Wow, that poor thing got drop kicked around a few times! I got two of the Heng Long tanks in February and I lover them! Very similar but I can test you the internal construction is a good bit better! I only had on minor thing where the magnet for the IR sensor popped loose and I had to tear it apart and re-glue it into place. Otherwise they are both great. Each was $200 USD and came with the metal drivetrain and metal tracks. I am saving up for one of the full metal tanks from Torro, lots more detail metal chassis, they weigh in between 10-15 pounds!
You have so much patience. I would've been ready to throw it against the wall. You did a great job! It looks great, but it's a definite no for me. Thank you for showing is everything. You did a lot of great work!
I purchased mine from a reputable dealer in Hong Kong. There were none of these issues. Tongde, is a relatively new startup. I think the owner used to work with HengLong. Tongde is making an effort to release tanks like the M60 that no one has done. Looks like someone purchased your tank with a goal of gutting it, messed it up, boxed it up and sent it back. Mine works great and the seller was outstanding to work with. Mine was sent to the states with no breakage.
In my experience you very much get what you pay for with tanks. I had a entry level Heng long and it was awful, I then got a full metal and full option one from Taigen and it was sooo much better. Still my dream would be to one day own one from Armortek 😍
Yes. I have been looking at Armortek tanks. I'd really like the Universal Carrier but those cost nearly £2k just for the kit. I have got some little Tamiya tanks to try and motorise or make rc though. Until I win the lottery.
I have a Heng Long tank, but paid extra for metal tracks and steel gears, and so far, apart from a very small part breaking on assembly, but probably because I was impatient and trying to get it to fit. I’d love a proper tamiya tank but cost cant be justified. However it will be getting some teigen upgrades in the future…. It’s a great base for upgrading.
Had Tamiya tanks. Meh. They are just ok. Not great. I think Heng Long tanks smoke Tamiya tanks at a fraction of the cost. I have 4 so far and have no regrets.
Dang! Gavin, if they sent it to you for review, you should have just sent it back, but nice job on fixing most of it. Now you have documented all that was wrong so the manufacturer can see it. I just think they sent it like that after a customer return or similar, maybe not their intentions to send it in that condition and not damaged during shipping due that the box looked pretty much in one piece. Thank you for the great content sir!
Hi! the interesting thing is , that tognde tk board has 2 servo ports, one for recoil and one for servo elevation, (you can easily slap a servo onto the side of the bb unit, open up the mantlet hole and put a wire linkage to the barrel, i think the barrels are all metal and push fit, there is a video on someones channel to show how its done... 🙂)a pain it was trashed a bit in shipping, but the motor wires were not put in in the factory!. i was looking into one of these, but its just a bit too toy like, but a company called DKLMRC are coming up with a detail up kit for them. i think there will soon be a uk stockist for these, so they will be checked before delivery, and they haven't been used as a rugby ball, but a few thing you had were not built right at at the factory, must have been a Friday!! enjoyed watching your journey 😀 and i love the tamiya stuff, i miss my old falcon.
Oh Man that looked like soome one actually tried to destroy it, I'm glad you took It nicely and were able to fix It, just before you said It I was thinking mmmm i wouldnt Buy It 😅 hope they send you a new one, I would be very mad about all this!!
Good Afternoon! That's sort of what we have to do with shipped Tanks of all cost levels. We have to be Modelers to fix them just so we can enjoy running them. Don't get me started on detailing and upgrading them for realism. :o) Great job on getting this Tank to run and function! ( Never use the BB Shot that ships with these tanks. It's hardly ever completely round. Get a Premium Grade bottle of Airsoft BBs. Your BB cannon will be much happier. ;0)
I want to buy a rc tank but it's a real minefield out there..... I wish there were more brands to choose from because Heng Long seems like the only real option for RTR but I'd love to see more reviews...... sadly I think we've seen more than enough from Tongde! Every major part/feature on the tank you reviewed was damaged/broken. If that was a brand new tank (maybe it was a returned item?) I want nothing to do with Tongde. The interesting part is that the Tongde tank looks exactly the same as the Heng Long tanks with all the same features. I think that might even be the same radio but with a giant Tongde badge on it.
Heng Long is the lowest of the pack. Heng Long (cheap, low-end), then Taigen (above average, very nice) and then Torro (the best, Mercedes). They are pretty much made in the same factory, but quality and options levels is what sets the brands apart. There are tons of tanks RTR to choose from, you just have to look in the right places.
@@goldenmanuever1176 That may be true but as far as I can tell Heng Long is the only one that offers both IR combat and Airsoft bb's in the same tank and I'd prefer both. I'm not sure why the two "better" brands can't offer the same. The biggest difference is the all metal lower haul so I'm trying to figure out if it's worth it because it more than doubles the price of a fully upgraded Heng Long.
If you rotate the turret all the way facing rear seems to work best for me. Sucks you got a beat up tank. Because they are pretty sweet. I have two of the three.
I have bought 2 years ago 2 heng long tanks ( m1 Abram and a challenger II) for very little money. Really impress by these 2. Should check for it, really good price for what it is
Hey there Gav, that was a momentous task you had to sort out so kudos for sticking with it, buuuuut , I think you should have got the Heng long tanks, i have the Sherman tank and just love it to bits, no damage and everything worked out of the box and it has every function that you’re one has, if your one is the Challenger it was definitely a challenge for you to get sorted lol 😝 Niiiiiiiiiiice video Gav
Tanks are fun ! Wish I still had mine. I think there’s an issue with BB firing in Australia mine was permanently disabled 😢and I don’t think you can buy the BB’s still a lot of fun anyway.
Ok, so you fixed it and that's really great... But how was so much wrong to begin with.?! EVERYTHING was wrong with it.!! Excellent fixing it though. 😊
Great job getting it going. I don't know why everyone dumps on heng long. I own 12 and not one issue on any of them. Everything works great. Guess I'm lucky.
It's very similar to the heng long entry level tanks. The electronics suspiciously similar. That is pretty trashed. Because they are plastic they bounce around, when they are fitted with metal parts they drive far more realisticly rather than a racing car when all plastic. Still plenty of fun if you're not worried about that. I've just started building a 1/6 Armortek pretty much like the real thing.
This tank is made by a person who used to work for Heng long looks like they have serious quality issues if not built correctly they can have troubles great when working. Not to hard to work on once you learn.
Finally a M60 tank and it's garbage....never would have left Tamiya like that. The person who assembled it and the QC needs to find a job somewhere else is is reputation damage. Good build recover!
Heng Long are same sort of money, some are actually cheaper depending on spec but they are better quality than this probably because they have been doing it for a while
WOW.. as badly broken as Heng Long tanks often were about 15 years ago... It looks like someone dropped/threw it several meters. Shame, though, that Heng Long doesn't make an M60 yet. PS. Fixing the pivots should be done with a hard epoxy, like Stabilit Express. Clean it, scruff the surface for a bit and stick it together. Epoxy weld meant for metal works too on that nylon-like material. With just glue, it'll snap again if something hits the barrel.
What a mess! Safe to say the manufacturer doesn’t have a quality control process? How can there be that many issues? You should make a bullet list of all the things that were broke and send it to the seller and post it in the comments. Damn.
The damage to that tank can't have just happened in transit. For all those components to be loose and every bullet connector separated, to me, someone has already been in there. I've got a Heng Long Tiger 1, with metal tracks, gearbox and drive sprockets and has most of the features as yours, except the smoke, and cost less than half the price. Glad you did this video, I won't be buying that product.
when i got my M60 it was a flipping mess, broken cables, everything inside loose, several functions would not work and then the suspension started falling apart, so they offered me new plastic suspension arms but i had to pay shipping... i ended up buying the metal tracks/wheels/suspension arms but have already made it very clear that i will never buy a Tong-de tank again, the quality control is a joke, the material strength is way below requirements and you pay premium price for a tank without bearings, plastic gearboxes and basically no customer support unless you want to pay for it.
I think it's a little motor with a fan that flows air across some substance that also has some voltage directed onto it. I'm guessing as I didn't dismantle the unit yet but it looks something like that.
I've never heard of that manufacturer. Heng long are better made, removable 7.2 V stick pack easily upgradable and much more models and colour options in their range..
I bet that kit was handled very poorly during shipping! Also looks like some of the electronics are loosely placed. So during shipping loose parts inside damaged things! Who knows? You fixed it and now super cool! awesome video!

Kudos to you for hanging with it and getting it working Gavin it’s a looker when it’s all put together & running 👍
