinished but somehow there’s a large enough audience for SIX of these movies? WTF WANTS THESE MOVIES?
These movies take a 10th of the budget, you simply dont need an audience that big to keep them running and they do well in sindication on all those womens channels while Divergent is more of a flash in the bucket kind of thing based on the popularity of the books.
in the original books, i'm pretty sure they did. the author said that she wrote the series as an example of a toxic relationship of two people who aren't right for each other
@@caroline__0148 ... Nah. But close enough. Spoilers for After We Feel ! They take this huge break from each other for a few years, where they both develop profesionally and heal and stuff. They still meet and eventually hook up a couple times but they don't stay together. In the end they decide they still want to be together and they have two children(Tessa doesn't want to get married but Hardin accepts that). It was good that the author at least made them go their separate ways before uniting them, it made more sense even though it's sort of unrealistic
I think we're not giving enough credits for the song in the end of the video. Truly spectacular, really captures the essence of the stupidity of this film

I have this thought that when a celebrity discovers Wattpad and asks the question, "what is that?" A pile of smoke appears and a person covered in a black hood shows and says in a British accent, "it is a dark place. Promise to not go there."
It would be a serviceable movie if it showed how these horrible relationships ACTUALLY end, broken up or, even worse, violently. Tessa is far from perfect, but she doesnt seem to act out on everything and tries to communicate. Hardin is an extremely accurate depiction of an abuser, blowing up over his own feelings instead of reality and not healthily dealing with these emotions, making everyone close to him suffer because it is somehow someone else's fault for him feeling that way and taking immediate and unreasonable actions, apologizing or somehow making the other person think the his actions are their fault through gaslighting/manipulation/etc., everything is "fine" and "nothing happened" and lovey dovey, and repeat until it becomes the victim's normal. Look up the cycle of abuse. This should not be taught as "okay" especially to young people. It's not love, it's control. Tessa is scared to tell him things for fear of what he might do, because he taught her that she is responsible for how a grown man handles himself. Thank you for watching this for us because I could see it triggering a lot of survivors. Edit: grammar
And yet this story is what the author painted as a passionate "love story" with a probable happy ending (haven't read the books nor will I ever). That woman must be a lunatic. How disgusting that this is what passes off as popular YA literature & entertainment these days. 🤦🏻🤦🏻
This would make all the pain of watching these worth it Seeing how it gets all worse and then Tessa escapes that relationship and tries to put herself back together and then narrates what this taught her about abusers and how she wished the ran at the first red flag
Seriously, I get made fun of sometimes for not liking romance in movies but shit like this is why lmao (not to say all romance in movies is bad, but toxic writing is pretty common and nothing really ever fits my criteria)
You know, I actually suggested this to Anna Todd (and a bunch of other red flags that could have been used to bring to light abusive and toxic relationships as a learning ) on her wattpad and she blocked me because she didn't like I was speaking the truth.
I hate that this story romanticizes abuse. Hardin is never called out or seen a a bad person, and everyone else that Tessa is close to does nothing. People see Hardin abuse her and nothing happens. Real friends would help Tessa escape him. Hardin gaslights, shames, and attacks her and tries to claim SHE'S mistreating HIM. He acts like a vexatious toddler every time he doesn't get his way, and Tessa is all like "SO HOT". Why. Just why.
in all seriousness it’s sad that women are really taught that “easy relationships” without conflict aren’t rewarding and “too perfect.” and that a relationship needs you to work on and fix a guy, or else it’s not satisfying or worth it. It’s the whole Beauty and The Beast thing - Belle was nurturing and kind and patient which turned this monster into a man and she felt like she earned the love cause she had to work on it. Which in real life isn’t the case.
For real Beauty and the Beast is such a bad movie its lesson is horrible, all the Beast did was learn some manners and that suddenly makes everything he did okay? It's messed up
@Ellie Reed yeah I'm talking about the Disney movie. To my understanding, the original fairytale doesn't include all that horrible imprisonment and abusive stuff and is actually about learning to look past appearances. Disney actively made the story worse (but that's just what I've heard- the original fairytale might be just as bad)
@@charlotterouge8107 in the original Belle has two step sisters and her father is a merchant, he leaves for a trip one day and asks his daughters what they would like from it and Belle asks for a simple rose while her step sisters ask got expensive dresses and jewelry. On the way back he stumbles across the Beasts castle while in a storm, the castle is warm and inviting, there is food waiting for him and he even finds chests of dresses and jewelry waiting by his cart. The next day after the snow clears he heads out and finds a rose bush and takes one, then the beast appears all angry because even though he gave so much to the father he still stole from the beast. So the beast tells the father to bring him the daughter the rose was for as a punishment for his crime. The father says yes and leaves with no intention of bringing Belle back, a week or two pasts and the beast shows up at their home and demands that the debt be paid. Belle goes so the beast spares her father, and that's how the original story starts. The rest of it is the two of them slowly falling in love, and I think he dies of a broken heart not because he was attacked.
@@charlotterouge8107 Um, beast didn’t just learn manners, he learnt to love after a life of rejection and mistreatment. The movie’s lesson wasn’t even that if changing somebody, Belle never meant to change anyone she just did it because it was her natural personality. She wasn’t attracted to him until she saw he had become a better person which is different. Tessa likes Hardin because she thinks she can “change him” which is why she stays with him. Belle never liked Beast UNTIL she changed. If this had a bad message she would have actively tried to change him or worse gone for Gaston because he “needed saving”
@@MaeAlessa thank you for taking the words out of my mouth. Especially since Beauty and the Beast is my favorite movie. I never saw it had bad messages. The movie was good at showing both Belle and Beast grew together and become such an endearing couple. So to see someone completely miss the point of the movie to claim it's as bad as the After movies really irritates me. Belle and Beast are NOT bad as Tessa and Harden. It's the opposite in fact. Now! Unless we're talking about the live action Disney remake of BatB, that's a different story all together. The remake actually is bad as the After movies.
Hardin is literally the worst for Tessa. Both Trevor and Robert seemed like a decent guy who actually listened to what she had to say instead of throwing a temper tantrum when things don't go their way.

This was the youtube video that first planted the seed in my mind that my girlfriend was toxic. She acted exactly like Hardin and her mother, her friend, and her siblings all told me that she was just afraid of losing me, yet she started fights with me all the time and made me feel as if I wasn’t good enough. Since the first time I watched this months ago, I have broken contact with her, and I don’t know if anyone realizes how hard it is. Imagine getting rid of the person who was basically your LIFE for years/months. You can’t stop thinking about them. Everything reminds you of them because they’ve infiltrated every bit of your life, and since THEY were the broken one to begin with, you end up looking like the bad guy for ending things. I am so incredibly grateful to my supportive friends who recognized her toxicity from the beginning and counseled me to stop talking to her.
I hate it when people say that healthy relationships are boring and uninteresting. They CAN be interesting, y'all just aren't good at writing them. What IS boring and uninteresting is seeing the same cycle of arguing and canoodling for four movies straight.
So, in a nutshell, this trilogy is just "watch this girl get every chance to date a actual human being who will treat her good and be happy for her when new opportunities arrive, only for her to go back to the same *maybe* 5/10 on the scale of attractiveness douchebag who plays into double standards like it's a carnival game."

“you make them a better person” doesn’t make up for such a shitty relationship
^^^^^
Not to mention the idea of that and "fixing" a person needs to go away. Relationships built on that idea are not balanced or stable. Even when said person who needs "fixed" isn't a toxic or abusive person (say they just have different hobbies and habits than you that make it hard for you to connect and spend time together bcuz you don't enjoy those things) maybe find someone who fits you and your needs/interests better. Don't force someone else to give up their happiness for yours. Eventually in that type of relationship neither party will be happy anyway.

This would make all the pain of watching these worth it
Seeing how it gets all worse and then Tessa escapes that relationship and tries to put herself back together and then narrates what this taught her about abusers and how she wished the ran at the first red flag
Why. Just why.
Can we all just appreciate how Alex managed to fit an entire music video in here??🤣💀
I would just like Alex to know that ANOTHER The princess switch is coming in November 😭
*update, the trailer is out so you can all go watch it 😭
Are they adding a fourth Vanessa Hudgens?
@@TuesdaysArt PROBABLY HAHA
Omg seriously??? Whhhhyyyy??? 😭😭😭😭
Everyone's gonna be Vanessa Hudgens
What! Seriously!
Are we gonna get an army of Vanessa Hudgens fighting against Grinch or something...
in all seriousness it’s sad that women are really taught that “easy relationships” without conflict aren’t rewarding and “too perfect.” and that a relationship needs you to work on and fix a guy, or else it’s not satisfying or worth it.
The only understandable thing Hardin does is getting mad about the cereal box
Hardin is literally the worst for Tessa. Both Trevor and Robert seemed like a decent guy who actually listened to what she had to say instead of throwing a temper tantrum when things don't go their way.
I also like Landon and Noah was cute too.
dang..that song was genuinely really good in many parts..especially that line of after i fell walking on these eggshells..like alex isn't just good at parody writing, he's a good lyricist in general..
"The dad said they want to be back in her life, and then they have 1 conversation and he leaves"
Gotta say, that's the most realistic part of this franchise, bad fathers sure be like that
The fact that you said “I especially liked the part about Harry styles” when this movie initially started as a Harry styles fanfic took me out lmao
The more movies that comes out from the book, the more I understand why Harry was so pissed.
@@nherty6172 did he ever comment on it?
@@imibee5184 he blocked the author on Tumblr and on Twitter
@@cheshirecurls4849 ha! Yeah that speaks volume.
"The only one who is allowed to emotionally damage and traumatize tessa is me"....AND IM DOING A PRETTY GOOD DAMN JOB AT IT!! 😅
Bro this guy shamed her for wanting to have her own life. That ain't right.
I hate it when people say that healthy relationships are boring and uninteresting. They CAN be interesting, y'all just aren't good at writing them.
What IS boring and uninteresting is seeing the same cycle of arguing and canoodling for four movies straight.
Any example of a book that does that?
I know right
@@jesussavedme4975 Does it have to be a book? A lot of the healthy and interesting couples I can think of are in other forms of media.
Tell me about it. Healthy relationships are boring, normal guys are boring like what...
@@jesussavedme4975 have you ever read the Lunar Chronicles? Those books have some of the best written relationships in any genre I've seen.

SHE COULD HAVE FREAKING DYLAN SPROUSE FOR LORDS SAKE! WHY DID SHE STAY WITH HARDIN??????
@@giovanarocha3136 because he's not Dylan Sprouse in that universe; he's Trevor... And the typist probably didn't even see Trevor being played by Dylan Sprouse.
Best part of this is that the fake note Alex has Tessa hold that has dudes number on it says “maybe steal you away from OUR boyfriend” 😂
Hardin is the biggest walking red flag I swear to god- 🚩🚩🚩

So he stole that title from Edward Cullen
At this point I'm pretty convinced that Alex is more mentally resilient than most millennials... Willfully exposing yourself to this so often isn't for the faint of heart.
the song is literally more entertaining than the entire series
Fun fact totally useless fact: the guy who plays Hardin also played young Voldemort in half blood prince and he’s the nephew of Ralph Fiennes. And the girl who plays Tess is the sister of Katherine Langford who played Hannah in 13 reasons why
Are no one gonna talk about the fact that they switch out the actors every movie, except the two main characters lmaoo. Shit got me confused
Did you think someone would stick with this franchise if they had the chance?
Same! I didn't realize Candice King was not playing Kimberly anymore and was wondering who Arielle was supposed to be. Also kept getting confused between Hardin's dad and Vance. If there are 3 more After movies, I don't think I'm gonna be able to keep up with who is who!
@@mercywachira5841 I agree, they even switched up Landon. I had to google the cast to see who played who lmfao
There was apparently like some drama that made some previous actors not be in this one. I can't remember what happened tho.
they need to stop
It sucks that there are teenagers out there watching this and actually thinking that this is what relationships are like
This franchise could be replaced by a whole red flag parade and you wouldn't notice the difference 🤣
Nah, the parade would be entirtaning
Never though Tom Riddle would fall in love with some mudblood.
What a crazy paraller universe we have here.
This guy would make Onision and Christian Grey look like upstanding citizens who treat their girlfriends in a mature, respectable manner
Oh god no. Hardin sucks, but Onision is way worse.
I agree about Christan since he had self-aware that he f*cked up. But Osion is just straight up criminal
@@lunarkinght123 Correction, Movie Hardin just sucks. Book Hardin is just as much a criminal as Onision is in actuality. Like... the dude shared cp.
@@strawberryfox8819 The author needs to be mentally checked for that. I get that you want him to be a morally grey character but that's going WAY too far
@@naziatislam1149 Agreed. The guy's not even grey, he has legit no redeeming qualities. He doesn't even reach the bare minimum on his "good" days.
