Seeing an MLB player pull out a meticulously curated Google Sheet for ranking things is the most "he just like me fr" thing to ever happen to me. Thank you Spencer (& Bailey).
I have been a Braves fan for 20 years. It seems in my eagerness to be hilarious, I made a mistake. I have brought great dishonor upon my family. *jabs katana into stomach*
This content feels like ChatGPT advanced five years overnight and created a hyper-niche, mashup conversation about music I enjoy from two up-and-coming legends from my favorite sport. Glad this happened before the singularity. My Strokes Albums Ranking 1. Is This It (10) 2. Room on Fire (9.9) 3. The New Abnormal (9.4 4. Angles (7.9) 5. First Impressions of Earth (7.4) 6. Comedown Machine (light 7)
Angles is criminally underrated by people who weren't already listening to The Strokes when it released. First Impressions of Earth was great but was not highly distinct in tone from Room On Fire. Angles is where they showed they were sick of "everybody singing the same song for 10 years" and made something that sounded like no one else, including their past selves. You guys mentioned The Voidz but I'd love to hear your thoughts on Julian's and Albert's solo albums as well. I also have a sneaking suspicion that Little Joy is pretty high up on Art's Big Board.
Ok first off FIOE was vastly different than Is This It and Room on Fire, I happen to like it quite a bit as well but not as much as the first two. However it is true that Angles was an even bigger departure from the first 3 albums and after replaying back over some years it has grown on me much more. As far as solo work, Albert Hammond Jr's Yours To Keep and Como se Llama are very very good and Julians Phrazes for the Young is pretty good as well.
Bailey, is there any chance of the sheet being shared? Because I feel that if Spencer shared this with the Indie music community it would be greatly appreciated. View only to the public of course
MORE OF THIS PLEASE!! as a massive baseball fan/indie music head this video made me happier than i ever thought possible. if spencer would be so kind as to share art's rankings for more artists' discographies i would gladly listen.
The baseball content you knew we needed. 12:51 is the time How do we feel about Pavement? (early) Modest Mouse? Silver Jews? Built to Spill? Alex G? Fckn LOVE this. Thanks, Bailey. And Spencer.
Check out You Am I. They organised the strokes to tour with them in Aus before they broke, and kudos to the strokes, they broke just before the tour was to start, and could have reneged and cashed in back at home but still came out and toured. YouAmI still going strong and have some awesome awesome albums
I would have watched a 2 hour version of this. I loved the Metabolism shoutout because I had the exact same experience with it. Was not a fan initially and now it's among my favorites. Angles as a whole is super underrated but I can't fight anybodys rankings because all 6 albums are so damn good and it's very hard to separate them
Bailey, not to worry you but I think you have invited a secret music cultist that has siphoned his baseball powers from indie music. He’s probably in cohorts with Joe DiMaggio who got his powers from billy Joel and Barry Bonds who got his powers from Kanye
Spencer mixes up the Ode to the Mets story. Julian wrote it after the wildcard loss in 2016, not the World Series loss in 2015. Regardless, this is one of my favorite videos I've ever seen, so thank you both.
I swear by Angles. I love that record so much, man. Like they drank some happy juice for half the record, and some sad juice for the last half. Very underrated. EDIT: And boo on both of you for not enjoying Metabolism first listen lol, that song is an absolute crank job.
I didn't wake up thinking that I was going to listen to music critiques by two baseball guys (or as I like to call them, ballers). But I have, and my life is better for it. Thank you, Bailey.
I recently got sent a data analysis test from an MLS team that I'm in the latter interviewing stages of, and I also made a Seinfeld-reference metric called TODD GACK (Team Offense Distribution-Derived Goal Assist Coefficient on Kick)
You both are in my wheelhouse. I LOVE slicing and dicing albums via spreadsheets. I have one that lists what I call my "Album Marathon" which started in March of 2020 (thanks, COVID). I've listened to every single LP I own on my turntable while working from home (almost 1300 hours). And of course there is the yearly ranking of albums which goes back to 2000. I would absolutely love a spin-off podcast of just music talk. Oh, and is Little Joy's S/T the best Strokes side project?
Is This It vs. Room On Fire is like Blue Album vs. Pinkerton. The latter albums are better "albums" but the former albums are just full of hits and highs. It's funny, I give the edge to Room On Fire, but hold Blue Album over Pinkerton. #TrustTheSystem
one of my favorite YT videos in a while. this really brought together my love of baseball and music (especially of The Strokes) in a way I didn’t expect. also this just reminds me that I have very different favorites when it comes to their discog hahaha my order goes: 6) Comedown Machine 5) FIOE 4) Room on Fire 3) Is This It 2) The New Abnormal 1) Angles
16:30 it's actually a colorized bubble chamber reaction (these are devices used to measure neutrino interactions), which I found out by going to a physics lecture and seeing the exact same image uncropped without the context of indie music at all. I was freaking out and no one else in the lecture understood why.
Baseball players talking about The Strokes is literally Christmas day for me. Also it was the 2016 Wild Card Game loss not the 2015 World Series that inspired Ode to the Mets
I love that you guys like the Strokes this much! My list would be: 6. First Impressions of Earth 5. Comedown Machine 4. Angles 3. New Abnormal 2. Is This It 1. Room on Fire
@@namenotfound4043 they really are all #1 honestly! The Strokes are one of my all time favorite bands. It’s not that FIOE is “bad”, it has a couple of my favorite songs. it’s all a matter of preference

I’m not very into car seat headrest either Bailey, but I did completely expect spencer to be, lol. The way you responded to him asking you that is exactly how I respond to people asking me if I’m into them too, lol. Would love to talk to you about post punk someday.
Great vid Bailey. Would love to see the entire Art Vandelay big board. The fact of the matter is Is This It singlehandedly saved rock music in America it can't be anywhere other than number 1.
1. Is This It 2. Room on Fire 3. Angles 4. New Abnormal 5. First Impressions of Earth 6. Comedown Machine I Can’t Win is probably my favorite song by them
It’s not just the album art which is different. Switch “New York City cops” for “when it started” and it’s a totally Different album worth its own ranking (it would be my personal #1)
#1 “Room on Fire” for me. It sounds like an analog recording even though it’s not. Digital recording, as great as it is, doesn’t pick up the space and atmosphere around say a plucked guitar string, or a vibrating drumhead. Little things that dirty up an otherwise pristine sound. For rock music this is needed. When it’s not there, it makes the recording sound sanitized and soulless imo.

More jealous of Braves fans right now as an Astro fan than I was after the 2021 WS ended.
Spencer to Chipper: “You walk out to Crazy Train, I walk out to Little Secrets by Passion Pit. We are not the same.”
Chipper's walk up music was Crazy Train.
You might be the first person to ever get Chipper Jones confused with Mariano Rivera
Woah now. Confusing Mo and Chipper???
